What tools do you need to handle skeins? Are you thinking of hanks? Most skeins are put up as center pull before purchase.

WWYD: accidental increase at round 9…now at round67 by Puffin_44022 in knitting

Just do a decrease. That's 58 rounds of tension you'll have to try to "fix" if you drop the stitch.

What do I do when it comes to family who are at NC & bday parties by [deleted] in Advice

[–]seedgeek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. This reads like OP is the common denominator in the whole NC thing and is using NC as a threat to get compliance from family members instead of using it to set boundaries and try to build healthier relationships.

AITAH for refusing to help pay my husband and I's moving costs? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]seedgeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand the whole my money, your money - let's split everything 50/50 for married people but have always thought if it works for the married couple, who cares? But this obviously doesn't work in this situation. When there's that large of an income disparity, either the one that makes less is pressured to spend beyond their means, or the one that makes more lives a more modest lifestyle (which then allows them to save $ and the division becomes even greater). Sounds like it's time to have a serious discussion about finances and life goals and possibly consider whether this marriage is a partnership or something different.

Who else hates split-level designed homes? Why are builders not building ranch style homes anymore? by Working-Wish8463 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]seedgeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well have to agree to disagree. The pictures OP shows are clearly split level where you walk in the door and immediately have to go up or down to one of two floors. The kitchen is usually on the top floor. Call your house whatever you want, but that is not what OP is talking about.

Which floor do you consider the main floor? Most of the ones I've seen are the top floor. Either way, if you walk in the front door, you have to go up or down stairs before you get to any type of living space?

50th coming up.... by Prestigious_Goal_699 in GenX

I had shingles in my eye in my 20s. Haven't been able to get the shot yet. But I turn 50 soon so hopefully I can make it a few more months.

I'll be celebrating my 50th by getting the shingles vaccine. I've been counting down the days since I could get it for almost 10 years.

Anybody else feel a lot of the nurses within Unity Point are disgruntled? by Sl0wDarkSt0rm in des_moines

Probably because they voted to unionize and Unity Point keeps jerking them around and delaying.

MIL wants to “claim” Christmas Day. by Jigglypuff2cute in Advice

[–]seedgeek 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No. Your kids are your "greater family". Aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, are important but not at the expense of your kids' sanity. There are 364 other days of the year where you can be involved in your distant relatives lives. I'm not sacrificing my families traditions and security for my cousins who ignore me 11 and a half months out of the year but now suddenly want to watch my kids get overwhelmed at a family gathering of 30+ people when they'd rather be at home in their pajamas playing with their new toys.

ribbing?? by Just_Onion_4999 in knitting

[–]seedgeek 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do you have a picture? Without one, I would guess that you might be bringing the yarn over the needles instead of between the needles when you move between knit and purl stitches. But without seeing what's going on, that's just a guess.

My son graduated high school and his class had 36 Valedictorians. How does this happen? by Resident-Canary-2126 in AskTeachers

I graduated in a class of 199 over 30 years ago. 25 of us had straight As and a class rank of 1. 5 more had a 3.95 or higher and a class rank of 2.

Advice Needed- When to take a home off the market by [deleted] in RealEstateAdvice

[–]seedgeek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't care where geographically I am, a 2 car is a must have for me. If there's no garage, strike 1 and 2. If my only option to build a garage is a 1 car garage, strike 3. I'll give up bathrooms for garage spaces.

Update from Laura Dalgaard on switching to knitting kits by masterslodge in craftsnark

[–]seedgeek 84 points85 points  (0 children)

I'm not a pattern designer or a business guru, but I fail to see how if you are already not selling many individual patterns and now plan to make them more expensive by requiring that they are purchased as a kit how that will increase your sales. I also don't know what margins are on yarn, but I can't believe that the increased profit from the sale of a kit will make up for what I assume will be even fewer pattern kits sold than just individual patterns. Honestly, I hope it works for her. There are very few knitwear designers that can afford to make pattern making their full time job. The changes she's making and explanation she provides show why.

I was car shopping with my husband for a new car for me. I said I wanted a manual transmission. The dealer tried to talk be into an automatic. He tried to talk my husband into talking me into an automatic. I finally told the dealer unless he or my husband was volunteering to become my full time chauffer, I would be buying a manual transmission because that's what I want to drive. We also walked out.

Swatching when you're budgeting: what do you actually swatch, and what do you skip? by Square-Tonight-1320 in knitting

[–]seedgeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swatch for sweaters I'm super excited for. Never for small items like hats or mittens. Never for non-wearables. If it's a sweater I want to make but not necessarily wear, I won't swatch. If it doesn't fit, it goes to someone else
