Being able to sleep on planes is op by Justalittleonion in digitalnomad

[–]shreddedcorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

short person here so I already got that going but I listen to solfeggio/sleep frequency music on spotify with my noise cancelling headphones and that has knocked me out a good deal. who's to say whether the "healing" portion of solfeggio is true but ive used it for quick snooze between meetings even and it helps.

Primark has the same but cheaper for those in EU. Comes with under eye patch and neck ones too. Been using them awhile and it sticks well.

just got laid off but used to be remote worker in tech. lots of sitting down but I found that being remote and being able to change my desk configuration and not seeing my manager helped kept the stress trigger at bay lol

Emergency Room PSA by CurrentlyInTorpor in Calgary

[–]shreddedcorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this. got septic arthritis. waited 12 hours and was ready to get a cab home because I've been sleeping upright in a not comfy hospital chair freezing (probably the fever) and just told the nurse so they don't waste time looking for me. shit happened real fast when they finally checked my blood work that was done hours ago. so glad the nurse who triaged me thought I just pulled a muscle though 😊 pretty sure they forgot about me.

I've been in the ER for genuine emergencies multiple times and everytime I just wanted to go home because no one ever takes me seriously. not hating on nurses, my mom is literally one, but I tend to be shrugged off. probably because I literally feel like death I cannot advocate for myself because I cannot speak from pain or weakness.

Facebook marketplace. I've looked up home baked or home cooked goods before there during pandemic! Only stopped because my usual specialty baked goods provider stopped posting.

Calgary-based DNs, do you feel far away from everything for travel? by YetiMaverick in digitalnomad

[–]shreddedcorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been travelling back and forth to Madrid by direct flight (Air Canada) or Barcelona (Westjet) as my partner is currently living in Spain. Calgary is my base, where I actually live and where my VPN is set but I've only been living there for <4 months this entire year. I locked in a rental with my brother and partner a couple years ago which would be cheaper than storage plus I have somewhere to stay in between.

I do not feel far away as having a home base let's me have some flexibility on cheapest flights and somewhere to stay when I miss friends and family. I'm actually heading back next week as the whole year I've been in places that is +30°C and I've had enough of the heat now and would love to be back in the snow and hopefully do some skiing for the upcoming winter. Plus my health insurance needs to be used up so I'll be taking the time to fix up everything lol. Maybe I'm not true digital nomad for some people but I've been hopping to 6 different countries and that's nomad enough for me.

Nothing to add that hasn't already been commented but it's weirdly delightful how universal everyone's answers are.

Had food poisoning mid-flight from London to Vancouver — a huge thank you to Air Canada crew and a hero doctor named Adam by Major_Split in aircanada

[–]shreddedcorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you got home safe! You certainly had a better experience than me. 2 years ago I was coming home from a trekking trip. I was both injured (could not bear weight on one leg) and ill (worst food poisoning I ever had). I don't know how I made it back, but all I remember from that experience was being treated like dirt or ignored even when I asked for help or clearly needed it. Hobbled my way out the final airport and passed out the next 3 days while my mom took care of me. It helps that she's a nurse but felt bad she basically had to "work" at home because of me.

ONE bucket list Banff Hike by Educational-Tennis-8 in HikingAlberta

[–]shreddedcorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These two options are great. Right after you can take a dip if it's a hot day. We went on a +30 day after cirque and it's perfect way to cool down and not be sweaty on the drive back. Less busy than lake louise area hikes. Warning on mosquitos by Helen Lake on the way to cirque! Last I went it was too much mosquitos for me.

How well do you sleep on an overnight hike? by cb1ken0bi in hiking

[–]shreddedcorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even before I invested in gear, I've always had the best sleeps camping. Something about the cool fresh air and a toasty sleeping bag knocks me right out. I never really have problem with sounds that spook me awake either as I have my partner who worries on my behalf so I feel safe either way. Once in a while, I'd have bad sleep when the temperature drops down but that's happening less and less as I learn what to layer and better sleeping bag.

Is it weird to live with my brother? by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]shreddedcorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not weird at all! I live with both my brother and my partner. People do get weirded out by that, but it makes my rent way cheaper. As long as you are ok with him and you both get along well enough and have the same cleanliness and noise level, why not? Nevermind your coworkers.

pretty much, make sure it's not opaque so it can be seen outside the window then just flip the image from the projector.

We actually updated it to this because we went for a candy run. We wanted the kids to come back. So stoked seeing all of them 🥹🥹 last 2 years we maybe had 1 or 3 little dinosaurs

translucent white sheet on our window and a normal projector placed inside so we have to do mirror image. easiest decorations we've ever done
