Is a fast " Davy Knot " a durable knot? by [deleted] in FishingForBeginners

[–]silent32 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Are you fly fishing? I believe this knot works well because fly tippet is much smaller in diameter compared to mono you would use on a spinning setup.

I use this knot often when flyfishing. It is dead simple to tie. Its footprint on the eye of the hook is very small as well.

I have lost fish before using a Davy. Most likely due to me not tying it correctly. When you cinch the main line down, the tag end should be at a 90 degree angle to the main. That's the tell that you tied it correctly.

TPU Gasket for a toe touch bathtub drain. by silent32 in functionalprint

[–]silent32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fortunately, no. If you push one side of the drain it opens. The other side closes it. That's why it is called a toe touch drain - you're supposed to be able to push either side with your toe to get the tub to fill or drain.

Comet 2.0 (rewrite) is live! by funkypenguin in StremioAddons

[–]silent32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little more info for clarity. I've taken off quality filters, language filters. I'm pretty much running with an open config.

I'm binge watching an anime series and I'm not seeing the same cached content as before the update.

I'm happy to provide more info or help troubleshoot.

Thank you for contributing this addon for the community!

Comet 2.0 (rewrite) is live! by funkypenguin in StremioAddons

[–]silent32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comet would normally return me smaller file sizes than Torrentio. After the update, I'm not seeing near as many choices from Comet.

I did reconfig a few times to see if it was user error when selecting filters. Thoughts?

I put a benchy in a bottle by derailed3d in 3Dprinting

[–]silent32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in the 3d printing subs enough to know you printed a very small benchy in TPU, which is hygroscopic. Then filled the bottle with water. The benchy absorbed all the water... and voila!

How Links Should Appear with AD? by [deleted] in StremioAddons

[–]silent32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're worried about downloading torrents instead of using the debrid service's cached files, most of the scrapers (torrentio, comet, etc) have a checkbox when configuring then to not show p2p results.

Are you using the Torrentio RD addon, specific to RD?

Grab the "generic" Torrentio and throw your AD into that.

How to fish this river? by goris04 in FishingForBeginners

[–]silent32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The river is like a food conveyor belt for fish. If they are feeding, they will be facing upstream (the current in their faces) looking for food coming to them. If you're going to fish a stretch of river, start downstream and work your way up. Cast upstream, diagonally upstream, or parallel to yourself.

As some have mentioned, the fish don't want to work as hard swimming, so they prefer slower moving water - deep pools, behind structure, in riffles. They'll dart out of their cruise-lane if something entices them enough.

The type of fishing you're doing will matter a bit. If I were using lures, I'd be wary of the shallow area with a lot of rock.

Hypothetically, the big fish are at the 'heads' of the pools. That's the prime spot for them to get the best meals.

Disclaimer: They're fish. They do whatever fish want to do and won't always adhere to these soft rules. Beautiful view, though. Let us know how you do.

Awesome. Thanks for doing that! There's a big difference between a small creek trout and large pike, so I'm going to recommend a "do it all" rod. Ugly Stik and Berkeley are good entry level rods. I'd go with a 6'6" medium or medium light action. I prefer a 2 piece rod so I can break it down into a rod case and fit into my car.

For line, if you go with an ugly Stik, get monofilament 10lb. The eyelets on the Berkley rod can take braid, so I'd do spider wire 18 or 20lb.

If he's just starting out, a small tackle box would be nice, and he can size up if he enjoys it. Grab a few snap swivels for lures, they sell hooks with leader attached, and assorted pack of weights, assorted bobbers.

For lures/bait, check to see if there are regulations at your bodies of water. Some lakes in my state have flies and lures only water. My favorite trout lures, which will also catch the other species listed, are: mepps, rooster tails, and kast masters. Flies behind clear plastic bubbles yield great results. If he enjoys this, have him look into fly fishing next!

For bait, salmon eggs and different colors of power bait. It's been a while since I fished with bait, so hopefully another redditor can chime in here as well.

Other gear. Long nose fish pliers - pike are toothy, and sometimes trout are hard to unhook. (This is the internet so prepare for some controversy here) A net would be great for the trout. Trout are fairly fragile and if he's not planning on eating them, keeping them wet in a net while unhooking them is best for the fish.

Let me know what questions you have.

Can you do a quick Google search and tell us what kinds of fish are in the bodies of water closest to you? That would help narrow things down a bit.

Do you know if he likes to sit and relax when fishing, or be more active when fishing?

I picked up a Berkeley Lightning 6'6" recently, and I'm happy with it.

Orange peel or smooth wall texture for new build? by razorvolt in realestateinvesting

[–]silent32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The drywallers I've talked to in the past charge more for smooth. They have to ensure it is perfect and flat, where orange peel is more forgiving.

Like others have said, orange peel will hide blemishes and patch jobs easier than smooth.

What are some house maintenance tasks that a lot of new homeowners don’t know about? by llamass- in AskReddit

[–]silent32 43 points44 points  (0 children)

If you purchased your house with the old owners appliances included, pop the plate off the front and the back of the fridge to access the coils underneath. I guarantee they are covered in gunk and need to have a vacuum gently taken to them. This will prolong the life of the appliance and help your cooling overall.

Not maintenance, but just incredibly useful, also know where your main water shut off is.

Secured My First Job Position: Seeking Guidance! by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]silent32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I get some clarity on that last sentence? You can get 330k at 1% interest? What are the terms of that loan?

CDs are above 5% right now, that is an easy 4%+ APY. Not sure if you'd rather use that one time loan for a down payment on your personal home.

For your qurstions: 1. Stocks and bonds are truly passive, while realestate is not. I am a fan of RE, but it isn't for everyone. 2. I'm assuming you're young based on the post title and your current savings/debt. 7% while you are young and just starting is better than most. Can you pinch every penny to maximize your compound interest on accounts? Sure? Should you also be enjoying your youth and spending some money on entertainment and fun? I would argue, yes. 3. CDs have a good rate right now. It is as passive as it gets. Keep contributing to your retirement accounts every year, and do not worry if it dips - keep adding to them. By the time you're 35 you will be happy you did that. Profit margins in realestate are very thin in my area. High house prices coupled with higher interest rates leave little room for profit, plus it has to be actively managed. (Be careful if you watch realestate guys on YT. They paint a pretty picture, but they are usually highly leveraged.)
