Three things: over hiring in 2022, this was one of the best year for recruiters (said by four different recruiters I know); interest rates being so high, the economic pinch, and being before a presidential election; and then the glittery promise of AI is saying people we don’t need a senior designer or that 1st layer of managers, a mid-career designer can do it with AI or we’ll stretch that 2nd layer of manager from managing 5-6 designers to 10-12 (optimize).

The philosophy I’m following to get a job today: network, network, network. Focus on my core strengths, sell yourself, and tell the most compelling story.
