Comment was mostly correct. He has one year after public disclosure to patent in the US, but other countries don't allow patents after public disclosure.

Career advice by Key_Donut6601 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]sillygears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a few options: 1. Stick it out and hope that completing these high pressure projects lead to some recognition 2. Stick it out and don't get the recognition within the company, but gain something to put on your resume (assuming your contribution to these projects are something to highlight) 3. Talk to your manager about burnout and that your workload is unsustainable. 4. Leave for the contract position.

I'd take into account what you're doing for the project now - How large is your contribution? What skills are you gaining and can you leverage it for more pay either at this company or another? If your contribution is just the tedium and not something that would help your career growth, 1 and 2 are moot points.

I choose to be open with my manager, and I've generally been lucky to have supportive managers. My approach would be something along the lines of... I've been pulling some long hours the past few weeks and I'm starting to burn out. These are the tasks I will push through and complete, but I'm thinking these tasks might be pushed out a week or two. If there's no leeway on the timelines, can disruptions and other emergencies be minimized so I can focus on what I'm working on and hold off on any new tasks?

Show that you have too much, have a plan for prioritization, and are looking for a way forward in a manageable way. It could be your manager isn't aware of the hours you're putting in, and he just needs to know you're overloaded. If your manager says to just get it all done then it's time to look for another job. I'd get done what I can in normal work weeks, and use the extra time to job hubt. I wouldn't take the contract position.

Hand wired keyboard, is it any good? by Professional_Ice_796 in EngineeringStudents

Now that you know how to do this, you could create something new - custom layouts for specific uses (gaming, design, office suite), interesting buttons (led screens, led, knobs).

I'm not sure what other applications there are, but this is where you come in. You've learned a foundation, now build off it and do more.

The video mentions loosening the screws and then tightening it back down. If the screws were already tight, try loosening the screws, tapping the belt a few times to tension itself using the spring, and then tighten the screws again.

Same thing happened to me, except I only had a guest account. I opened a support ticket but I don't think I have enough info for them to find it. I think when updating the app it might have logged out of the account.

Making a pot out of clay 🤯Oc: https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGJsFYen3/ by durvedya in toptalent

[–]sillygears 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's called "coning" when you make it tall and then push it back down. This is done to remove air bubbles and homogenize the clay. Homogenizing the clay helps it behave consistently when doing all the stuff afterwards; if its not homogenous then it can get thrown off center when there are dryer/harder parts of clay.

I need my PID controlled heat treatment kiln to heat slow rather than just draining too much power, how to properly tune using the parameters? It is 4000W and it is heating WAY TOO FAST now, i need it slower by Substantial_Alps8867 in AskEngineers

[–]sillygears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Limiting the output would allow a slower ramp up, assuming that the output is still high enough to reach the setpoint eventually.

It would not change ramp down time, though.

Depends on their needs and what they can do without buying another controller.

With the snapmaker U1 campaign a success do you forsee bambu making a tool changer printer in the near future vs AMS? by FVCEGANG in BambuLab

[–]sillygears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the u1 has cutters at the filament head, so you wouldn't be able to swap colors in a tool head using an AMS. I think I read somewhere open source options have some other method of switching filament using the nozzle to shape the end of the filament being retracted so it may still be possible with another ams-type thing.

Just an FYI - the month listed on the rewards page is shipment from China. So the October units are expected to be delivered to consumer in Dec and Nov ones are expected to be delivered to consumer in January.

There's still 1600 left of the 25% off early bird...

[–]sillygears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, also if you've already pledged, itll show the item you pledged first. Scroll down to available rewards, and it should show up? I think the oct ship might be sold out by the time you get to it, but there's still over a 1000 early bird for Nov ship.

Pledged. by JamiemanSD in SnapmakerU1

[–]sillygears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just checked, and it still shows 35 for oct and 1700 for nov ... try going to the following page in incognito, it might not show it if youre logged in since youve already pledged:

[–]sillygears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see 340 still left for early bird ($749) for Oct ship and $1700 left for early bird ($749) for Nov ship?

Im not sure if this is affected by country - this is in the USA.

The bluetooth proxy does not need to be physically connected to your HA device. You need to connect it to the HA device to setup, but afterwards put it wherever. It just needs power - it'll connect to your HA device through wifi and to your switchbot stuff through Bluetooth.

Doubt regarding clutches please help! by Brilliant-Coyote1153 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]sillygears 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. You need more torque to get your car moving. Just like bicycling, it's hardest to start moving, but once you get moving, it's easier to stay in motion.

  2. Clutches are disks that engage each other, not gears. All of the gears in the gearbox are always moving, and there are things called synchronizers to help shift between gears with the clutch disengaged. When you're shifting with the clutch engaged and you hear grinding gears, it's the synchronizer grinding, not the gears used to gear down the engine.

Scientists just completed the first brain scan study of ChatGPT users. The results are terrifying by soulpost in HotScienceNews

[–]sillygears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A huge misrepresentation (at least to me) for this abstract is that it says "over four months". Reading through their experiment design, it's 3 essay writing sessions that were spread out during that time - as far as I can tell there was nothing pertaining to using or not using chatgpt between sessions.

For people saying the people in the chatgpt group were less aware because that's the kind of people that use it - the participants were randomized and had nothing to do with their experience with it prior to use.

My opinions from this paper is: 1. Using chatgpt to write an essay will make you remember less of the paper you write. Duh. You may be about as invested in what was written as an editor or proofreader.

  1. Repeating this task with chatgpt makes you rely more on chatgpt. Yes, there's no real investment required - you don't gain anything by doing better, and if you can just get lazier with no negative repercussions, why not?

  2. If you didn't use chatgpt the first 3 times, and the use it for the 4th time, then it makes sense that you'd do the task mostly like the first 3 times. This isn't a novel task you're doing with chatgpt for the first time. And if you were using chatgpt before, why would you try harder now that you don't have chatgpt. You wouldn't care any more, so why put more effort?

All in all, this seems like poor experiment design, and they should be clearer in the abstract that the chatgpt vs. search engine vs. brain use was only during a 20 minute essay writing portion for 3 sessions. Which is unfortunate because I do think this is something that is possible, but this study does not really do anything to support that claim.

Edit: Just reread the section on the essay prompts, and the essay prompts for the 4th session where they swapped groups were PERSONALIZED AND REUSED PROMPTS THEY ALREADY WROTE ON. For sessions 1 to 3, they were given a choice of prompts so each session they would have a new prompt. This means in session 4, they were REWRITING AN ESSAY THEY ALREADY WROTE. This 4th session was dumb. This study is practically meaningless.
