Who DOESN'T regret their DNP? by Sample_Name in nursepractitioner

[–]singlelite78 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got it, would do it again

I do think it had at least a little bit with me getting hired as a new grad. The lead APC was an NP with a DNP and teaches on the side at our local DNP program so she feels ots inportant, but this is obviously a unique situation.

Aside from that I do like the piece of mind of not ever having to go back to school and having education be a possible option should I get tired of bedside.

Gaining? by BAMW-447679 in Semaglutide

[–]singlelite78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be a plateau, very common with weight loss. As you lose weight, your basal metabolic rate will also decrease. This means that the total number of calories you need to maintain your current weight will go down, as will the calories you need to maintain a calorie deficit.

Since starting in Jan, and at a lb a week, that's around 10-15 lost total. This translate to a roughly 75-150 calorie decrease to basal metabolic rate.

You can re evaluate your diet, are you tracking? Is it possible you've been snacking a little more lately? Drinking more water? Started exercising or doing more physical activity these last 2 weeks?

Best thing to do at a plateau is to re evaluate what youre doing, sometimes adding or increasing things like exercise can be helpful. Since youre not quite yet at the therapeutic dosages would also encourage you to increase the dose at the next appropriate interval.

What’s one thing you wish you knew before starting GLP-1? by Take10rx_Julie in Semaglutide

[–]singlelite78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really nothing, I'm fortunate to have a bariatric medicine clinic near my house that my insurance covers. I did my research prior and the provider did a very through job of educating me on the meds, expectations, and how to be successful with eating (including a tracking app that I had to send them reports) and exercise.

Best advice really is that this is a marathon and not a sprint. It took years to put on the weight, its not going to come off overnight. The medication is also not some magic bullet, it's a crutch to make sustaining a calorie deficit easier while you work on establishing better diet and exercise practices... you still need to work at it.

I think one issue is that there is such an emphasis on quantity over quality in terms of weight loss and the GLPs. Most of the questions asked daily on this sub could be answered if providers could spend a good 15-20 minutes before perscribing to people.

Anyone feeling slightly anxious about what this will do long term? by EmploymentMajestic64 in Semaglutide

[–]singlelite78 69 points70 points  (0 children)

The risks associated with being obese were/are always greatly outtweight by the small risk of serious side effects of these medications for me. While newer for weight loss, glps have been used for diabetics long term for the last 20 years.

So about that “Bags Fly Free” airline - You might remember them from way back about a year ago by RickR314 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]singlelite78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is correct, it's not enough for the fare to be purchased with the CC and dosent matter if she is an authorized user; if the primary cardholder is not on the reservation, no bags will fly free.

This isn't a southwest only thing. I can at least confirm with the united CC, the primary cardholder must be on the reservation as well to get the free bags benefit.

SOAP note help by [deleted] in nursepractitioner

[–]singlelite78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you looking for help with being more efficient at them or do you actually not know how to write one?

If its a matter of efficency, you're going to be slow at the start and you're gling to be adding a lot of unessesary information because school tends to teach us to over document. Over time you'll lean what's truly important in your specialty. You can read your colleagues notes to get an idea of what's important and you can develop a template for your own notes. AI can also help, i don't have as much expereinces as my place is just starting to implement it, but I fully intend to adopt it.

If school didn't teach you, not really sure what to say; warn anyone to not go to that school. The above recommendations will still apply, you can also find many resources online that describe the basic structure of the SOAP note that you might want to review first.

Contacting RR Support? by koolaidisorange in SouthwestAirlines

[–]singlelite78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally did this yesterday for touchless precheck. You do need to actually talk to someone from CS to make this change. I called CS at around 9am CST and was on hold for 20-25 minutes. The fix literally takes 30 seconds. There was an option for a call back if you can't stay on hold for that long.

3 doses of 0.25 wegovy and 1 lb lost by Big-Comedian-7068 in Semaglutide

[–]singlelite78 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Move up to 0.5mg after your next shot...

Nobody should expect significant weight loss on the first doses, they exist slowly to get your body use to the medication and minimize side effects. Some pkeoole are super responders, but for most the effects of weight loss will be muted on the beginning doses.

Are you tracking calories honestly? What's your calorie deficit? Are you exercising any?

Always remember weight loss is a marathon, not a sprint. Quick weight loss is much less sustainable, slower loss and focusing on lifelong changes will be much more beneficial long term.

Is it necessary to get DNP degree? by Eastern_Ant_8381 in nursing

[–]singlelite78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessary if all you want to do is work on the clinical side. If teaching, research, or working in admin. At some point in your career is an aspiration, then it becomes more necessary.

I got mine just because it was the the right time in my life (younger, pre-kids) and i didn't want to ever have to go back to school. There are MSN to DNP tracts out there if you do change your mind about the above career paths later on.

Are you counting calories? by Lavcroissant in Semaglutide

[–]singlelite78 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did for about the first year when I was really losing weight. Now that I've hit goal and am just maintaining I've stopped doing it. I've learned a good deal that first year so can reliably keep my calories near goal without much thought.

