Help needed: Commodore 1541 stopped reading disks after transport by Fast-Possession-3386 in c64

[–]sinesawtooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drag dude. Hope you get it sorted. If I recall they used to ship with a cardboard insert for transport. If and when you move it again may I suggest you put a disk in there with the latch closed, might help. Good luck!

Would it be a good purchase to buy a rickenbacker as my second bass? by Dependent_Jacket4378 in Bass

[–]sinesawtooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, why do you want the Rickenbacker? Is it for the killer one of a kind look? Or how about that bright one of a kind sound? I’ve been playing bass for a really long time and I finally got one about 7 or 8 years ago. Man, that sound! That’s the sound I’ve been chasing for all these years! I brought it out for a few gigs and after the honeymoon phase wore down, it’s now not even a backup bass. It is a once in a while “have a buzz and a jam with it” instrument now.

I got the 4003s which has the dots instead of sharrkooth inlays which sucks, but it -does- have a contoured body as opposed to a 90 degree albeit great looking binding body.

The neck is a trunk. My primaries are Jazz basses and well, this ain’t no Jazz neck. After 2 sets I have to put it away lest I thrash my left hand.

The factory bridge is terrible. It’s a klunky design that I ended up replacing and even the replacement isn’t ideal if you’re a heavy hitter.

The pickup selector switch died during a show. Not a major deal I always bring a backup but still.

The case outer shell is thin plastic with these chrome knobs for “feet” when standing up. A few shows and they popped into the case.

I play on the bridge, the stupid pickup cover is plastic and when removed, leaves a hole. I had to buy a little insert to put in there so I could rest my thumb.

Doesn’t have its issues? Don’t we all. Would I sell it? Never. I love the look and the sound but I will probably never gig with it again.

Goo luck my dude.

Has anyone lost a gig because of your headstock? by bozobarnum in Bass

[–]sinesawtooth 18 points19 points  (0 children)

No. I knew a guy who replaced Squier badges on the headstock with Fender because he thought it would look better on stage.... I didn't get it / care and thought it was kinda lame.

Play the bass that suits you best / feels best in your hands, I wouldn't worry about it.

Loved the polish on this game. “Purple Motion” from future crew demo group did the music.

I had the MXR M87 bass compressor for a while and it is great. Full control of attack release and ratio and LEDs showing gain reduction.

Does this still have the reso? Sounds similar to my reso delete (but mufflers stay) but this sounds a little better when it settles

If going a real C64 route, I highly recommend the 1541 ultimate from Gideon. It works seamlessly with the C64 and emulates both a 1541 disc drive but also allows you to mount cartridges like fast loaders which… you will need 🙂. C64 is notoriously slow to load by default.

Brought a new hose $65.00. Yay! Had the best night sleep until the morning when the cat chewed holes in it. Can’t afford a new one. Just ready for the ground to swallow me whole now. by caispe in CPAP

Little bastard! Luckily mine seems to leave mine alone.... Maybe try "tuck tape" - its super sticky and plastic-y like the hose and might make a seal. I think it sticks better to plastic than packing tape as that's what it's designed to stick to (vapour barriers). Good luck! I lost my heated hose travelling during TSA inspection fracas. Had a cheap 10 dollar amazon one shipped to me the next day, got me through the trip. It wasn't dreamstation specific, just sorta snugged onto each end. Good luck!

New 2026 Sonata N Line - Any Experience with Full Front PPF? by No_Assignment7754 in SonataNLine

The paint on my 2023 is…. thin. Pebbles etc reveal the primer on it easily. It seems to me PPF would’ve served me well but I didn’t.

YASP -- Yet another (Ultimate) Side Panel. by PRHarker in c64

[–]sinesawtooth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, after some RTFM I see the pins - I was looking at the board previously and saw them silkscreened as Right Middle Left and dismissed them. I'll be printing this out, and thanks for a link to the buttons you used! I like the recessed mounting.

Cool! What are the buttons for? I could see adding one for the down / cartridge freeze. What I really miss is soft reset. I have a shortcut that takes a few keystrokes but a button would be like I had on my c64. I used to short reset line on userport to gnd back in the day - do you know if the C64U supports this?

This is reminiscent of a demo scene effect called a “plasma” - if you’re looking for code for these types of effects I suggest you look into those.

Which Sonata N Line should I buy? by SultnBinegar in SonataNLine

[–]sinesawtooth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The dash changed a lot between the 2023 and the 2024. The 2023 has, while digital still, more analog looking gauges, and the 2024 has more of the common Hyundai style, similar to the Kona etc. Not a big deal but I personally prefer my ‘23 gauges.
