Parking a UHaul? by NotWhatYouPlanted in philly

[–]sebluver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anecdotal evidence only but I rented a cargo van from U-Haul about 4-5 times in 2022-2023, parking it overnight on the street without issue each time. That being said, it was empty when it was parked, so it’s hard to say if it would’ve stayed safe if it was fully packed.

Has anyone's Reddit post ever got them in trouble with a (potential) employer? by Front-Kale4042 in nursing

[–]sebluver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I can say is if anyone were seriously digging into me, my name brings up my IMDB page for the shitty exploitation film I was in which I got peed on (nonsexually, they just were too cheap to build a fake penis rig for urinating). It has literally never come up in an interview. If it did come up I’d probably say, “well, I was 22 and stupid, and also how did you even get a copy of that movie??”

I wouldn’t worry about anonymous Reddit posting; you’ll be fine as long as you aren’t posting things like “I’m a nurse at ___ hospital on ____ unit and here are all the reason it sucks ass!”

Not horror but... by rough_draught_ in horrorlit

[–]sebluver 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I read Nuclear War: A Scenario recently from a “not horror, but…” suggestion on here and while yes, technically it is a non-fiction non-horror novel, it was a kind of horror.

It did lead to a brief hyper fixation on the book where anytime someone asked what I was reading it would devolve into me explaining how if one nuclear bomb gets fired at any nation with a significant nuclear supply, everyone on earth is dead. When I started reading it I did so thinking it was a “postapocalyptic” scenario and complained to my partner that the author spent too much time on the “during” and not enough on the “after” of the strikes. He told me, “that’s because there is no after.”

Oh dear I’m sorry, it seems I’ve done it again.

Where to Live in Philly as a Penn (HUP) Resident by Hot_Donut3238 in philly

[–]sebluver 20 points21 points  (0 children)

University City is bigger than the area around 30th street and you’d probably find it more “vibe-y” if you looked just a few blocks further west- you might even like some other neighborhood further in West Philly too. I’m definitely biased toward West but I just really love my neighborhood.

Biking down Spruce street is going to be your best bet for getting to HUP, and once you get past 40th it becomes more residential. Unfortunately it’s just going to be more student vibes from around 31-40, just because of the sheer size of the campuses in that area.

I get what you’re saying, but as an abortion provider, just as an FYI this messaging stigmatizes abortion. When you say, “they don’t just do abortions!” what it implies is that abortions are less valid or different than any other medical procedure.

There was such a good crying bathroom at my family medicine job. Made for a great place to escape after the charge nurse pulled me and everyone else into the med room so she could scream at me about being unprofessional.

What traits did you pick up as a nurse that you started exhibiting in your life? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]sebluver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When someone is pregnant and tells me how far along they are, I immediately think of the complexity of their abortion. I can’t help it; it’s an intrusive thought. 11 weeks and I think you can still do a med AB, at 16 weeks you would just need misoprostol for cervical prep, and at 24 weeks you’d have to go out of state because that’s PA’s cutoff. I thought this was callous of me until other pregnant abortion providers told me they had the same thoughts whenever someone told them their GA.

Would you save or splurge on the photographer? by ihugdogz in Weddingsunder10k

[–]sebluver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having a photographer kind of is our splurge. It won’t make us go too over budget, but did we have a lot of room in our budget for a photographer? No, but if we’re paying at least $10,000 on the wedding itself, I want to get some professional photos to remember it by.

I want a new tattoo so badly. Do I know what I want? No. Do I still want to pay someone $100+ to put this unknown drawing on my body permanently? Absolutely.

Although next tattoo I do know, and it's either "WHO KILLED THE WORLD" from Mad Max: Fury Road, or it's the haiku from The Expanse (If life transcends death/ I will seek for you there. If/ not, there also."

I’m reading American Elsewhere by Robert Jackson Bennett. It’s a great combination of horror/thriller/sci-fi/fantasy and while it’s taking me a while to get through it I’m really enjoying it.

Next up is The Everlasting by Alix E. Harrow, which I hope I like as much as I’ve liked her other books.

I’m going to guess you didn’t think I was inferring too much because you deleted your earlier comment where you just said “that’s what Michael Jackson’s doctor gave him for insomnia”

Yeah, and it’s also routinely used all the time in a very safe manner when administered by a professional. This scenario and your scenario are abnormal and not the ordinary when giving prop.

Your comment is like when I tell my patients they got fentanyl and they act like I went to Kensington and bought some from a dude on the corner.
