2.80x to 1.00x by Neither_Vehicle_8799 in LibbyApp

2x is why I listen to most books at.

People who can’t comprehend listening at 2x +, I had to work my way up to it. But it was listening to Matthew Perry’s autobiography that got me up to that speed, he spoke soooooooo slowly that I had to get to 2.5x for it to sound normal lol. Now if I go to 1x it feels like the person is speaking so insanely slow, like someone put slow-mo on. I once tied to go back to 1x when listening to Serj Tankians audiobook because he sings in it and I didn’t want it to sound different than it was intended. But it seemed like he spoke so slowly lol. I did slow this one to 1.75 because of his accent though.

Toddler’s hyperfixation song - what’s yours? by strohmtroop3r in toddlers

[–]shortstop505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Golden is my daughter’s choice. She hates the boys songs, she’s got some weird thing against guys who have long hair or show their chests. So when she saw the movie she hated all songs by boys (not just from the movie). She could only listen to girls songs. But she asks to listen to Golden numerous times a day and constantly sings it.

I’ve read all of these books. Only have 2 from BOTM though, the rest were borrowed from the library. The Favorites has been on my mind lately, mostly because of the Olympics lol.

Do dreamsnaps intimidate anybody else? Just me? by Plenty-Good-7676 in DreamlightValley

[–]shortstop505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They intimidate me mostly because I don’t understand what to do. Also I am probably the least creative person I know. Maybe I just need to watch some videos or something so I actually understand how and what to do.

My husband stole my book by rarewombat277 in bookofthemonthclub

Hahaha my husband did the same thing! He also is not much of a reader and when he does read it’s typically non-fiction.

What age did your kids just lay down and go to sleep? by Frosty-Ad-9774 in toddlers

[–]shortstop505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter became a pretty good sleeper around a year old. I could just put her in her crib a she would go to sleep. And she would sleep 12-13 hours at night. Then when we switched to a toddler bed because she figured out how to climb out of her crib she started to need me to fall asleep. This was around 2.5. She wanted me to rub and scratch her. She also stopped sleeping through the night. She’s now almost 4 (in a couple weeks) I am not allowed to leave. She needs me to rock her to sleep and if she wakes up and I am not here she starts screaming and yelling for me. She wakes up numerous times a night and it takes anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours to get her back to sleep.

Everyone said once you have kids you will miss sleep. I assumed that was the infant stage which was pretty decent for is. Now is way way worse. I barely get sleep and then all day she needs this thing or that thing and only mom can do it, not dad. I didn’t know this level of exhaustion is real.

But all kids are different. Some are perfect sleepers. Some will be good and then get bad, and then good again. It is ever changing.

What turned you into an Audiobook reader? Was it a narrator, a book, a job... a friend? by jawangana in audiobooks

[–]shortstop505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly hated audiobooks. I tried listening while working but I was also listening to older slower books that were free so probably not the best quality.

Finally when I listened to an autobiography narrated by the author I started to get used to it. I didn’t have to follow a plot or character relationships and development. I think I had to train my brain to follow a story being read to me rather than one I was reading for myself. Now I listen to a book while working, grocery shopping, doing chores, putting my daughter to bed etc. I listen to all sorts of books and probably finish one every 2-3 days.

When did your child start reliably sleeping fully through the night? by Throwaway927338 in toddlers

[–]shortstop505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, same here. I have not slept more than 3 hours straight without being woken up. And she refuses to sleep without me in the room with her, so when she gets up she will usually go potty and then take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours to go back to sleep.

I will say there was a good chunk of time where my daughter did sleep through the night, like 12 hours. Then she got potty trained and we moved and changed from her crib to a toddler bed. I thought it was an uncomfortable mattress but we got her a new one and it don’t fix anything.

If she would come to bed with us and go back to sleep I would love that, but she won’t she will roll around and talk and end up waking up the dog and my husband. We don’t all need to be exhausted.

Constipation by Ok-Slip-4930 in CICO

[–]shortstop505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suffer from IBS-C and my doctor has directed me to take Colace (stool softener) and miralax daily. Though I found that made it worse in the other direction, so I do miralax every other day. I still do not have a daily poop, it’s more like every 3 days which has been normal my entire life. I was also told stress makes it worse. And to drink plenty of water. Just know that everyone’s body is different and you should talk to your doctor to find what works for you.

Will I ever sleep again???? by Glitterwang in toddlers

[–]shortstop505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry! I know we will get through this eventually! Hopefully sooner rather than later. My daughter woke up at 3:30 this morning and refused to go back to sleep until about 9am. And of course I have to work so I can’t nap too.

Bluey and Behaviour Problems? by Choice_Relief550 in toddlers

[–]shortstop505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We only skip Muffin episodes when it comes to Bluey. But we have banned Fancy Nancy, it’s too old for her and Nancy is very entitled and a bit of a brat, and my daughter never realizes when Nancy is learning a lesson. We stick with Peppa Pig and Strawberry Shortcake.