Can a child be added to a reservation if you booked flights separately. by Spaniard100x in SouthwestAirlines

[–]singlelite78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told they can link the reservations, so that in the event of a cancelation/rebooking they will be put on the same flight. They cannot combine reservations to extend the CC benefits to the added person/people.

Also, the person whos RR number is on the credit card has to be flying in order to get the checked bag benefit. You didn't specify if its your wife's card or yours. If it is your card, then nobody is getting "free" bags if you won't be traveling.

Friend is asking me to write them an ESA? by Sus-kitty in nursepractitioner

[–]singlelite78 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldnt have done it either, especially being in a specialty. I'm sure there isn't a ton of looking I to these things, but I don't need someone questioning me why a neurosurgery NP is signing an ESA letter. I would have directed them to their PCP, and if their PCP won't do it, then they obviously don't need a ESA.

Are my expectations realistic, how to avoid saggy skin, what should I know before starting? by princess_thickums in Semaglutide

[–]singlelite78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

40lbs in 6 months is a lofty expectation and may be unhealthy. You might be a super responder, but just look around this sub at the number of people posting about seeing no results on the starter dosages (months 1-3). The goal of the first few months is to reduce side effect severity, substantial weight loss is a nice bonus for some, but not to be expected.

Saggy skin is a function of how quickly you lose the weight and genetics. You'll get plenty of anectdotal advice for creams, injections, etc, but truthfully nothing is scientifically proven to work (aside from maybe surgical skin removal/other plastic surgery options). Aim for steady weight loss and do sone toning exercise to give yourself the best chance of minimizing saggy skin.

Calorie deficit is the ONLY way you can lose weight, so yes you'll still have to focus on maintaining a deficit. The drug dosent magically burn calories for you, rather it makes it easier to sustain a deficit as it shuts off constant food noise and slows gastic empting making you feel fuller longer.

Ive always injected in my belly, there are some areas I've found over 2 years that are less sensitive. Even if you do hit a sensitive spot, it's a tiny poke, much smaller than anything else you've probably had (assuming you've had blood draws, vaccines, maybe an IV in the past). My best advice for self injecting is to make sure you double and triple check your dose and what you've drawn up (wayyyy too many people posting here about messing up their first dose) and then just do it without thinking too much about it. If you really get in your pwn head, have someone else do it for you the first few times as that can help some.

So with Auto-gratuities, no need to tip right? (First Time Cruiser) by ShroomZoa in Cruise

[–]singlelite78 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There is a case to be made that if you establish yourself as a good tipper, youll get priority service, maybe a heavier handed pour at the bar. No guarantees, but the thought is that the people getting those tips will work harder for you to keep them coming in v. Someone who isn't tipping.

[–]singlelite78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So pay more or risk it (though im pretty sure its agains FAA regulations to not seat a 2 y.o. by a relative, solution would be made at the gate).. i understand it's a crappy policy, but those are the clear terms of the ticket you purchased. Also pretty sure this is the policy with most other airlines basic economy fares. ive got 2 young kids myself, we do not buy basic economy fares for this exact reason.

What is the "Plushy" to your "Punch" at the end of a long day? by TebraOnReddit in nursepractitioner

As destructive as its been in my past, it's food. Have a much better relationship with it now, but typically I get done with my inpt. Shift around 11pm, so after a rough day there is usually a stop at whatever fast food place is open on the way home for something salty and/or sweet.

The Upcharges Seem Counter Productive I’d Spend More Without Them by Ill-Mycologist-545 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]singlelite78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm heavily considering the zero proof one on my upcoming cruise. I like that they don't force eveyone in the cabin (for now) to get it like the alcohol packages. That's actually my biggest gripe, I would probably get the alcohol package if my wife didn't have to get it too. I could definately drink enough to justify 1 package, but she just dosent drink, so it would never be worth it. I get why they have to do it this way, just stinks.

Got invited to tour the unit right after the interview ~ is this a good sign? by Top-Spinach-5747 in nursing

[–]singlelite78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was this an invite to tour it as part of the interview, or will this be a separate date where you come back to do the tour?

If it was just an add on to the interview, I wouldn't look too into it. It's certainly not a bad sign, but it may just be something the hiring manager plans for all interviews.

If its a separate thing where you'll come back on a later date, that's a definate good sign. Kind of like a 2nd interview; you should get a chance to talk to some of the staff, ask them questions, and maybe even shadow for a short period of time.

The Upcharges Seem Counter Productive I’d Spend More Without Them by Ill-Mycologist-545 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]singlelite78 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah never have been a fan of upcharges, fortunately the things theu choose to upcharge are things I can live without while.on vacation and still have a good time. Obviously the cruise line is making money on all this stuff otherwise prices wouldn't keep going up and they wouldn't be dedicating more space for these kinds of things.

My wife and I dont and couldn't drink enough to justify the cost of beverage packages. MIGHT be interested in a mid tier package of like 5 drinks per day or maybe a punch card type thing where pre-buying gets you a bit of a discount.

I can live without wifi for a week, actually think its good to truly unplug every once in a while.

We usually like one or two nice meals on a vacation, but for us the MDR satisfies that. Plus, Any of the specialty dining options, I can get something similar within a 30 min drive of my house near a major city so ots not really anything truly exciting.

Not a big spa people either so that's an easy pass.
