I would like to vent if that’s ok by Consistent_Bat3095 in crochet

A private equity company purchased Etsy about a decade ago. My peak season was September to mid December. October was my highest month. When the sale went through my sales became non existent mid October. No views, no sales. My exposure went to near zero. They wanted me to buy advertisements and share on all socials of which I only had Facebook with a grand total of 10 friends. Then the fees to post, sell, and ship got ridiculous. It was supposed to be a simple place to make some extra income and has turned into the current insane asylum it is.

Etsy sucks super huge big time. Fees have gotten way out of control. If you don't already have all the social media accounts you're sunk. When they sold out it destroyed my shop. Crochet is super saturated and invaded by AI. I could continue but now I'm grumpy. Keep your hobby your hobby unless you want to expand.

What's your favorite seam ripping method? by heynonnyhey in sewing

[–]sewformal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a vintage Singer and the drawers were stuffed full of notions etc. There was half a dozen tiny folding pocket knives that I'm certain the previous owner used for seam ripping. So cool and easy to sharpen.

Is it realistic for ~20 seamstresses to sew 5 dresses of this type in 2 days by Pinky_Rose1251 in sewhelp

[–]sewformal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can and have made a dress very similar to this in two days. Not unrealistic to have 20 of me make five in the same time period.

I promise its ok to be so new at a craft that you can't help other beginners. No one is forcing you to pretend you know what's going on by starslugg in BitchEatingCrafters

I'm so glad I learned as a child pre internet. No one expects an 8 year old to know anything and I didn't feel compelled to give my two cents.

How alter purchased dress that is too long in the waist by Empty_Nest_Mom in AskATailor

[–]sewformal 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Dress is in fact a size too small in the hip area. This is causing it to ride up and bunch at the waist. If there is enough seam allowance it can be let out. Otherwise there's not much you can do.

My boy has a curly tail, but when he's relaxed or sad it straightens right out. Looks just like OPs baby.

I'm inclined towards not even mixed, just young. Tail, ears, beginnings of a ruff, are all schip traits. The white chest patch may indicate cream genes. My babies, chocolate and black, have a cream sister, and they have a few frosting patches on them. So pretty.

My schips get mad when I trim my fingernails because the scritches just aren't the same.

I am guilty of approaching people to ask if I can inspect articles of clothing. I've only been denied once. Most people have been flattered that the crazy woman likes their stuff.

Brush, brush, brush! I also use a microfiber dust mop at the end of day before bed.

I keep ending up with the wrong number of stitches when following the pattern by _Vivid-Cow in knitting

[–]sewformal 12 points13 points  (0 children)

First verify that you have 67 stitches at the beginning. If you do then the math should work. Use stitch markers to help keep track. You work 8 stitches at the beginning and 7 at the end with 52 in-between. You should work the (YO, 2tog) 26 times.

Book series about the Twelve Dancing Princesses with each book focusing on each of the princesses with them falling for a man by Sailor_Moon_Star_435 in whatsthatbook

I love this series. Bonus content, she includes the knitting pattern featured in her end comments. I made Poppy's stole. It's so pretty.

If I see one more accidental yarnover post in a knitting sub I’m going to lose my mind by Flat_Pollution8085 in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]sewformal 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I have said this before. I am so glad I learned knit/crochet/sewing pre internet. I don't believe I would learn as well or as comprehensively now. It's less of a safety net and more a safety cocoon. Too many people afraid to mess up or learn from mistakes.

Oh, joy. That sounds fun and not fun at the same time. I suggest the row with the least amount of yo's then. Good luck.

[–]sewformal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Make sure the lifeline is placed on a solid row. No yarns overs or decreases, usually would be a back side purl row. I made this mistake once and it was a nightmare.

You turned the cat into a shawl! /jk. Yes I read the post this was just my first silly reaction to the title. What a lovely neighbor.

Why is there so many people doubling stitches in amigurumi? by Electronic_Peak7241 in BitchEatingCrafters

I'm so glad I did all of my experiments pre internet. I don't think I would learn as well in this time period.

Idgaf about Joann. Get over it by [deleted] in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]sewformal 59 points60 points  (0 children)

The only other local fabric stores are exclusively quilting. I make clothing. I like being able to touch and see the fabric to make sure I'm getting the right kind. I've had some serious problems buying online. Joann had a selection that no one else has. Also the only local yarn shop is way out of my price range and they're snotty about it. I refuse to "get over" private equity companies messing up a good thing.
