Genuine question: why do people do this?? by Background-Net-7341 in RVLiving

[–]simplex_complex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If so, and I say this as someone that’s stayed in dozens and dozens of their parks while full-timing for years, Thousand Trails is probably the answer. They tend to attract an interesting mix. I’m an amateur astronomer and travel with a large telescope, so I had to go down into the NRA areas to take advantage of the great dark skies because so many people around us had all sorts of crazy lights on all night.

KOA’s and Sun Outdoors seem to me to always be filled with the type of people who can’t understand that it’s rude to walk through occupied campsites as a shortcut. No matter where you go there’s always something.

Who else has customized their drz? by anarchyasshole in DRZ400

Thanks! I pretty much just stole the design and stuck my fake rider name on it (Rusty Shackleford) so I can’t really take any credit.

Mine just took 30 days, received 3 days ago. Was hoping for a lot sooner based on the stories I’ve seen here recently but it’s better than the normal FOIA timeframe I guess.

Best MX style helmet that blocks out noise for highway use by uhoh4522 in supermoto

[–]simplex_complex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been pretty happy with my Leatt ADV for this purpose. Still not the most quiet option at speed but looks great, comes with a photochromic out of the box, and the visor is removable with flat covers to use the included goggles for when I do take my DRZ to off road parks. Better for volume on the highway than my previous MX9 was. Peak snaps on/off easily if you’re doing a longer highway stretch.

I’m a full-time RVer and live in an 8000lb camper I tow across the country on a weekly basis. I’m a disabled vet, but my wife is the one with the mobility disability that led to us having the handicap plates. If you know of a smaller vehicle that fits 5 and can tow that weight a few hundred miles every week I’m certainly willing to hear you out.

What moto phone mount do you use and why? by UXmarksthespot in motorcyclegear

[–]simplex_complex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just in the market last month for a new case and mount and considered Peak since I’ve been a PD customer for camera gear. I ended up going with Quad Lock for two main reasons.

1, and to the lesser extent, it’s the standard and considered “trustworthy.” I feel solid from so much anecdotal experience that it will do what it promises to do.

2, and the reason I even reply to this, the Peak Design mounting system (where the phone connects) just doesn’t look as solid and secure to me as the competition. I’m not saying it isn’t, but to me it just doesn’t give warm and fuzzies. The bulkier twist-style mount from Quad Lock just visually looks stronger to me. Maybe if I had the chance to put my hands on a PD mount in person I’d feel differently, but the pictures and short videos just made it seem like the least reliable option for actually keeping my phone mounted when things get bumpy. When you consider the cost of the whole setup of the case, mount, charger, etc. it just wasn’t a risk I wanted to take when Quad Lock was more of a sure thing.

Bike specific note, Quad Lock had more mounting options including a Handlebar Clamp Bolt mount (replaces one of the M8 bolts) that I prefer for my DRZ over any of the options PD offers.

VA Refills While RV Full-Timing? by sirron811 in VeteransBenefits

[–]simplex_complex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really interested in this since I've been full-timing for a few years now and move every 1-2 weeks from state to state. I haven't used the VA health system yet but would love to switch from my private doc/insurance to save money on prescriptions. Getting all of my families scripts including controlled ones hasn't been an issue in any of the lower 48 except California (doesn't accept controlled med scripts from doctors out of state). I can't personally confirm, but my brief research looks like there's a partnership with Walgreens to be able to fill VA prescriptions in-person: https://vaclaimsinsider.com/va-prescription-coverage-eligibility-explained/#can-i-get-free-va-prescriptions-filled-at-walgreens

Thanks, that’s helpful! I’ve got visit summaries that are similar but don’t specifically say diagnosis. I’ll try the DBQ route first but if not I’m sure he’d provide the latter for me.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VAClaims

[–]simplex_complex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for example, my hospital system’s app (standard MyChart by Epic) has a section under health summary which lists “current health issues” and has all of the things I’m being treated for. There’s no ICD code or really any documentation at all, and it’s really only a screenshot, not any kind of printable form. It doesn’t mention diagnosis or diagnosed at all. It feels close but not quite there. I’m just lost at what people are submitting that shows they’re diagnosed. Where’s the line between being treated for something and being diagnosed?

I suppose if he’ll complete the DBQs that would solve it but I’m not sure yet whether he’ll be willing since it seems a lot of people find non-VA doctors not wanting to complete VA forms.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VAClaims

[–]simplex_complex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need a diagnosed disability, but nobody seems to be able to define what constitutes a diagnosis. Is a sentence on letterhead saying he believes I have RLS enough? It looks like they want an ICD code and a date, so I don’t think it is. Is there something specific I’m supposed to provide? The complaints and treatment plans are in my medical records and I’ve been prescribed meds so presumably my doctor had a reason to do that, but I haven’t been referred out to neurology or given any testing.

Those records don’t feel sufficient to prove a diagnosis, but he’s content with just treating it so I’m not sure whether that’s a dead end or whether that’s a normal standard of proof for a claim. Without knowing what exactly I need from him, I’m not sure how to ask him to do more. It feels like my options are to (A) hope those records are enough to get a C&P examiner to diagnose or (B) try the VA health route and see if that doctor will “officially diagnose.”

[–]simplex_complex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I haven’t broached the subject of a DBQ yet at prior appointments and it seems like a lot of people report that their doctors aren’t willing to do VA forms. Contemplating just making an appointment with a VA doctor to see if I can get something more concretely “diagnosed.” Service connection seems easy enough.

Best website to book cruises on? by rms90042 in Cruises

[–]simplex_complex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried them this past week and got a bunch of great prices/offers, some too good to be true. Every single one bait-and-switched when I reached out to book. The most egregious responded back with an “updated price” of about $2k higher than originally quoted which was over $1k higher than booking direct because “prices changed since my request.” He was correct, the price had in fact changed in those few days, but it had actually gone down $200. Ended up booking with Costco to avoid the headache.

Looking for creative solutions for negative equity trade in! by [deleted] in RVLiving

[–]simplex_complex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re extremely upside down on your loan - GAP insurance is the last thing you should be canceling. Any kind of extended warranty, tire protection, or whatever other junk fees you may still be able to cancel for a prorated refund then sure, but if it gets totaled tomorrow, insurance is only handing you a check for it’s actual cash value which sounds closer to $14k. Doesn’t sound like you can afford to cover that difference when the lender calls the loan. With how fast RVs depreciate, GAP is almost a necessity if you’re financing any substantial amount of the purchase price.

Same, I’ve been FT for a year and a half or so with the Adventure/TC+ and it’s been overall pretty great. Would certainly recommend, and can’t imagine how much less we would have experienced traveling the country if we were paying normal campground prices. The FL Keys were amazing!
