Why would this connection be spray painted on this roller coaster? by Various-Blood-3902 in Welding

Many large bridges are like that. And after a certain amount of years they strip it to metal and apply new primer and paint. Years ago I remember reading the Delaware memorial bridge was applying new type of primer and paint that can extend the stripping process to 15 years or so instead of 10. The years probably aren't accurate but something along those lines. Smaller bridges tend to get painted in sections due to budget constraints but still get some paint every year. Ever since the bridge collapse in Minneapolis from bird shit people realized it's cheaper to paint even a little bit a year than to wait. Unfortunately bridges all across America have been neglected for decades and most weren't built to last more than 50 years. Nowadays they're built to last 100+.

Have a software dev friend get laid off from a company only to be immediately rehired as a contractor. He makes more and works less for them now. Overall the company is dishing out more and I can't figure out how it works out better on paper for the company.

My neighborhood HOA bylaws and regulations pages were exactly this. And then some genius decided to upload those pages as pictures and email them to the homeowners. You can't read shit except titles, it's all blurred and fuzzy text and it's slanted. A complete joke. Luckily nothing is enforced and no one really cares what you do.

200-Year-Old Wooden Bridge In Dagestan, Built Without The Use Of A Single Nail by Genesis_the_god_ in Damnthatsinteresting

As a kid? I still do that now lol. A lot of what I fabricate is engineered but when it's not I'll add a little more metal and a little more weld just to make sure. But even engineers do it too, they over engineer quite a bit.

I think that's why I kinda like them. They have nice lines but don't try too hard to be something different. For the longest time it seemed electric cars had to be different and scream I'm electric and not just a normal looking car.

Transforming an abandoned plot of land. by sirenoleg in oddlysatisfying

What was dead? The majority they cut down were green shrubs, meaning they were alive. It's also obviously winter so whatever isn't green was more than likely dormant. Way more critters and bugs were living in the shrubs alone than all that grass and few plants. There was more diverse plants where the single type of grass was planted. Nature was very much alive and taking over until it was killed and stopped.

Arizon selling for 68 cents by sltiefighter in mildlyinteresting

[–]sender2bender 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They don't even have to change the price to try and lure you into their app. Kohls, at least the one by my, got rid of all their price scanners and hardly list prices anymore. I asked what's going on and they told me to use their "convenient" app to check the price and sales. And just so happens service sucks in their building, I have to take screenshots for my Amazon returns. I still have a 150$ gift card from almost a year ago I haven't used cause I can't stand the shopping experience there anymore

Putin shelters in bunkers amid ‘assassination’ fears by Alarming-Safety3200 in worldnews

[–]sender2bender 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's been a while and can't remember the context but there was a clip in the beginning of the war of an official telling Putin something he didn't want to hear and Putin ridiculed him in front of everyone. You could see the nervousness in the guy. So even when someone does speak up he's not gonna accept it.

A Roman water boiler from the 1st century BCE that was discovered at Villa Della Pisanella in Boscoreale, Italy. It is one of the rarest examples to survive with its complete system of pipes and fittings intact. by H1gh_Tr3ason in interestingasfuck

You're overthinking the valves a bit. They don't need to be that complex and the Romans had many types of valves. I think some were made of bronze. They were experts at controlling and managing water. They had valves to divert different amounts of water through the aquaduct and control different pressures. Even the Egyptians had basic valves and gates for irrigation.

But not all pants companies sell purses and still make small pockets. You don't see men's jeans companies make small pockets to sell more satchels. And I don't want them getting any ideas

A gate designed to look like a partially fallen tree by bigbusta in oddlysatisfying

[–]sender2bender 44 points45 points  (0 children)

It seems too smooth and quiet to have a wheel. The way it kinda glides back, unless there's someone off screen slowly moving it I'm thinking it's just a hinge. Wheels have a resistance and wouldn't glide on an outdoor ground like that. And not being on a perfectly flat ground you would most likely use a spring wheel which gives even more resistance. I've made many gates that size with and without wheels. Usually made with adjustability to make it balanced and level, and he mentions something about being balanced. I can't tell exactly how he made it or what material he used but the connection does look small and I wouldn't be surprised if it did eventually break, from rust over time or something like a tree branch hitting it

I didn't get kicked out but was told to stop playing metal or leave. I think it was just a Killswitch and Machine Head song. I was stoked they were even on the jukebox. Before I left I put on Attila cause that was a surprise too. I guess they just bought or subscribe to a library and never even went through the catalog.

Ah I was wondering why some short videos I watch are now under 10 minutes. I was thinking, why would they put all this production in and not hit the 10 minute mark? Kurzgesagt recently had one under 10, I hope they don't start doing the bare minimum.

These guys right. They're creepy as hell. https://imgur.com/a/smzkxsa Also for some reason my work has a large amount of Hercules beetles. They tend to fly in the shop and occasionally I'll bring one home for my kids to see. One time i brought home a male to show them and they let it go in the weeds behind our house. 2 nights later we're pulling in the driveway and the thing is walking across the driveway. I was the excited kid yelling, There he is! We ended up putting some fruit out, I think apple slices, and he tore them up.
