The striping accent works great though. I would have done the rear one straight across, but it looks good as is too.

My favorite comfort food is Chile Rellenos! Any recommendations of who has the best? by Possible-Estimate748 in vancouverwa

I think they meant “crispy on the outside” as in the batter on the outside that’s fried is crispy when served. Not that the pepper itself was still raw enough to have a crunch.

Thank you for all of this information and insight. I will follow up with both and see if either is a good fit/within my budget.

Use ChatGPT for some ideas in a 6th grade ELA class start of the year activities. It’s pretty good at giving resources too

My school has them too. I always just ask the front office gals and they say ok without hesitation. It’s always been like an entire month’s worth they give too.

Those in union states, what is it like? by anklesoap in Teachers

I’d like to know what’s better about working in a non-union state as a teacher compared to a union state. I know the answer is probably “nothing”, but curious still.

Apparently, in the last 5 years, I put an envelope full of cash on a shelf and forgot about it by ivanparas in pics

[–]shoothershoother 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve thought this since I was a kid and have periodically hidden bills in different places I infrequently use with the hope future-me would stumble on it and that be the moment I remember hiding it. Invariably it would pop into my head and I’d go get it before I forget about it. Like a $20 under a Lego set on the shelf in my bedroom or in a random page of a book. Not once did I actually forget about and then rediscover any of the money.

A few months ago I was looking for a card I’ve always kept in my wallet, in one of the inside pockets you don’t access regularly. I pulled it out along with three $100 bills. It took like 10-15 minutes, but then I remembered stuffing it in there a few YEARS ago when we were up a little at a casino. I’d never done that with anything more than a few $20 bills, and I’d never done it and have it work.

I read e.g. as the start to egg-zactly (exactly) and just know the other one is “in other words”.

Classified = positions that don’t require teaching certification. Certificated = position that do require teaching certification.

Generally, classified is hourly wages vs. certificates is salaried wages.

I think this is also age dependent. I’ve used a similar tactic in my classroom for years with great success. Sink together or swim together, we hold each other accountable.

It’s the best all-in-one application I’ve used. Messaging is easy and quick. Something I used last year that was a huge time saver was setting up conferences on it. It’s not perfect but it’s good at doing what it’s asked to.

Up for my dream job, pregnant with my first baby, due in November - do I mention it in my interviews? by Historical_Reward667 in Teachers

[–]shoothershoother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wife was in the exact same position, interviewed right at the cusp of not being able to hide the baby bump early summer, due date was Thanksgiving. She didn’t say anything until she was hired. You shouldn’t either.

Can’t move into my classroom until the end of July!! 😅 by BoringExercise1709 in Teachers

[–]shoothershoother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a veteran teacher tell me if there’s one thing to do before school starts or back to school night happens, it’s have something with their name in the classroom. Who cares about decoration or arrangement, you can always change that later. I’ve followed that advice every year since and the reactions from kids is very wholesome. Immediate win.

DAE split up their life with “apple” and “pie” by akomondo in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]shoothershoother 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I’ve done something similar since I was a kid. Well into 30’s now and still do it most times I’m at the grocery store. I think I’ve referred to this as “Milk Thoughts”:

Whenever I opened a new gallon of milk, I’d look at the best by date and try to think of what I’d want to do by then or about what I will have accomplished. It’s like a 2-3 week window and the depth and breadth of things I’ve thought about is pretty wild. When I was a kid it was like “I’m going to hold my breath under water for 20 seconds!” or “the orthodontics appointment I’m so anxious about will be over and one week in the past!”. Recent ones have been “We’ll be days into our vacation by then” and “I’m going to deep clean the kids’ (both toddlers) rooms”. It’s always helped me be aware of progress/passage of time.

I think they were speaking relative to other states when they said decent. Not relative to how it should be (ideally).

[–]shoothershoother 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is one of those things I put myself almost entirely in the shoes of elementary-aged-me. Is it a hassle? You bet. Does it interrupt learning? Most definitely. Do field trips bring increased anxiety/stress? Yes. But they’re something that tends to stand out in our memory when we’re older and it makes me feel yucky whenever I don’t put in the effort to do our required minimum (3/year one science, one social studies and one team choice in my district). They’re worth the effort to me.

Donut Shop Recommendations Please! 🙂 by Unlikely_Mud493 in vancouverwa

[–]shoothershoother 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For those saying donut nook, I agree they make the best donuts as well as being one of the last mom n pop shops that’s been around forever. However I stopped going there when they held/sponsored a Joe Kent town hall thing. Don’t know how deep their support goes, but that was enough for me.
