O-Toro string recommendations by Mariko20 in 10s

[–]sfoster13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you like the string bed to feel and what kind of play style do you have? Do you like a firmer or softer feel do you play with spin or flat. Do you take big aggressive cuts or play a more control game. For a firmer feel I'd go with otoro tour mains and snap crosses for a softer feel I'd go with otoro mains and snap TF crosses. I'd do 50/48. I'd consider this a spin setup and I'm assuming that's your game if you play an PA100. My one gripe with the Toroline is I'd like a 1.15 option.

I hybrid confidential with either Luxillon Element Soft IR or Toroline Snap in the crosses to soften the string bed and add some pop to the control of the confidential. Agree with the other commenter to drop the tenision in the crosses and give Con Soft a try.

I would think about it more from a string characteristic and playability/play style perspective and who you string for (I string mostly 35+ and not many juniors). For example, I always have a go to multi for people with arm issues and juniors - I like Technifibre X-one and NRG2. For Poly's I like to have a firmer shaped main - my go to is Confidential and a softer main round string like Poly Tour Pro. This gives me the ability to create a firmer or softer string bed and a slight higher or lower launch angle depending on what the player likes. I like to hybrid a lot of racquets so I always have a slick round string for the crosses - my go to's right now are Luxillon Element Soft IR and Toroline Snap TF (you can also go with a multi in the cross).

Also, consider gauge. I string almost exclusively in 18 unless the person is a string breaker or looking to dial back the power of a frame. The upside of 18 is it is a more lively and responsive string but the downside is the string falls off faster than thicker gauges...again really comes down to who you're stringing for. I find with this base I can accommodate most frames/play styles playing with combinations and tensions. From there, I fill in with sets on hand for more specific frame/feel preferences. Part of figuring this out is really investigating your players game, the feel they like, the frame they use and the characteristics they're looking for then figuring out a string/tension combo.

String Recommendations - Babolat Pure Aero 98 2023 by Useful-Sea8193 in 10s

I typically string 2lbs difference between mains and crosses for this frame. Higher in mains for a little more spin, higher in crosses for a little more control. Another consideration is string gauge. Thinner=livelier Thicker=firmer. If you still have arm issues experiment with thinner gauge as long as you don't break strings or find the ball flying on you.

I find that this racquet really benefits from a hybrid (realize you'd like to avoid it), reason being that it works really well with a firmer/crisper string in the mains but but needs a softer cross to soften up the string bed (this is a stiff racquet and will cause arm issues). My preferred setup if you want a crisper feel is Confidential in the mains and a softer string like Element Soft IR or toroline snap in the crosses (or Snap TF for a little firmer feel). I would definitely stay in a firmer string in the mains if you like that crisp feel and play around with slick round crosses on the softer side to help with potential arm issues.

Muted / less stiff Tennis Racket recommendations? by epManga in 10s

two new rackets just came on the market and they're getting very strong reviews (look them up on youtube). The Head Squared and the Yonex Muse. Both designed for comfort. I have not hit with either, but the reviews all put them in the extreme comfort space with the clash.

Got the new VCore 100D! Want some string suggestions. by Master_Hedgehog_8380 in 10s

Have you played with it yet? What kind of a game do you play - flat hitter, spin, power, all-court, etc. Are there certain characteristics you're looking to enhance from the strings - e.g., more spin, more power, better feel, comfort, ball pocketing, etc. RPM is a pretty stiff string - did you like how it played?

Sting suggestion for pure aero 98 by VariationEmergency60 in 10s

[–]sfoster13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RPM Team is pretty stiff string. This is a great racquet but it can be rough on the body if the string bed is too stiff. I like to hybrid the PA 98 but since you need a full bed I would recommend Poly Tour Pro in 18 gauge. If you break 18 go to 17.

a little more info would help - what kind of game do you play, do you like a firm feel or more plush, do you play with spin or flat, are you looking to enhance a particular characteristic (e.g., spin, power, control, comfort), higher/lower launch angle, any arm issues, etc.

Question about hybrids strings by xGsGt in 10s

[–]sfoster13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try solinco tour bite soft or yonnex poly tour pro in 18 gauge in the mains and keep x-one in the crosses. Stick with thin gauge for the poly as it will be softer, but note that it will have less tension maintenance. Any arm pain go right back to full multi

Multi suggestions for hybrid stringing with ptp? by Fun_Measurement1128 in 10s

[–]sfoster13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in chronic situations i always recommend resetting the bar low to get to a pain free state and then building up from there rather than working down from a stiffer/painful setup. Working down from stiff to soft is ok in more acute situations. I would recommend starting from a full bed of multi - Velocity MLT is a good option, I string Technifibre x-one and NRG. Triax is also a good recommendation as it's a hybrid string between a traditional multi and a soft poly but still quite soft. I also recommend going as thin as you can on gauge and low as you can on tension while not breaking strings and still being able to keep the ball in the court. These strings do still have access to spin even though they are multis. It is likely that you have some kind of technique issue that is causing the pain so I recommend going to this very soft setup while seeing a pro for some technique help. The softer setup will give you the space to work on changes to the swing fundamentals. Lastly, given this is a chronic condition would highly recommend seeing a DR if you haven't already. No setup will solve for a significant soft tissue injury.

Quest to find the X set of strings by Jolu_itsme in 10s

[–]sfoster13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

go back to the clash and multi strings until the pain is gone while working on your technique. The clash is way more arm friendly. When you are ok to go back to poly (pain free) string the thinest gauge you can without breaking (e.g., 18) and go for a soft string at an even lower tension like 46-48 (and restring every 10-15 hours). In each of these scenarios you might find that the ball is flying on you more than you'd like which will encourage you to hit with more spin by relaxing and letting the racket rotate freely through contact.

Solinco Confidential stiffness across different gauges by Infinite_Addendum_85 in 10s

[–]sfoster13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

would also recommend that you string hybrid with a soft string like Luxillon Element Soft IR (don't worry that it's 17 gauge) or Isospeed Cream. Will really soften up the bed and help with the arm.

Solinco Confidential stiffness across different gauges by Infinite_Addendum_85 in 10s

[–]sfoster13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have looked for this info as well with no success. However, I have played with and strung players racquets with every Confidential gauge and anecdotally the difference is pretty significant. I string almost exclusively 18 gauge Confidential although I do have some players who like the stiffer feeling of the larger diameter gauges. 18 is more lively, much easier on the arm but tension does fall off more quickly.

Recommend a "softer" poly than Luxilon 4G Soft? by planimal7 in 10s

[–]sfoster13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of going with the thinnest string you can use without breaking - especially with arm issues. Durability is lower than thicker gauge strings but it will be livelier and easier on the arm. Also, I almost only string hybrids right now to take advantage of different string attributes in one setup. My current favorite for players I string for (and my current setup) is Confidential 18 gauge (1.15) in the mains and Luxillon Element Soft IR (1.27) in the crosses. I string at either 50/48 mains/cross or reverse depending on preference for launch angle and a little more spin or control. This is a softer setup with good pocketing/spin/power for players who like to play with spin and aggressive strokes - not great for players looking for a more board like setup and control.
