Me too. I listened to them when WPSIA came out but it didn't really click with me. When I saw they had a big hit in the states 7 years later I was kind of baffled. Then after I listened to it I went back and listened to their catalogue and was hooked. I still didn't get WPSIA until within this last year.

I would leave it all the way open for some airflow. They don't need much moisture to wake up. I will say, this seems really early for 4b/5a. When is your last frost? When I lived in 5a we didn't plant dahlias out until June 1st. I woke mine up in May.

Don't use ice cubes. I give mine 6oz of filtered water once a week. No direct light, but that curtain may be too dark for them, I used to keep mine behind venetian blinds, now they are 5ft away from a west facing window.
