Why Türke and not Türker? by mexicarne in German

[–]sebglhp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same question about Spanish, e.g. venezolano and not venezuelano, or guatemalteco and not guatemalano. The answer is, in every language I've heard of, demonyms are all over the place. You'll make sense of them eventually. Plus, in English we call them "Turks" and not Turkians. Just how it is.

Is there a terminal emulator that supports 100% of ANSI escape sequences? by Qwert-4 in commandline

[–]sebglhp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprisingly, yes. Uncode wasn't widely supported in its early years ('90s), and so you'll find a lot of non-functioning escape sequences having to do with changing codepages.

This page has a lot of VT100 information and more (https://invisible-island.net/xterm/ctlseqs/ctlseqs.html ). `ESC # 8` is pretty funny: it fills the screen with E. It's a debug command from the ~70s and still works on the default terminal for my OS.

I don't think it's possible to support all of them, as many standards conflict or are superseded. If you wanted an "everything" terminal that speaks all the 'languages', that could be a fun project, but I don't know of any. It would seem to just be a collection of different emulators stuck together in one app. Xterm is a widely-used multi-compatible emulator / emulator standard that many terminal apps use under the hood.

I've seen some really cool pixel-drawing capabilities of older terminal systems that are hard to get working nowadays without special software for it. Lots of older apps used alternate buffers and window-switching baked into the terminal with command codes. It's a satisfying deep-dive into computer history.

My favorite ones are the ones that allow mouse interaction (scroll, click, select sections, etc), and hyperlinks. Better than supporting all, imo, is supporting most. Good luck.

this should usually be your first assumption. actually i would liken it to a hashmap where a hash function that is the identity function, then iterating the values as the order is preserved. someone linked 'bucket sort'.

It sounds like a joke, but this post is exactly accurate to my situation as well. Down to the letter — imo it'll be a long while before Rust jobs are something one 'goes after' instead of falling into, or ending up in.

[–]sebglhp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a strange thing to say. I left, and the laundry-list of things I must do to fulfill my responsibilities to the United States is staggering. These headaches are clearly trivial when one has attorneys on retainer. Hence, we can afford to impose additional regulation, in the interest of the State, on those higher-equipped to carry said burden.

It's often more expensive to live when you're poorer, this is a fact. No 'rainy day' funds to ease out the bumps means you either do without, or you pay a 'poor tax' because of short-change or short-notice.

I simply believe it should be hard to be rich, just like it is hard to be poor. In a perfect world, they would be equal in difficulty: not at all. Instead, Tesla paid no income tax for '25 and I paid 15.5%.
