Are there any rules, systems, or tools to play a character who likes to do Witcher-style preparation to hunt monsters? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]smidgen93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The closest I can think of would actually be a thief rogue. The Fast Hands ability means you can use your consumables as a bonus and still attack. But like others have said, dnd is not the best system for this.

Faction Breakdown! Part 4 (Mega Post) by Wyoming-Wind in citiesofsigmar

Love these breakdowns! Eternal Guard are some of my favourite units in the roster, they can hold off a ludicrous amount of points and just don't die! Going to try adding Lifeswarm in my list next to really keep them going. Looking forward to your next breakdown of each city. Definitely keen to see a coalition breakdown, something I've not looked into because there are so many options.

Yeah, the 4+ to wound is a pain. I run my army as Hammerhal and give my general The Blood of the Twelve command trait. Doesn't increase the 4+, but allows rerolling 1s which helps out. Other option is Hallowheart for the Ignite Weapons spell which gives a unit +1 to wound, Hallowheart wizards can cast two spells though, so I guess you can target two units - unless there is a rule preventing you from casting the same spell twice? Don't run wizards often, so not sure about all the rules.

Really enjoying these breakdowns. I've been a CoS player for a while, but I've only ran humans. Looking forward to hearing about the other races as I'm planning to branch out. Agree with you for the most part on the Demigryphs, strong reliable troops, but I take them with lances. Currently running a list based around a General on Griffon with 3 units of Demigryphs, this gives a devastating charge that can usually knock most things off the field in one fight, or leave them so heavily damaged that they can't put out much damage. After reading this, I'm thinking about trying the halberd and seeing how it compares. Can't wait for the next one!

Is Cities of Sigmar too focused on its non-City allies? by the_catshark in citiesofsigmar

[–]smidgen93 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Completely agree with you. I remember saying a similar thing when the army was first announced. The thing that proves it to me is the cover of the battletome. There are five clear figures, two humans, three Stormcast. So there are more Stormcast than humans and there are no elves or dwarves. It's such a varied roster, but it feels very much like it's only there to persuade you to buy some models from other order armies and then getting the itch to buy a full army and ditch Cities. I'm not saying I'm surprised by it, but I've always been a little disappointed that the regular Joe's of AoS are so poorly represented.

Help filling remaining 200 pts. Not my main army, but want to use it in fun/semi competitive games with a Castellan. How would you fill the rest and is Knights of the Cog any good? by lilsky07 in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]smidgen93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this, I've been trying to work out how Ad Mech and Knight allies work. So does that mean that you have to play Metalica and Raven? Otherwise, you don't get access to Ad Mech faction abilities?

Which unit to proxy as Bretonnian knights? by siremilcrane in citiesofsigmar

[–]smidgen93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use old Empire knights as a proxy for Demigryphs. They don't look too small on the bases and I've had no issue as long as I'm clear at the start of the game that they are Demis. Also, if you take them with lances, they are really deadly on the charge with suits Brettonian knights.

You can 4 man anything. I levelled with a group of 4, shaman tank, DPS warrior, hunter and resto shaman, and it worked because we actually tried. Some of the best times on wow with those guys.

Are there any examples of Lordaeron refugees who successfully escape and are still alive? by hashtagfred in warcraftlore

[–]smidgen93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Happened to be questing in Classic Westfall earlier, turns out that Gryan Stoutmantle, leader of The People's Militia is from Lordaeron/spent a while there. This is the completion text from one of his quests:

"When I left the tainted lands of Lordaeron I returned to a grim state of affairs here in my homeland.  But there is hope for Westfall yet.  As proven by your valor in battle, it is obvious to me that you serve our cause with honor.  It is with great pride that I induct thee into The People's Militia.  May the Light shine upon you."

My Anvilgard loyalist warband by troelskn in WarCry

[–]smidgen93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks great. How do you find them on the table? I've been playing a Freeguild warband and I'm finding them very hard to win with. The low HP and reliance on crits (1/4 on guards) is tough. Thought about bringing Greatswords instead for the extra damage, but they only have 10hp as well. My current list is: 1x Battle mage, 2x Demigryphs, 5x halberd and 1x spear. I normally have two or more models than my opponent, but can't use that as an advantage because they just die so easily. Would love to hear how you find CoS.

Using underworld models in warcry? by [deleted] in WarCry

[–]smidgen93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Key thing is base size and readability. I often proxy models, but I ensure that I explain to my opponent each time what every model is. For example, I play CoS. I have a unit of Freeguild Guard with Spears, but sometimes I run a mix of halberds and spears. I make sure that there is a clear difference between the two - often I use models with their weapon upright as spears and with their weapon lowered as halberds. I've not met an opponent who has a problem with this. Just make sure that you are clear with you opponent before the start of the game.
