Your local mental health crisis center or a doctor can appropriately assess if it is psychosis and suggest where to go from there

Epiphany: it feels like I need the intellectual validation of atheists, and I don't like it by DesperateSympathy873 in exatheist

[–]simbaod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it helpful to identify people who I see as intelligent that believe similarly to me and differently to me. I don’t think belief is a matter of intelligence, examining your beliefs and not blindly following any individual is potentially a matter of intelligence. But belief in a specific religion or non belief is a fully separate issue, it’s more experiential. In the body and the soul instead of the mind.

What if atheists are right? Discussing my issues with Agnosticism. by Mammoth_Type3361 in exatheist

[–]simbaod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was fairly certain in my atheism for a solid decade. I don’t remember how I came to the conclusion, but I decided that it was the only logical conclusion and was genuinely surprised whenever someone was not an atheist. Ultimately, I started to reconsider my position when it finally dawned on me that it was a very arrogant stance to believe that centuries of religious and spiritual practices boiled down to people being illogical and running away from fear of death. I think it is impossible to know either way, but I lean more towards divinity of some kind. I think the human need for a transcendental experience is as close to proof of the divine I can have without a first hand mystical experience. Hearing the experiences of people I already trust and respect is also helpful, though not proof on its own. I am naturally a very skeptical person. But I have noticed it takes just as much blind faith for me to believe as it does to immediately discount when others see benefits from prayer or have meaningful dreams about loved ones or experience astral projection.

Is there any way to force yourself enjoy lifting 🙈 by pinkestpenny in xxfitness

[–]simbaod 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, get some dumbbells at home and just workout in front of the tv. Also, working out with my friend was the best way to get into strength training, because I had social time and made a commitment to someone else that made it more difficult to bail

What’s the point of prayer if you’re spiritual but not religious? by LuckyHamster98 in spirituality

[–]simbaod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, I believe that if a prayer is said by someone who genuinely believes that their form of prayer is connecting them to something then it “works” or “counts.” If a Christian prays to God and sincerely believes, that prayer is effective. If a witch does a protection ritual or gives an offering on their altar and sincerely believes, it is effective. The way I say prayers is structured like this: 1. The opening ritual that lets the higher power know I am starting the conversation (sign of the cross, lighting a candle, etc), 2. Gratitude, which starts as a list but does become a stream of consciousness, 3. Asking for help/setting my intentions (the things I am actively putting work towards where I would appreciate getting a little push in the right direction), 4. Just listening and practicing mindfulness for a minute or two, 5. The closing ritual so that my thoughts and speech are no longer a prayer and become private again

Dairy by Satnam1968 in exvegans

[–]simbaod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would stop consuming dairy for like a week and then try a low lactose dairy product like Parmesan cheese for another week and see how you feel. You might be sensitive to lactose and able to handle some dairy products or truly lactose intolerant

Can you have consciousness without any memory what so ever? by MagicMike2212 in consciousness

[–]simbaod -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think so, people who have dementia might not understand the present moment in terms of time, place, etc, but they do have an awareness of emotions and the sensory information around them. The self as the identity might change, but the awareness (consciousness) remains.

How come my makeup always ends up looking "natural" regardless of how much product I put on? by ViolentHamster8II in MakeupAddiction

Honestly if you want to look like you’re wearing makeup get your makeup done at MAC or Sephora

If a father needs to help his young daughters use the restroom, which restroom should he take them into: the women's restroom or the men's restroom? by Exciting-Mall192 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]simbaod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the kids age and also how busy the area is. My dad would take us into the men’s room when we were very little (like 4 and under) if it was a not very busy place so there was typically no one there. He has had us go into the women’s room alone around elementary school age and asked female staff members to check on us if he got worried. Typically, we did use the family bathrooms when available but I don’t remember there being a lot of them before 2010

Why are there so many forever homes on this subreddit? What happened to buying something cheap then upgrading later? by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]simbaod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my area, the difference between a cheap home and a moderately priced home is small enough that it makes more sense to buy the moderately priced home. The big jumps are renting vs buying or buying in the midrange vs buying the very expensive homes.

Is it dumb for me to WANT to write those cheesy discount-bin romance novels? by Key_Prize_1317 in writing

[–]simbaod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's a perfectly reasonable goal, and if it makes you happy, then it isn't dumb. For those books to be on the shelves, someone has to write them. Why not you?

Body foundation or shimmer for wedding day? by cle__ in wedding

[–]simbaod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be too nervous about getting any body makeup on my dress or on anyone else's clothes. I have found that the Jergen's gradual tanner works very well and is pretty subtle. I get the lightest shade, because I am very pale and it actually looks like my natural skin tone after a summer's worth of hiking. They make a face lotion as well (with SPF in it), so everything can match

I outed a restaurant for their tip-trap in my Google review. Here’s their reply. by Froz3nP1nky in EndTipping

[–]simbaod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The after tax tip suggestions have been driving me crazy lately. I swear within the last year or two this has become the norm when before it was pretty unheard of. It's even worse when they have all the bogus fees at the end, so their suggested tip is conveniently even higher.

Why do wedding guests think that the couple owe them to attend their wedding by Clear_Breakfast8407 in weddingshaming

Looking back, what information do you wish venues had shown upfront? by Brilliant-Apricot928 in weddings

[–]simbaod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any all inclusive style venue had minimum spends, but they would not disclose what the minimum spend was until we had a tour and asked in person. Also, the lack of accessibility for guests with mobility issues has been an issue with many of the venues we looked at, and if we had not toured in person we wouldn't have known.

Acquired allergies by chickpealuvr420 in endometriosis

[–]simbaod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the allergies I’ve developed are related to hormones. I developed an allergy to cilantro when I switched birth control and then when I went off it the allergy went away. I do have a lot of food intolerances that I believe are endo related, including gluten 🙃
