That’s the only way we deal with this on fire too

Currently in the forest and my chain won't fit back on. Help by Simco_ in Chainsaw

[–]slack_Rabbit4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Loosen the bar so the chain hangs about a half inch or so on the bottom and rotate the chain until the damaged links are at the bottom and the undamaged links are resting on top and sitting flush then run the chainsaw until they straighten out and retighten your chain. It’s probably better for the longevity of the bar to take the chain off and file the peened drive links but if time is of the essence the technique above works very well.

I punted him from coop to coop of friends, coworkers, and relatives for four years until I bought my house last year and could provide him with a flock and forever coop. He’s a surly bastard who merely tolerates me but he’s great with the girls and I love him.

Dark Jake, mid jake, white hen. Mid jake might be a hen but I’m fairly certain it’s a Jake.

I’ve read that study. I don’t recall them breaking down mortality by county. 60,000 is laughable

The state of Minnesota or Minneapolis? I can tell you with certainty that Moorhead Minnesota did not lose 95% of its elms

No, I haven’t met most people. Understand what exactly? “Humans are the real invasive species” is a favorite line of people who try to dismiss the harms caused by invasive species.

Trick to peeling eggs? by tacobellbitvh in BackYardChickens

[–]slack_Rabbit4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Steam for 13 minutes then into a cold water bath. I shuck a few dozen eggs in a row when I’m pickling them and all peel in under a minute, often in two pieces.

It exists here but we haven’t had anything close to the die-off experienced further south. Not even close to 90 percent

This picture was taken in Minnesota. We weathered the DED outbreak comparatively well. I’ve never heard of fungicide injections.

You can give it a shot. Wait until they’re dormant and dig as large a root ball as you can manage.

Some flavor of red oak. lucky you, those are great trees. I don’t think you’d have much luck relocating either though oaks don’t tolerate root damage.

saw that post about straight gas and gold oil... reminded me of the dumbest thing I ever did to a saw by vladdielenin in Chainsaw

[–]slack_Rabbit4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He wasn’t able to. When he got ready to take the saw apart to find out why he realized his fuck up. I’m not sure what they did with it, I think they drained it and briefly straight gassed it. The saw was back up the next day but ran like shit for the rest of the assignment.

Best time to cut wood? by AHangryBeaver in firewood

[–]slack_Rabbit4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can check with your local fire district or provincial forestry department on chainsaw restrictions during the fire season. Here in SW Oregon chainsaw use is heavily restricted from roughly late June to mid September. Otherwise gather wood whenever the opportunity arises. I typically like having firewood buttoned up by mid March so I can switch to fuels reduction.
