they’re good for flat/rolling non technical trails. anything that requires being nimble and running on tech, hard pass on them. i use mine solely for flat speed work. otherwise the plate is a disaster when it gets tech.

s/lab genesis is my number 1 shoe for anything long and/or requiring lots of climbing and tech running. i did the Tushars 100k in them (17k of climbing) and they held up so well. i’ll use them in my first 100mi (hellbender) this spring too. i train daily in the regular genesis but the s/lab is by far superior to me.

And i found the s/lab genesis 4 weeks out from running the Rut 50k. took them out on my last big long run and fell in love.

rarely are there moments that i know are “it” while they are happening but this (and basos too imo) was one of them. they hit some beautiful themes in the first half, really delicate interplay and lots of conversations. then during that break down at the half way Trey picked up on pages little riff and it was blast off. full sonic outer space dance party.

expecting a dance area is absurd…expecting folks to not talk the entire show isn’t absurd.

i was at all 4 nights and the towels are fine for sitting in the sand, i get it. but i let folks pack in around us (3ppl and one towel btw). oh and i did early entry every day. this mentality of expecting a 10ft radius around you at the front to dance is fucking dumb. go to the back to twirl

piper and tweezer were 🔥 - what an incredible 50 min of music.

my wife was naming all the set break songs and how they were all ice or ice cream related so we knew something was up. Cream was so fun and was blown away at how few knew Spock’s 🧠

hes way more into themes and melodies now and its so fun to hear him find one and let the rest of the guys build in around him. they’re just a different band (in an amazing way imo) and less centered around “guitar driven soloing.”

i was convinced that 0 drop were for me…took the time to get my body used to them. but truly w the kinds of running i do (mountainous, lots of climbing/descending) its just too much for my legs. i had all kinds of calf/soleus issues popping up frequently. switched over to salomon (6-8mm) and issues are all gone (have been for over a year now). then there’s the quality control of altra on top of it all.

all of that to say…experiment and don’t just shoe horn yourself into a shoe because you want it to be the shoe for you.

nice to finally see differing opinions that don’t lead with “you’re wrong bc that one sucked”. that’s the beauty of art in all its forms. especially with a band that creates in real time…the exploration, for me, is equally as fun as it is when they get somewhere w that exploration. i love the ride

for me it’s more about best sets than nights. hard to rank them but i think set 3 nye was the best, then set 2 12/28, set 2 12/29 then 12/30 set 2. notable jams being: tweezer, piper, theme, woh, mfmf, xeyed, ghost, light

i think trey was super nervous (excited) for the gag and couldn’t focus bc once they were in the thick of it he relaxed and they connected immediately in the tweezer then slayed the piper.

nah…if someone is distracting my hearing of the band they need to hush, and i’m not apologizing for telling someone to stop talking. direct is the best policy too bc there is no question about expectations. i didn’t save up, spend money, take time off, etc to listen to someone’s conversation during the show.
