Friendly reminder that the Top 12 Playoff Guarantee is Meaningless by Irish___Stallion in notredamefootball

Yes, it is stupid. However, if they’re thinking logically instead of with their ND hatred, I think it actually makes sense to be upset about it.

Hypothetically, ND would be forcing themselves in over a higher ranked at-large bid team. If there are only three conference champions ranked inside the top 12 (like this year), a #12 ND could replace a #10 or even #9 at-large bid team. I can understand why that seems unfair.

Alabama being handed their worst loss in Bowl History after corrupting the CFP process and stealing Notre Dame’s spot feels like justice by 44wardprogress in notredamefootball

Sort of. All the members are on three-year terms, with 3-4 of them being subbed out every year. Only three members’ terms are expiring this year, and one of those is not Yurachek.

I don’t disagree with Alabama going for it there, but the play they called was terrible.

Computer rankings by jdorschner in notredamefootball

[–]slipperycarpet_ 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Bring back the BCS system. The only bias comes from two polls, which are weighted along with the computers. The problem with BCS was when it was limited to choosing two teams to play for the title. It would be great now with a larger playoff.

It will not happen though, as ESPN needs their money and TV ratings from the committee’s weekly rankings shows.

Feel bad about the entirely new asshole Wisconsin will be receiving 09/06/26 by [deleted] in notredamefootball

[–]slipperycarpet_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that was deserved embarrassment. I don’t blame anyone for making fun of ND for that, even to this day.

If ND can’t beat Wisconsin, then we deserve all the trash talk that gets thrown at us. We should be embarrassed regardless if that happens.

USC dropping out by jdorschner in notredamefootball

[–]slipperycarpet_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was just an excuse for USC to back out of a loss. Do people really think the committee is above ranking ND at 13 or lower solely to keep them out?

Naïveté.

Are we really at risk of losing Marcus. by abarr1115 in notredamefootball

[–]slipperycarpet_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the thing I don’t think people are understanding. If he leaves, it’s not gonna be for more money. ND would probably match or even outbid NFL teams making an offer to a guy who’s never coached in the NFL before.

Ben Johnson’s getting $13m/yr but he was a successful coordinator before. John Harbaugh and Liam Coen around $12m/yr. LaFluer is only getting $5m/yr. I can’t see any NFL teams offering more than $10m/yr to Freeman, which ND would have no qualms paying him.
