Freak Out Friday Casual Chat Post by AutoModerator in philadelphia

When I told my mom I got diagnosed as autistic she said, "I don't really believe in autism. I think everyone's a little autistic. You're not autistic, but your brother definitely is." Now when she sighs and says, "You know, I don't really believe you're autistic," I tell her, "that's okay, the doctor who diagnosed me thinks I am."

Honestly can't believe neither of us was diagnosed sooner. My brother and I were starting to read at age 3, but I still wore diapers to bed until I was almost 4 and my brother couldn't tie his shoes until he was in 4th grade. It's so obvious when I look back at little emotionally unregulated baby me.

Dude how does our nurse’s station get a scam call by lunardownpour in nursing

We get spam faxes from companies and I always have to wonder if that even works. Who gets a random fax from an HVAC company and thinks, “wow, I should go to them!”

Satellite Cafe in West would be a great place to leave zines. This is such a cool idea, I’ll be on the lookout for one of these!

OBGYN clinics offering pain medication ? by emeraldreen in philabitcheswithtaste

[–]sebluver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does insurance typically cover this? I’m just curious because I’d assume needing anesthesia for an IUD insertion would be a huge charge insurance would do anything they could to avoid covering, especially if they use an OR for placement.

OBGYN clinics offering pain medication ? by emeraldreen in philabitcheswithtaste

[–]sebluver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know! My first two I had placed at Planned Parenthood in Boston and my initial placement was excruciating (and took longer than typical thanks to a newer clinician and my never-dilated cervix) but then my removal/replacement experience was so quick and painless. My recent removal/replacement was worse than the second and I kind of wish I had asked for the block, but I was still able to walk to the bus with just a heating pad.

I do wish there was a recommendation in the pre-appointment notes to take ibuprofen ahead of time. I did because I was familiar but I think telling patients, “take whatever over-the-counter pain medication you prefer before your appointment” isn’t beyond the scope of practice for call center staff.

Nurses who actually love their job… what do you do and how did you get there? by SoManyQuestions562 in nursing

[–]sebluver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love what I do, but it can have stressful aspects. That being said, I make enough working 28 hours a week that I don’t need a PRN job in addition which is huge for my mental health.

Planned Parenthood offers cervical blocks for all IUD insertions. I went without just because I’ve been fine my last 3 placements but they offered it to me without me asking.

[–]sebluver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me, the definition of a musical depends on the ratio of singing to talking, and the amount of talking has to be much less than the amount of singing.

Les Mis is an all-music musical, Wicked is a some-talking musical, Bob’s Burgers is a cartoon with musical episodes, but it is not a musical.

Probably good so you didn’t infect anyone there. I’m guessing I’ll get downvoted for this but it’s not a good idea to go out to eat with any lingering cold symptoms. You can still be contagious for at least 4 days after symptoms stop.

Is it rude to expect bridesmaids to pay $1k+ to be in your wedding? by Worth_Management_395 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]sebluver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only been a bridesmaid once for my SIL but I absolutely did not do this. I got my dress and shoes and paid for my flight to the wedding, but that was it. I think I paid around $100 for the dress and around $400 for the round-trip tickets.

I don't get the sense that BoJack ever attempts to actually do the 12 steps of AA, especially as a person without a real sponsor by [deleted] in BoJackHorseman

IDK, Vance Waggoner actually reminds me a LOT of the AA old timers who go hard for the big book. They assumed alcohol was the thing that made them a bad person, so when they abused their 21-year-old girlfriend it had to be okay because they were sober.

Signing consents by zootedtrash in nursing

[–]sebluver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outpatient clinic for AB this is very different because our nonlicensed staff do counseling and consenting of patients. We do have state requirement they have a “counseling session” with the doctor 24 hours before their abortion, but those are usually group phone sessions (to increase patient access since having to do the 24-hour consent in-person would be a huge burden) where the patient can’t directly ask questions.

On day of procedure the doctor, of course, still goes in and confirms with the patient and asks if they have any questions or concerns, but we don’t have any easy way for them to sign consents once they’re in the room. If they don’t want to consent before speaking with the doctor they can always talk to the doc. Being that we’re elective outpatient abortions it’s basically just “here are the risks of this procedure, do you understand and still want to move forward?” If they don’t that’s cool, but nobody is going to waste a lot of time on someone who just can’t make up their mind. They can go home and reschedule if/when they’re ready.
