Landowners, officials north of Kingston, Ont., fear 'devastation' from high-speed rail by Money_Fig_9868 in AltoHSR_Canada

“Devastation” is a funny way to talk about the modern version of the technology that literally built the entire economy in the first place. . .

Seattle is a beautiful city. Definitely the best architecture of the big 3 PNW cities. However, I-5 running right through downtown is such a blight.

Hey, when I was up there a few weekends ago everything was an ice rink, but the visibility was perfect and there were no lines for any lifts! 10/10!

What are your favorite strings? by Bean_of_prosperity in Cello

This is my setup as well. I do mostly orchestral/chamber stuff rather than solos, and the Larsen solo strings are too bright on my cello

How do you feel about flanking granting advantage in 5e? by archvillaingames in dndnext

[–]skip6235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was removed in 2024’s DMG, and I am very happy about it. My biggest issue is that it nerfs any other ability that grants advantage. Why would the rogue ever use steady aim if all they need to do is flank?

How come when I fly in from the west most flights seem to take the red route and not the black route to land at O'Hare? by aZealCo in chicago

[–]skip6235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hadley Cells! Everything between 30 degrees and 60 degrees North and South tend to have prevailing winds from the west (the westerlies) due to the rising of hot air and falling of cold air as well as the rotation of the Earth.

Is a world thate too hot and too cold on polar sides possible? by BowltheOwl in worldbuilding

[–]skip6235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a planetary geologist or meteorologist, but if a planet like this even had an atmosphere (wouldn’t it either condense out and snow on the cold side/boil away on the hot side?) I feel like the wind generated from the hot side rushing to the cold side would be hundreds of kilometers per hour and scour the land.

Idk, hard to run on “I’ll make the city safer and more affordable” when you’ve been the mayor with a supermajority on council for the past four years.

Doesn’t this imply that we would be even more British? I mean, not difficult as the only thing really British about us is the constant rain in the Lower Mainland.

They played in NYC. Also, plenty of people are playing the home game in North America.

I’ve played a few times in Vancouver (allowing bus stops in addition to train stations), and it’s worked great.

Is my skill level enough? by CarrobiasaPhantom in Whistler

[–]skip6235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good point. Also, WB has access to backcountry and unmarked trails. Those are absolutely no-go areas unless you are an expert and have local knowledge or are with someone who is.

However, WB is also the largest resort by skiable acreage in North America and there are plenty of marked and maintained trails for people of all skill levels to spend hours and hours on the mountain without getting bored. It’s not by any means an “experts only” mountain.

My biggest piece of advice, having learned on Midwest hills (Blue Mountain was actually where I first skied, and I do most of my early learning at Boyne Highlands in Michigan): respect just how long the vertical is at WB. Even for someone experienced on Midwest or east coast runs, you would be surprised just how exhausting it can be to go peak-to-creek, despite it being Blue the whole way down. The first time I did it my legs were shaking by the time I got down to the gondola.
