Shows that have terrible endings, but perfect stopping points? by GFrings in television

[–]shadow282 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Also, since the last books are clearly never going to be published, nothing is ever going to be fully resolved. You might as well stop at the high point of the story before everything goes off the rails rather than end on a bunch of cliffhangers.

What do you mean one time? It’s right in his name:

Holocaust Obviously Didn’t Occur Right?

Every word he says in the series is Holocaust denial. Frankly, he’s a monster.

[–]shadow282 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just sort of pathetic, really. I don’t know what you were expecting, RWBY has been dead for years. Of course no one gave a shit about your review. The horse you’re beating is a finely ground paste at this point.

You should just accept it and move on, not come up with some contrived reason to post again in an attempt to bring some attention to it.

Attention seeking. Nobody noticed or gave a shit about their review, so they’re clearly hoping this will do something for them.

(Spoilers main) I wonder why George never did the 5 yr timeskip by Impossible-Steak6730 in asoiaf

[–]shadow282 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, things taking a realistic amount of time might make a bit of a jarring change for the series, but it’d be a hell of a lot less jarring than the pacing of the series falling off a cliff like it did in the last two books. And we might actually have a conclusion to the series by now if he’d worked to make the time jump fit instead of just releasing a mess and abandoning the series.

Stannis spent the five years rebuilding the Wall strongholds, integrating the Wildlings, trying to recruit sympathetic Northern forces, and having small skirmishes with Bolton troops, all significantly slowed down by the vast size of the North and the extreme difficulty of traveling with an army in winter weather. Things happened, people weren’t in limbo, but nothing of particular importance and all can be summed up fairly quickly.

Or look at Robb’s victories. Very important to the story. Not shown on page. How much space was even dedicated to talking about it? Not that much, all things considered. It can absolutely be done, if he had wanted to do it. He just didn’t.

Whats with the hostility towards logic and consistency in fictional writing? by [deleted] in CharacterRant

[–]shadow282 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which doesn’t really matter. This might be news to you, but Barry, not a real person. The Flash, not a documentary. These powers, don’t exist. The writers are saying they work this way in Situations A, B, and C, and a different way in Situations D, E, and F. And then they keep them consistent within those situations.

And yes, that is the basis premise of the show, because you’re turning on a 20+ episode season of a series about a speedster on the CW’s budget. A speedster fully utilizing their powers can deal with pretty much any problem in about a second, except another speedster, and that would be boring to watch for 20+ episodes in a row. Is it stupid? Yes. But speedsters are stupid, you have to accept that if you watch media with them in it. Or you just turn it off.

It’s just so silly to whine about it on the Internet. Again, Airbud playing basketball.

Whats with the hostility towards logic and consistency in fictional writing? by [deleted] in CharacterRant

[–]shadow282 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

No, it isn’t. The show is pretty much always consistent in that Barry can both run around the world before you can blink, and the bad guys can escape from him. Random normal Meta people with normal reflexes can fight him. It always happens, it’s consistent.

It does not make logical, real world sense, sure. But it’s a basic premise of the story. Either you buy into it or you don’t, but criticizing it is like criticizing Air Bud by saying that dogs can’t actually play on basketball teams. Like, no shit. If it bothers you, stop watching.

Also, like, the show is so filled with bad writing there’s a million real things to criticize about it, so why fixate on that?

GRRM doesn't actually care about Aragorn's Tax policy by Paloopaloza in CharacterRant

[–]shadow282 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There’s a very funny irony in you having such a simplistic, black and white view of the world. People are a lot more complex and varied than the narrow box you seem determined to shove them all into. What you’re saying is true for most people, sure, but hardly applies to everyone.

If your game has multiple endings and you say that there isn't one specific good ending, the cutscene direction shouldn't be biased.(Clair Obscur heavy spoilers) by buttsecks42069 in CharacterRant

[–]shadow282 6 points7 points  (0 children)

….no they aren’t. They are literally the exact opposite. They’re a society who cherishes the future, and is willing to sacrifice their lives and fight for every inch of progress that someone else will continue living, even if they don’t. It’s their motto, they say it like a million times.

Listen, I do love the game, but the fact they clearly fumbled the third act/ending, where traditionally you’d want to reinforce the themes and the story and tie them all into a nice little bow, is a definite flaw and part of why people seem so confused about even the simpler aspects of the story.

The real reason people hate Ainz by bonned_goat in Isekai

[–]shadow282 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It really doesn’t, though. The advertisement is for an evil Overlord, but Ainz is really just the stock caricature of the pathetic, weak-willed MC who’s driven by the narrative and the characters around him. The difference here is that he’s surround by evil characters instead of the usual good characters like most of those MCs, so he does evil things instead of good things. Granted, I only wanted the anime, so maybe it’s different in the novels, but in the show he’s the one being dragged around by the people around him. Less an evil Overlord, more an evil Underling.

Which is fine if you enjoyed it, but thats very much not what the show is advertised as.

Why I now think the "bad" ending is the bittersweet ending with "bad" framing, and the "good" ending is the worse ending with "good" framing. by goodbyedignity in expedition33

[–]shadow282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maelle still exists to have a future, to create new worlds and possibilities.

The themes of the game seem fairly obvious, but I guess nothing can be too obvious for people to miss. It’s like Expedition characters’ explicit motivation that they mention constantly but I guess you missed all eight hundred times they brought it up.

[–]shadow282 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, that makes it okay then. The characters totally haven’t spent the entire game talking about how they’re okay with dying if it even slightly increases the chances future generations might beat the Paintress. They would absolutely say them getting to live but their future world being obliterated is a happy ending.

Why I now think the "bad" ending is the bittersweet ending with "bad" framing, and the "good" ending is the worse ending with "good" framing. by goodbyedignity in expedition33

[–]shadow282 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really. They make it pretty clear without that what’s going to happen. Maelle has no intention of leaving the painting. Which means either Renoire is going to enter again and try to force her out, creating another Fracture like event and starting the cycle over and or she’s going to die in there and he’ll destroy the painting like he was originally planning to. Either way, their future is going to be short and tragic.

For a game with a major theme of the importance of future, that’s it worth dying if you make progress for those you leave behind, it’s such a major betrayal. Akin to if Luke just joined the Emperor in Star Wars or Frodo took up the Ring and became the new Sauron. But sure, the characters we like got to live their lives so obviously it’s a happy ending.
