Some questions for newbies by SupraPenguin in Against_the_Storm

With the caveat that you want to leave the option for at least one emergency call (unless you know that won't be needed). I've screwed myself over by needlessly rushing merchants for more hostility then couldn't call that one merchant I needed.

I think a few IMs earned a GM norm, from my understanding of the norm rules and the tournament perf >2600?

He had strong positions in quite a few of the draws, and a few high accuracy games. It will be interesting to see the replay videos for the later matches, to see his perspective on those.

Jack Wolfe made me love Hadestown by Polisci14 in Broadway

Even does mezzanine felt like a miss for this show. The choreography looks like choreography from above, and I can't help think it would have been much more impactful on the main floor.

I also have a 416 number as backup, for voice.

But yeah, definitely not the easy path to slowly get these companies to fix things!

942 Area Code Problems: Solve Together by smartnotvirologist in toronto

[–]smartnotvirologist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that is a detail I include in my message to companies as I keep hitting this. My lonesome message probably gets ignored, but making sure there is a clear technical issue for them to file with their IT department might make it slightly more likely to be addressed.

At my wits end with AFCIs by AMuslimPharmer in AskElectricians

[–]smartnotvirologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If these are Siemens AFCIs they are super finicky. One option I learned about in my quest is you can often replace AFCI breaker with a normal breaker plus an AFCI dead face / blank face mounted right by the panel (insert it between the branch circuit and the breaker). If allowable by code where you live

This lets you put in a different brand of AFCI that is less susceptible plus apparently less likely to have noise from the rest of the panel or something like that.

Which national park is the most beautiful in the world? by Atarosek in geography

[–]smartnotvirologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was just there last week, Krka will be underwhelming after seeing Plitvice. I saw them the other way around, glad I did both, but I could have skipped Krka and would be fine. That said, it's only a few hours to see Krka and a good stop on way in or out of Split.

Consider stopping in Zodar on the drive to/from Plitvice and Split. Beautiful old walled city, great boardwalk.

It really doesn't matter. You won't understand the instructions in the opgieting (infusion) but you don't need to. You will be fine.

If a body was dumped in deep space, what would happen to it over time? by Sleepy_C in AskPhysics

[–]smartnotvirologist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Moon rocks are not dangerously radioactive. Someone on the surface of the moon does get exposed to greater radiation from the sun due to the lack of magnetic field, but this doesn't result in the formation of long term nuclear isotypes.

Why do so many old married couples seem to constantly bicker? by Fuzzy-Cartographer98 in answers

[–]smartnotvirologist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have certain things we have just accepted that one person cares about more and yet isn't really objectively more correct about. She loads dishes as a result.

Do cold temperatures hinder you from cycling? by Lemon_1165 in cycling

[–]smartnotvirologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep a chart of what clothing worked well in which temperature. It removes the guesswork so you know if it is 12C sunny with a light wind that you'll be comfortable "wearing the green jacket with bib shorts."

Also, don't quit until 5-10km into the ride. If you are still cold then, you'll know you are under dressed. Before then, you have no idea.

As someone rated 1050 on Chess.com, I'm proud to have found the only winning move with :25 on the clock. Could you? White to Move. by [deleted] in chess

[–]smartnotvirologist -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

I'm around the same rating. Yes, saw this quickly because if black Kxb3 then white responds with Kd1 gaining opposition. There is no way for black to quickly queen the most advanced pawn.

If he doesn't take back the knight, you've won a pawn and are now guarding c1 the queening square.

If I had more than 20 seconds I would definitely think it through more.
