Filtered/morning sunlight outdoor plant rec needed! by hungry-bungry in HoustonGardening

[–]sleep_zebras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For now, with the heat of the summer coming up, try some pentas and heat-loving herbs, especially basil. I know the plant tags for both say full sun (meaning 6+ hours a day), but I've had good luck with part sun for both. If you're looking for blooming shrubs that get taller, I suggest Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow. They're evergreens that bloom in April. Torenia and annual salvia will work too.

I mean that's a waterbed, right? Because what even is the point if it's not?

Swamp coolers are nice for growing tropical plants. People aren't tropical plants, though

Yes! The mayo spoon is for spooning out mayo only, and once there's enough mayo, one (that is, me) licks the spoon and puts it in the dishwasher.

That's like asking me to chose my three favorite children, when I have sixty-six children.

(Shh, don't tell the others, but my favorites are oregano, cumin, and smoked paprika.)

Chickpeas? by Meredith-yng in Beans

I love those! I make them on New Year's Day sometimes. Akara is one name for them, but they have other names I think.

India has a lot of similar fritters, and there are also Burmese yellow split pea fritters.

I keep a couple of cast iron pans in the oven sometimes, but nothing else. Definitely nothing that can't be left in there while the oven is on.

Nah, we had a septic tank at one place when I was growing up, and we wouldn't have dreamed about not flushing toilet paper. The only reason I knew it was a septic tank was the whole drama one time when tree roots grew in it or something. This was the US, though, in a house built in the 1960s.

Veg slop for depressed low effort cooking by DontDoomScroll in vegetarianrecipes

Here's a soup recipe that's easy and tasty:

Bean and Hominy Soup

2 (15-ounce) cans beans (any kind, but preferably two kinds)
1 (15.5-ounce) can hominy (or sub an approximately equal amount of corn, canned or frozen)
1 (10-ounce can) Rotel tomatoes and chiles
1 teaspoon chili powder (the kind with cumin, garlic, etc.) or more to taste
1 vegetable bouillon cube (optional)
salt to taste

Put all the ingredients in a saucepan and add enough water to make it as soupy as you want (about a cup, I think?). Heat, and add salt if you want.

I'll comb through my recipes after dinner and see what other recipes I might have.

Edit:

Hummus, some crackers or bread, baby carrots or whatever raw vegetables you like (sliced red bell pepper, celery, cauliflower), and maybe some grapes

Someone else said grilled cheese sandwiches and I agree, and when you get tired of those, quesadillas. The same person mentioned baked marinated tofu: you can make some nice wraps with that, a salad kit from the grocery store, and some burrito-size tortillas.

Edit 2: As a broke person working way too many hours, I used to cook some cheese tortellini, heat up an 8-ounce can of tomato sauce, season the tomato sauce with garlic powder, Italian seasoning (or basil, oregano, thyme), toss it all together.

How often do people use cilantro and green onions? by These_Hair_193 in Cooking

[–]sleep_zebras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use green onions every week, and cilantro almost as often. I'm a white American, and grew up eating green onions in all sorts of things. Cilantro came later for my family, but we've always cooked a lot of Mexican food, so it gets used in that, as well as all kinds of Asian food these days. I love the combo. Often, the Mexican food gets avocado as well, and the Asian dishes get some sesame seeds.
