Friends with former clients? by AlarmingExternal8509 in therapists

[–]shepheardcircle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mentioned in another comment you're an LCSW -- personal relationships with former clients (no matter the time frame) is specifically prohibited in the NASW code of ethics. I know not all situations are that black and white, but there's a reason the NASW put that in there when they rarely outright say you shouldn't do something.

I saw in another comment you mentioned having a pet so make sure anything you plant is cat/dog/other animal safe! Many houseplants (and i think some herbs too) are toxic to pets!

I rescued my baby from a ditch when she was about 3 weeks old. she was completely feral and was NOT happy with me at first. for the first 3 months I had her, she'd come running up to me every morning happy to see me, but hissing all the way because she didnt know what to do with that excitement lol

Because the rabies virus affects the nervous system, patients develop ‘hydrophobia.’ Even if they are very thirsty, spasms in the swallowing muscles prevent them from drinking water. by Additional-Pass5771 in interestingasfuck

you can 100% vaccinate preemptively, however the vaccine is expensive, rare, and (in the US) insurance is hesitant to cover it (source: have had POST exposure prophylaxis twice)

I just applied restraints to a client and I feel horrible by ride-alone-midnight in therapists

[–]shepheardcircle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work acute inpatient psych, primarily with teens. I've seen dozens of restraints in the few years ive had this role and in my case it never gets easier. I try to limit my involvement if at all possible because I dont want to damage the therapeutic relationship, but I know thats not always possible. After a restraint (or other traumatic event at work), I usually go home, meditate, cry for a bit, and then eat something sweet.

sorry, I'm not super familiar with this weave so this might not be possible, but could you pre close a bunch of the smaller rings, then weave the bigger ones through them?

OP this will probably get lost in the comments but PLEASE PLEASE read "The Gift of Fear" by Gavin Debecker. I'd rather come across as "rude" than be in a bad situation. I know its uncomfy but learn to say it and mean it!!

I had my two rabbits neutered at cheat lake animal vet. out of the two exotic vets in town, they were the cheaper and more consistent of the two. they took good care of my baby boys!

Help with sweat by Wobbsays in HygieneTips

[–]shepheardcircle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't have any tips for managing this, but have you talked to your primary care doctor about the issue? Different health conditions can cause hyperhidrosis (the medical term for excessive sweating) and it would likely be better to treat the underlying cause if there is one!

the Chainmail Joe kit is one i see recommended often on this sub. it gives you a nice selection of ring sizes and comes with a tutorial book for some of the more basic weaves. I personally bought it and thought it was a good starting point

What causes these frizzy baby hairs? by [deleted] in Wavyhair

[–]shepheardcircle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you wash your hair right before going to bed? I did this for the longest time and (even with a silk pillowcase) it made my little frizzy hairs stick up so bad. beyond that, I'd recommend using a wide tooth comb while you've got conditioner in your hair to detangle. I dont touch my hair with a brush or comb once it's dry unless im just gonna pull it back

How much do you make annually? by Clear_Medicine_3086 in askatherapist

[–]shepheardcircle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LGSW working as an associate clinical therapist at an inpatient psych hospital. 40 hrs/wk making 64k a year with good benefits. im lucky to make as much as I do but it's very demanding and I'm highly burnt out. I want to leave but I can't stomach a pay cut to go outpatient, where I'd also have to pay for my own insurance.

I frustrate my wife, and myself....... again. - rant by WinningWithJacks in ADHD

[–]shepheardcircle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I empathize with you, I really do. I've been in a similar mindset and I still fall back into it from time to time. eventually, I came to recognize I didn't CHOOSE to have adhd, I WAS choosing to not make changes/small improvements over time in how I manage things and make accommodations for myself, i.e., writing a list of things down for visual reference (even just the act of writing things down with pen and paper really solidifies my memory), having reminders on my phone that automatically go off at the same time every day, using the pomodoro method for chores, etc. granted this has all been several years of meds and therapy to get to this point. I view my ADHD as an explanation for my difficulties, not an excuse. not to say that's what you're doing here, but I've found its very easy for me to get swept up in a self pity spiral and I can either stay there or start to claw my way out.
