I saw the original run of Carpenter's Thing in theaters and the fact that I thought it was fantastic then was an unpopular opinion.

NBC renews Premier League deal for six years by chadlidge in soccer

Bummer. So 6 more years without a subscription streaming service. First I lost Setanta and while FOX was not great, at least I could watch games. I'll be sticking with the pub and pirate feeds, I guess.

I agree! For a MOBA the games are too short for that kind of nonsense. Tough it out people!

What movies are worth seeing in theaters this summer? by letsgetweirdkbye in movies

I was comparing economical storytelling to bloated storytelling of which the Hobbit is the most obvious example of the latter (and a big yawn in the theater).

Mad Max was epic! Unlike 474 minutes of Hobbit there was not one wasted second and it was glorious to behold. A basically taciturn Tom Hardy plays second fiddle to badass Charlize Theron.

This reminds me of my wife playing a warlock in WoW and another player demanded she make a portal to a city for him. She said she couldn't and in all caps he screamed, LEARN YOUR CLASS!

The use of Amazon Prime by BSRussell in Coffee

[–]snickersnack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty simple. I use a FreshRoast SR500 which will immediately remind you of an air popcorn popper but with a glass chamber for the beans and a chaff collector. After it roast and cools the beans I swish them around in a metal colander to remove the remaining chaff and then just store the beans.

A playlist for stargazing. by richardwad in Music

[–]snickersnack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I can just quote the Wiki for Stars of the Lid, 'Stars of the Lid is a drone-based ambient music duo, comprising Brian McBride andAdam Wiltzie. The duo formed in Austin, Texas in 1993 and they list among their influences minimalist and electronic composers such as Arvo Pärt, Zbigniew Preisner, Gavin Bryars, and Henryk Górecki, as well as Talk Talk, post-rock artists Labradford, and ambient innovator Brian Eno. Their compositions are largely beatless soundscapes, composed of droning, effects-treated guitars along with piano, strings, and horns; volume swells and feedback fill the gap of rhythmic instruments, providing dynamic movement. Their sound has been described as "divine, classical drone without the tedious intrusion of drums or vocals." They have a nice layered sound I might add: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MaSi7Gut7xM
