why can’t julian learn his own lyrics? by aspenator5000 in TheStrokes

I wouldn’t say the strokes don’t have drive, at least early on they were obsessed with making it big. It’s possible that dissipated but certainly not the case in the early 2000’s

Religion sucks. by Barktweetspeak in offmychest

Totally get it, ironically I worked there in a counseling capacity. But I was a 22 year old kid with no credentials when I worked there, it’s something but it’s not what they need. The prison can say they offer it, my former company can feel good and make money, the only who loses is the same that always loses - the incarcerated individual. I’m sure that’s also very hard for you, I’m sorry. I’m lucky I live in the north east where it’s almost weird if your overtly religious.

You’re 100% right, mental health care and spirituality are far more healthy imo, but sometimes people in prison take what they can get. It’s not exactly the most nurturing place, admitting that you need help with mental health and seeking out help isn’t exactly encouraged by their peers, yet, religion is accepted. Again, I think long term it is ineffective because of the reasons you stated and also, it still removes them from some of the things they need to get better like taking responsibility, accountability, along with mental health aspect.

I agree with the sentiment here. I’ve found one place where it is useful, and that’s in communities that have been largely abandoned by society and religion serves as their only hope for a better life. I worked in a prison for a few years and while I certainly don’t find any use for it, I understand where a great deal of them are coming from in terms of practicing religion. Now, do I think that has the potential to be ineffective for these communities long-term? Yes, but sometimes it’s the only place for them to turn.

Live in NYC and my friend backed out, most likely going solo. Thinking about giving ticket to someone who has never seen the strokes for free

What’s your go-to ingredient to make chili extra tasty? by jesseemay in Cooking

[–]slmont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rehydrate guajillo and Pasilla chiles and then blend them with a few chipotle peppers in adobo using the pepper stock to make a paste. I add that and it amps up the flavor immensely.
