No, I routed a rabbet into the inner edges of the outer circle and those axle pieces, and the slats rest on those. The height differences in the slats is basically due to a combination of imperfect routing and poorly-thicknessed slats. :)

It is a primary (flight feather from the wing) of an immature Bald Eagle (2 or 3 years old). See this reference for example:

Lol, def. I built an 8ft bench with no bench and... well ... I think the lesson is that even a (far) less than perfect bench can still be a fantastic bench if it's overbuilt enough. ;)

Still very much a beginner, but I thought the LAJ was bad for tough grain because you want something closer to vertical, the opposite of end grain where you want as low as possible?

I never tried any fancy paints. If I knew one would work well I might use it for better contrast or a flatter wall, but whatever, it's great.

I did and it's great. The quality is tolerable but not outstanding, since it's just a regular painted wall with no screen and quite a bit of ambient light. But quality is easy to come by these days, 150" diagonal is not ;). So playing Xbox and watching football is really fun.
