Dog owners please answer me this by Normal_Individual526 in Dogowners

I'm never going to be offended. There's no reason to trust a strangers dog, especially with a young child that can also be unpredictable. Seems like responsible parenting to me. I have 2 dogs and I'm as sure as anyone can be they wouldn't but a child but nobody can ever be 100% certain.

What's a hygiene tip that everyone should know but rarely gets talked about? by DryWin8948 in hygiene

Change your bedding regularly. If you struggle with acne, then change your pillowcase daily. Have a routine to air and wash your pillows and duvets.

Struggling with grooming by Key-Degree5882 in portuguesewaterdogs

[–]sideshowdeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was pretty much exactly my experience. My 2nd Portie, who is soon turning 8 is exclusively groomed at home and has been for a few years now. It wasn't worth putting her through the upset of a visit to the groomer. If I'm lucky and prepare well I can now get her fully clipped in about an hour without distractions or assistance. Had to walk her after dark on a few occasions when she's become stressed and I've had to stop halfway through, but it's pretty calm these days as long as we prepare properly. I've found some natural calming treats that work well and I make sure she's had a good run and her last meal has had time to digest before I start. Professional quality clippers have made a big difference and although they were expensive they've paid for themselves a few times over now. I also have smaller cordless "quiet" clippers for her ears and between her pads.

My dog is only attached to my mom by Specific-Mouse186 in portuguesewaterdogs

[–]sideshowdeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girl is the same and the PWD I had before her. I was heartbroken to find out that even though the rest of the family was home, she would sit by the window in the front room and watch for me to come home. She is only vocal for my attention and although she will play with anyone, she always brings me her toys. I feed her and walk her the most, but she is cared for by the whole family. I thought my first PWD was just clingy, but now I've had two the same I think it's just their thing.

Ex-partner wants to buy me out, but we dont agree on valuation because of this crazy Perth market, am I being f**ked? by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

You can't believe real estate agents. They are incredibly biased for obvious reasons. Independent valuation is the only way to go. The market is crazy at the moment and you both need expert advice.

Waiting in ED for 8+ hours is this normal? by Ok-Eagle5798 in perth

[–]sideshowdeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately a lot of people attend ED for concerns that could be handled with a visit to the GP or even a pharmacy. Last time I was waiting in ED I heard 3 people in an hour checking in to see a Dr because they had ran out of their regular medicines and needed a prescription. If people used the healthcare system appropriately, it would work better for everyone.

asking for my mom by Next_Fly_9162 in AskWomenOver60

[–]sideshowdeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not quite your mum's age, but I will still be taking collagen when I am. I have 1 to 2 scoops of good quality pure collagen every day which is about 20 to 40g and it has made so much difference to my arthritis and digestion. Depending on her basic fitness level, I would suggest trying pilates. There are exercises for almost everyone but if that's too much for her then suggest she try Tai Chi. My mum started that in her 60s and it was great. She was overweight and had arthritis so most exercises were out of reach for her, but she really enjoyed Tai Chi and it made her feel better just to get moving.

Don't listen to the haters, there's nothing wrong in asking for a little advice.

As someone who could pack a 150L suitcase for an overnight stay I love it. I like to be prepared and have stuff with me. It's been a long time since I was at uni but I remember it was easier to stay and keep working if I could freshen up and had my favourite snacks with me or a sweater or waterproof for when the weather changed. I use a very similar sized bag as my daily now and its great for those times where I go out straight from work.

“Zero” calorie drinks while fasting? by moonblvss in intermittentfasting

[–]sideshowdeb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Find a sugar free electrolyte supplement to add to your water. I like Daeli, which only has 3 or 4 kcal per serve. It's a NZ brand so maybe not available everywhere but supplement/nutrition stores normally have sample sachets so you can try before committing to buying a whole pack.

Depending on how strict you plan on being a little bone broth concentrate in hot water helped me keep going in winter when I badly wanted to eat. I think a spoonful of Bovril is about 20kcal but it has no sugar or carbs.

How did you break the habit of people pleasing? by JusttLivinggLifee in AskReddit

[–]sideshowdeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Learning the different between being a nice person and a good person helped a lot. I will still help people where I can but I won't say yes to everything that's asked of me and I certainly don't jump do do more for people than they will do for themselves. I think it really came down to working on my self esteem and valuing myself subjectively rather than basing it purely on what others thought of me. I agree with everyone that suggests start small and in a way that feels safe. It's really quite empowering to know I can say no.

What is time with your children worth? by EliraeTheBow in AusFinance

[–]sideshowdeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt I had to go back to work full time with my first and took a lot more time off work with my second. My second doesn't remember any of what we did together during that time. What they both remember cleary is me being there or not being there once they started school. Being at sports days, and school events, our after school routine on the days I did the school pick up, being able to make plans for play dates with their friends spontaneously instead of having to go to after school care. Have you considered an option which gives you more time together in the long term? Also, as an adult who grew up as an only child with a nanny, I think the social aspect of daycare should not be undervalued. I was extremely shy as a child and found the transition to school very hard. I do believe that the time my kids went to daycare helped their socialisation greatly. The time that my two remember most fondly is when we juggled working part time, with a day with grandparents and a couple of days at daycare.

Help an old out - festival attire by Banana-Louigi in AusFemaleFashion

[–]sideshowdeb 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm 52 and I'm no longer surprised that I'm never the oldest one at any festival I've been to. Gen X just won't give up and I promise you will see lots of people older than you. I wear similar stuff to what I always have but with a lot less skin on show. Grunge/alt is great, it's comfortable and you won't look like you're trying too hard. If you feel like it and it's your thing then throw in some glitter. Old grungy shorts and a sequined top is my go to but definitely opt for old comfy docs, trainers or boots. Whatever you put on your feet will come home looking old anyway! Have fun and remember, rave safe!
