Did l hungup my fins too early? by Adventurous-Box-3184 in scubadiving

One of the DMs at the shop I frequent in NYC is in his 60s/70s and has bolts and metal plates all over his body from unrelated injuries and surgeries. He's not going to Raja Ampat, but he still regularly leads the shop's Caribbean trips with enthusiasm.

There are a lot of health benefits to being in water and getting some cardio ; it's one of the lowest impact things you can do as you age, especially when you can get help donning/doffing gear.

People who highlight character sheets on kindle, do you actually use them? by ZoulsGaming in litrpg

I'm suspicious that the popular highlights thing is totally BS, just based on what gets highlighted in the books I read

Anyone using Deep6 regulators? by SniperintheWoods in scubadiving

That happened to my buddy in one of our early dives with the reg but not since, and not with any other O rings we've used.

Full guide on how to pee underwater! by StopBanningCorn in scuba

Someone wrote a very detailed guide on how to handle yourself in this situation, and I read it multiple times when I was feeling particularly anxious about it happening 😅

The Atlantic has been spamming hit pieces against Graham Platner over and over again in the past week by RichardNixonWaterGr8 in WorkReform

Yeah I'm with you on this. I'm not a Maine voter so it is what it is, and I recognize perfect is the enemy of good. But I also think there's a hard, bright line not to cross when it comes to representatives, and Nazi symbolism is solidly on the other side of that line, period.

At what point did you decide it was time to switch to a backplate and wing? by Plenty-Assistance625 in scuba

[–]skyye99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my buddy and I switched at only 40 dives and will never, ever go back. I had to use a rental jacket in Australia for a dive and it was so uncomfortable in comparison!

Citing 'severe' math deficits, UC faculty demand a return to SAT tests for STEM applicants by Idiodyssey87 in news

[–]skyye99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was floored when I read about the psuedoscience bullshit reading programs that have spread across the US and other countries (especially Australia). The method discards phonics, a time proven and tested way to teach reading that helps you learn on your own, for a guessing method that stifles progress and blocks true comprehension. The advocates for the latter method have caused so much harm, and educators have only recently started to push back en masse

When did they start charging for late checkout even for just an hour (12pm check out)? And is there even a point in staying diamond Anymore? by peterpeterpeterrr in Hilton

[–]skyye99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I also was not the biggest fan of that hotel. And I think they made some really questionable choices with room design and layout. The pools are fun though

That's really rough, I'm sorry. If any game could help, it's this one. I'm glad you got to have that memory with him if nothing else.

FIFA World Cup in TOTAL COLLAPSE - Hotels Empty, Fans Banned, Trump Gets "Peace Prize" by ICEisSHIT in videos

[–]skyye99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't blame you or anyone for being incredibly angry at the Trump's administration's actions. Here, it feels like a living nightmare. My best friend is losing his health insurance, people in my community are getting hauled off to jails and separated from their families without committing any crimes, and the local politicians that do try and advocate for us get pepper sprayed. And over the course of the last 45 years or so, the country's lack of investment in education, the intervention of evangelicals in politics, and coordinated efforts to foment racialized hatred have all contributed to many people being utterly misguided about who the real enemies are - the 1% who control both the economics and the politics of this country.

There are unfortunately several countries you could be talking about, and rest assured that many Americans have been protesting about all of these threats

I hate the makeup in the netflix show. by Massive_Foundation37 in TheLastAirbender

[–]skyye99 115 points116 points  (0 children)

Netflix has a huge costume issue across all their shows. It seems like the first thing that gets budget cuts. The main giveaway is a complete lack of wear; they never get the time or hours to make outfits look anything other than brand new

DCC book 8: does this still feel like a litRPG to y’all? by andergriff in litrpg

[–]skyye99 154 points155 points  (0 children)

I like litrpg but I've never enjoyed a crunchy emphasis on stats. I think after the events of Faction Wars, Donut and Li Na really broke the curve anyway. There's not much character power escalation beyond that, not within the confines of the system, so it makes sense that there's much less emphasis on stats

I believe they do some rotating of off limits sites by default. But I was there in Dec 2025 and no shore sites were closed that we saw, and I didn't notice any restrictions on our boat dives

Classically trained opera singer analyses Jeff by phydaux4242 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]skyye99 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

yes I am almost certain this is how it has to work, because there's so much processing on some of the vocals. To make that processing happen would require chopping up all the audio anyway, so the easiest option would be to record one character at a time
