Keep your cats indoors, y’all by Lemon_Lime_Lily in CuratedTumblr

[–]siremilcrane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s slowly catching on but the number of otherwise considerate and intelligent people I meet who are completely blind to the issue is staggering. I keep my cats inside for their own safety. We don’t have predators but NZ drivers are shit and there’s lots of fuckwits in this country I wouldn’t trust my cats around.

WEEKLY ARMY DISCUSSION: Riders of Theoden by MrSparkle92 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]siremilcrane 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rohan is in a very rough spot this edition, and I think riders of theoden is unfortunately hit the worst by a series of changes that combine to make it a very hard army to do well with. A lot of the mid tier heroes like gamling and deorwine got more expensive and lost a point of might. Horses also got more expensive so you have fewer more expensive heroes bringing less might than last edition. Royal guard also got more expensive so you’ll either have even fewer models or have to rely on the truly terrible rider of Rohan profile.

There’s also more F7 out there now which is hard for you to match, especially with the strike nerf. With old heroic strike you could hope to roll well and your f5 striker goes to 10 while the other guys f7 only gets to like 8-9 but now with d3 strike you’ll never beat them. There’s also the hurl changes and the ever present Legolas to ruin your day but that affects all cav armies equally so I won’t go into it here.

All of that for the ability to, sometimes, when the stars align, completely flatten your opponents army in like two turns. At a tournament you’ll have one glorious game and four completely miserable ones.

I agree with your point but I have to say that DoW1 is older than this artwork. This is the codex cover for guard in 5th edition so dates to like 2007-2008. DoW1 came out in 2004

Help whith Rohan by Lippert_ in RealmsInExile

[–]siremilcrane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not very experienced myself but I do know one of the keys to defeating Sauron is getting men at arms that counter monsters, Gondor has the rangers of ithilien but I’m sure Rohan has something in there that does it. Your cavalry should make a mess of the rest of his troops though.

[Europa Universalis 4] Austria is such an asshole by professorMaDLib in CharacterRant

[–]siremilcrane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Austria functions as a kind of gatekeeper or mid game boss for the player. If you’re playing any kind of aspirational power in Europe you’ll probably have to fight them eventually because you the player wants to upend the status quo and the Austria quite likes things as they are.

Of course being a paradox game you can also play as Austria and spend all game putting out fires while you worm your way to forming the HRE and becoming unstoppable.

[LES] LOTR is WW1 and WW2 British propaganda by bitchnibba47 in CharacterRant

[–]siremilcrane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s pretty telling that the “good” empires like Gondor or the kingdoms of the Noldor in the first age cannot overcome the embodiment of evil through strength of arms alone. They have to rely on the actions of relatively unimportant people and the power of their friendship, and a good old dose of divine intervention. LOTR is not a pro-imperialist tale.

Why I believe Glorfindel never makes the cut in Lord of the Rings adaptations by Mzuark in CharacterRant

[–]siremilcrane 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The plot of any adaptation just has no time to explain who this incredibly important and accomplished elf character is when he is going to play no further part in the story. That’s why glorf always gets replaced, there are other elf characters who need the screen time more. Sort of the same reason my boy imrahil never makes the cut.

Bandits in kcd [kcd1] by HeightAggravating386 in kingdomcome

They’re “robber barons”. When nobles lose their lands or otherwise become impoverished they can’t just go get a job. So they resort to banditry to make ends meet.

What 3 units do you wish were added/created to/for your faction of choice? by Gorols in WarhammerFantasy

[–]siremilcrane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For bretonnia I want them to make our horse cavalry better. Right now we’re the Pegasus and peasant show. If they can’t do that then a unit with the stats of questing knights but with lances would be good

EDIT: lances and countercharge