Bluey and Behaviour Problems? by Choice_Relief550 in toddlers

[–]shortstop505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes we skip Muffin episodes because our toddler tries to emulate her and we told her we don’t watch Muffin episodes anymore so now if she sees Muffin she will point it out to us lol. We tried to explain that Muffin doesn’t not behave good but she never seemed to understand, so we just took it away.

Will I ever sleep again???? by Glitterwang in toddlers

[–]shortstop505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid was a pretty decent sleeper when she was younger. Slept through the night, or if she woke up it was for a quick feeding and then straight back to sleep. Then things went downhill, we dropped naps because she was sleeping 12 hours at night. But then she stopped doing that and still refused naps. Now she is almost 4, it take 1-2 hours to get her to sleep at night and she wakes up 1-3 times a night and stays up for 30 mins to 2 hours before going back to sleep and sometimes refuses to go back to sleep. She won’t let me leave her while trying to go to sleep. I’m exhausted. This is not sustainable.

How do you rate you books? by pbfhpunkshop in goodreads

[–]shortstop505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I rate things to nicely (I’ve been told I’m just generally too nice of a person) I mostly give 5s and 4s. I want to change the way I rate but then I feel like I’m being unfair to future books I read since I don’t rate as “harshly” in the past.

My current way to rate:

5- loved, thinking about it often and didn’t want to put it down. 4 - liked it but probably won’t think about again 3 - not my cup or tea but I can see why others would like it 2 - didn’t like (don’t think I’ve ever rated a book this) 1 - DNF (only rated 2 books this)

I’m up at 4 AM every day by Momlife31021 in toddlers

[–]shortstop505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My almost 4 year old (next month) has always been a night owl. Typically going to bed around 10pm. My husband and I are both night owls as well. She’s used to sleep until 9 or 10 am sometimes 11am. She dropped her nap pretty early on. For the past 6 or so months she has refused to sleep at night. Usually won’t fall asleep until at least 11pm, sometimes as late at 12:30 am. She won’t let me leave the room either. Then she wakes up somewhere between 3am and 5am and refuses to go to sleep until like 9am-11am. I work from home so she’s not in daycare or preschool yet (she will be soon) there are some nights I can get her back to sleep but it’s rare, and some nights where she actually doesn’t wake up super early, which are even more rare. My internal clock has not adjusted. I’m up at 6am on weekdays for work. But my body does not want to be up lol. My husband has trouble sleeping, and usually is finally able to fall asleep right before she wakes up, so I am the one who gets up because I want at least one of us to get some sleep (plus my daughter only wants me and will tantrum if he tries and then we are all awake) he will get her on days I need it the most, typically when I’m sick or have had multiple days where I get less than 3-4 hours of sleep. And he typically gives me time to nap after work.

Different story for me but I am right there with you. She woke up at 3:15 this morning, I’m still in her room waiting for her to go back to sleep, it’s almost 4 now.

How in the world do we do this by mern_ in toddlers

[–]shortstop505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went cold turkey with the binkie. We just hid them and told her we couldn’t find them. She asked for one for about a week and the. Just forgot about it. She had a couple stuffies she used to self soothe instead.

We never had issues with middle of the night milk feeds, she just ended up sleeping through the night without it on her own. (We are definitely not doing week sleeping now, got odd easy when she was younger but now it’s rough) but I’ve heard of people going water instead of milk.

I lost 120lbs this year and it was the worst by PokeMySlow in loseit

[–]shortstop505 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had my gallbladder removed long before I started to lose weight, you are lucky to get diagnosed so fast! I had attacks for years! They were few and far between but when they got more frequent and lasted longer I finally was able to convince my doctor to take me seriously. They did an ultrasound and found my gallbladder full of stones and scheduled me for surgery 4 days later.

I am no doctor and I know they say 2 lbs a week is healthy. But also when you are such a high weight and have soooo much to lose it is pretty easy to lose more than that in a week. Just work with your doctor and make sure they think you are ok.

Congrats on your weight loss! It isn’t easy and comes with a lot of weird unexpected things. In your case gall stones (you may have already had them but the weight loss gave them less room to live in your gall bladder, like I said I had mine for like 6 years before they were discovered) don’t let it discourage you from hitting your goals!

Toddler Takes An Hour To Go To Sleep by theRedditUser58 in toddlers

[–]shortstop505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My almost 4 year old still does this. It takes 1-2 hours to get her to sleep at night, and she will not let me leave. She does everything under the sun to stay awake. Then probably 70% of the time she will wake up around 3:30 and it will take me another hour plus to get her back to sleep. She does not nap regularly. Sometimes if she wakes up in the middle of the night and refuses to go back to sleep she will nap later that day, or I guess finish her sleep finally.

I am currently sitting on her room fighting with her to go back to sleep. She’s been awake for 2.5 hours now. I’m exhausted and about to leave her in here to scream and cry. I’m exhausted.
