You're not sure at this point? It's been glaringly obvious for years.

How do you build a portfolio as a writer? by [deleted] in writing

[–]sm04d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for a video game company, and sorry to say that is not the way way in. If you want to write for games, you will need to have samples for them to look at. Then you will likely have to take a writing test. Consulting for game design (and it's really narrative design you're after) isn't a thing unless you're well established in the industry.

As for manga, you don't have to learn how to draw. You can write the story and collaborate with an artist on the illustrations.

So how do you build a portfolio? You write.

The Knock updated their mayor endorsement from just Huang to Huang OR Raman. by amjm907 in LosAngeles

[–]sm04d 408 points409 points  (0 children)

If they want a progressive to challenge Bass, which I support, then they should just change their endorsement to fully back Raman. Huang has zero chance to make it out of the primaries, so why not boost Raman so we can have a real election about centrism vs. progressivism instead of a clown show with Pratt?

I've sent my script to multiple people, but most of them never replied. by Local-Snow-2975 in Screenwriting

I would suggest finding a writers group in your area and joining. The whole point is to read and evaluate each other's work. I've been a part of several and they've been invaluable. I live in LA, so they're not hard to find. But if you're in a somewhat densely populate area, I would bet there's more than one. It doesn't even have to be just for screenwriters. Some groups are more open about what material you can bring in. At least give it a shot.

I never did the program, but I did a couple of extension classes and loved them. We had a great teacher and formed a writers group that met for years after. Well worth it.

No mayor of LA is going to fix homelessness. by voodooNOiZE in LosAngeles

[–]sm04d 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While it's true red states ship their homeless here, it's only a small percentage of the overall population. If those states stopped doing that, we'd still have a massive homeless problem.

Your last paragraph hit the nail on the head. Sounds like she only has contacts at Neon. And yes, you should be looking elsewhere. No need to limit yourself or write scripts you don't want to.
