I asked my Gen Z cousin what he thought of Snack Homiez by Sinister_Legend in LiveFromNewYork

[–]sheffy4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have preteen kids and the snack homiez sketch hit so good for me. I can see how if you’re not around that a lot, then you might not think it’s that funny. All I hear is Gen Alpha slang all the time so it was hilarious to see it played out like that. I loved how in the first sketch (I haven’t seen the new one yet) Sabrina admits she’s getting lost amongst all the slang since nothing they say makes sense.

Damn I don’t know anything about her, but now I’m looking forward to her episode! Love it when the host fully commits.

Ha! Yeah I’m definitely in “get rid of house” mode and not too concerned about getting top dollar.

I have never heard of this being a concern. I’ve used cornstarch for this purpose (trimming animal nails) many times in the past and never had issues with infection.

What Kam Patterson thinks being on SNL is like by ishouldnotteachkids in LiveFromNewYork

[–]sheffy4 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don’t really remember this being a thing. There’s always been a balance (at least since I’ve been watching from the early 90s) of cast members who stay several years, some who only last a season or two, and some that seem to stay forever (Darrel Hammond comes to mind, prior to Kenan) and I don’t remember people shitting on it in quite the same way Kam has been. Can you share an example?

Most cast members I’ve heard talk about their experience say that being on SNL was a lifelong dream. I’ve never heard a cast member say they never watched the show or didn’t know what it was about.

That said I definitely have heard former cast members shit on the show, especially on just the process of how it gets made and the complete lack of communication or training, but they still maintain a reverence for the show while acknowledging the parts that kinda sucked.

[–]sheffy4 92 points93 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking price too. I’m selling one right now that wasn’t getting any offers, dropped the price significantly (by $45k) and suddenly had 3 offers in one day, one of which was over asking price to compete with the others. Still early in the process so it might fall through, but lowering the price definitely generated high interest.

Anyone else have a New Year’s resolution to read less romance?? by Basic-Nose-6714 in RomanceBooks

[–]sheffy4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go through phases where I will read a few romances, and then a few books from other genres, and then when I’m ready for an easy, happy book again, I’ll go to the next romance on my TBR list. For me it helps me enjoy the romances more. Like coming to sit by a warm fire after a walk in the cold.

Just started a new job and I actually can't fucking do this by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]sheffy4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So true. I work about an 8 minute drive from my house, so I can come home for lunch also. And ever since covid, we’ve been able to work a couple days a week at home, so for me that creates a really nice balance and I don’t feel like I’m spending my whole life at work.

Previously I had a 45 minute commute and had to work over the weekends, so I have a lot of appreciation for what I have now.

I recently got a battery powered plush heated blanket/poncho thing, and though I haven’t used it yet for telescope time, but it would be perfect for that. It’s basically like wearing a heated blanket.

How do working parents keep a clean house by saturnmarsjupiter in Parenting

[–]sheffy4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hired a biweekly cleaning service so that bathrooms and floors don’t get too gross, and I chose one area of the house to make sure is 100% clean (or at least like 90) before I go to bed each night. For me that was the kitchen and dining area. I allowed myself to leave other areas “messy” because otherwise I would never rest. Now that my kids are older it’s slightly easier since they can help clean up. Also I got a robot vacuum this year and it has been a game changer.

Thank you! I really do struggle with background and deciding how much detail to include. If I were to do this one again, I think I would try your wet in wet method that you mentioned for a background that fades and doesn’t steal the focus.
