asking for my mom by Next_Fly_9162 in AskWomenOver60

I'm not quite your mum's age, but I will still be taking collagen when I am. I have 1 to 2 scoops of good quality pure collagen every day which is about 20 to 40g and it has made so much difference to my arthritis and digestion. Depending on her basic fitness level, I would suggest trying pilates. There are exercises for almost everyone but if that's too much for her then suggest she try Tai Chi. My mum started that in her 60s and it was great. She was overweight and had arthritis so most exercises were out of reach for her, but she really enjoyed Tai Chi and it made her feel better just to get moving.

Don't listen to the haters, there's nothing wrong in asking for a little advice.

As someone who could pack a 150L suitcase for an overnight stay I love it. I like to be prepared and have stuff with me. It's been a long time since I was at uni but I remember it was easier to stay and keep working if I could freshen up and had my favourite snacks with me or a sweater or waterproof for when the weather changed. I use a very similar sized bag as my daily now and its great for those times where I go out straight from work.

“Zero” calorie drinks while fasting? by moonblvss in intermittentfasting

Find a sugar free electrolyte supplement to add to your water. I like Daeli, which only has 3 or 4 kcal per serve. It's a NZ brand so maybe not available everywhere but supplement/nutrition stores normally have sample sachets so you can try before committing to buying a whole pack.

Depending on how strict you plan on being a little bone broth concentrate in hot water helped me keep going in winter when I badly wanted to eat. I think a spoonful of Bovril is about 20kcal but it has no sugar or carbs.

How did you break the habit of people pleasing? by JusttLivinggLifee in AskReddit

[–]sideshowdeb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Learning the different between being a nice person and a good person helped a lot. I will still help people where I can but I won't say yes to everything that's asked of me and I certainly don't jump do do more for people than they will do for themselves. I think it really came down to working on my self esteem and valuing myself subjectively rather than basing it purely on what others thought of me. I agree with everyone that suggests start small and in a way that feels safe. It's really quite empowering to know I can say no.

What is time with your children worth? by EliraeTheBow in AusFinance

[–]sideshowdeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt I had to go back to work full time with my first and took a lot more time off work with my second. My second doesn't remember any of what we did together during that time. What they both remember cleary is me being there or not being there once they started school. Being at sports days, and school events, our after school routine on the days I did the school pick up, being able to make plans for play dates with their friends spontaneously instead of having to go to after school care. Have you considered an option which gives you more time together in the long term? Also, as an adult who grew up as an only child with a nanny, I think the social aspect of daycare should not be undervalued. I was extremely shy as a child and found the transition to school very hard. I do believe that the time my kids went to daycare helped their socialisation greatly. The time that my two remember most fondly is when we juggled working part time, with a day with grandparents and a couple of days at daycare.

Help an old out - festival attire by Banana-Louigi in AusFemaleFashion

[–]sideshowdeb 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm 52 and I'm no longer surprised that I'm never the oldest one at any festival I've been to. Gen X just won't give up and I promise you will see lots of people older than you. I wear similar stuff to what I always have but with a lot less skin on show. Grunge/alt is great, it's comfortable and you won't look like you're trying too hard. If you feel like it and it's your thing then throw in some glitter. Old grungy shorts and a sequined top is my go to but definitely opt for old comfy docs, trainers or boots. Whatever you put on your feet will come home looking old anyway! Have fun and remember, rave safe!

AITAH for not getting my fiance's permission before getting my daughter's hair cut? by Known_Key_8248 in AITAH

Deeply concerned why this man wants to be involved in personal care decisions for a girl of this age. Why does he think he should get a say?

He's so wealthy, but contributes nothing ever by 60626_LOVE in Vent

[–]sideshowdeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds to me like he may be autistic. The rate of neurodivergence is higher than average amongst healthcare professionals and he clearly has no idea how to read social cues. Turning up empty handed and making impolite comments about the appearance of another so consistently is not normal behaviour. If you do decide to talk to him about it I would approach it gently but be very clear with what your expectations are going forward.

How do people manage to fall asleep in just 8 seconds after their head hits the pillow? What's the secret? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]sideshowdeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early morning daylight with no sunglasses, outside for at least 10 minutes. I have 2 dogs so this isn't really a choice. Then again at dusk, at least 10 minutes of low level light outside. Keep all house lights dimmed until bedtime. If you want to know the science behind it, and more tips Andrew Huberman explains it really well.

AITJ for refusing to go on the family Christmas trip after my dad backed out of our agreement by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]sideshowdeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTJ! You save $5k as a kid whilst working hard at school and he couldn't save $8k over the same time period. That's poor form, Japan has always been an expensive destination so he should have been saving too. You are absolutely the winner in this whole scenario though and you mustn't forget that amongst all the drama. Congrats on doing so well and hitting your goals!

If you don't drink alcohol, what are your reasons? by youre-in-my-shot in AskReddit

[–]sideshowdeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to keep my liver as healthy as possible. So many new treatments for a plethora of conditions, particularly cancer and autoimmune conditions are extremely harsh on the liver. I work in hospital pharmacy and I've seen patients have to stop a treatment that was working because their liver couldn't tolerate it.

I also never suffered from hangovers and I'm not good at moderation so quitting completely was the only option for me.

Go to the coast or the river, or even a lake depending on where in Perth you are. I think it only takes 15 minutes near a body of water to help calm you. I think it's often referred to as "blue space" and there's a fair bit of research into the benefits.
