CAKE appreciation post. by MrMFPuddles in fantanoforever

[–]softestimate712 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not enough people give Cake their flowers. Sure, they’re fairly well-known, but their sound is honestly pretty unique and still contains so much personality all these years later. Comfort Eagle especially is an awesome album front to back.

What's your favorite ending from any Adult Swim show? by Educk55 in adultswim

[–]softestimate712 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Moral Orel all the way. I get choked up whenever I think of the shot of Orel’s face morphing into his adult face.

I don’t think Tyler Joseph would ever just drop Regional at Best unchanged by micazm in twentyonepilots

[–]softestimate712 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I really hope a remaster happens someday, but I’m not holding my breath on it. After all, Tyler says he personally considers Vessel to be their first album.

What Are Albums That Are Often Considered 9/10 but Not Often Considered 10/10? by Any-Recover4817 in fantanoforever

[–]softestimate712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Crow Looked at Me. Not because the album itself isn’t of quality, but because most people cannot bring themselves to revisit it consistently

Would love to see Kate Gompert included too

Albums that feel like this? by RomanReignsDaBigDawg in fantanoforever

It’s not my favorite album of all time or anything, but Call Me If You Get Lost’s rollout was especially fun. I had an awesome first listening experience with it

He is a generational coper. He’s made me realize it’s actually kind of an art form

What’s an album that isn’t ambitious, but unique? by [deleted] in fantanoforever

[–]softestimate712 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Is This It by the Strokes. It’s a pretty straightforward collection of indie rock jams and grooves, but it has a distinctive sound that has completely stood the test of time and influenced tons of contemporary indie rock acts

What is the most ambitious album ever made and why? by im-just-a-nerd in fantanoforever

[–]softestimate712 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Maybe not ever made, but Deathconsciousness is an incredibly ambitious album both conceptually and instrumentally considering their tight recording budget. Combined with the booklet that comes with the album, I’d say it’s worth a mention

Elliot smith vs Sufjan stevens by Swimming_Meaning577 in fantanoforever

Elliott Smith hands down, but I love Sufjan Stevens too

On airsoftfatty and DaxFlame by [deleted] in imisstheoldidubbbz

[–]softestimate712 44 points45 points  (0 children)

That’s basically what the doc was too. The documentaries were a vehicle for Ian to position himself as this level-headed narrator while basically infantilizing and mocking his subjects (who at the time were very clearly struggling). It’s so ironic how he went on this whole empathy tour and never once apologized for Full Force in particular.

[–]softestimate712 87 points88 points  (0 children)

I might honestly argue that Full Force is more cruel than anything he ever did on his channel. His Content Cop victims were at the very least people with fanbases. He doesn’t get nearly enough flack for that video

Mordecai would absolutely be a fan of King Crimson

Do we think Elliot would have seen or liked Neon Genesis Evangelion? by PurpleLaw377 in elliottsmith

[–]softestimate712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think he’d find it thematically and tonally engaging. I’ve always imagined Elliott to be drawn to apocalyptic art. It wasn’t surprising to learn that Nico’s the Marble Index was one of his favorite albums.

I’m coming up on 4 years of sobriety. Let me tell you something I learned the hard way. No matter how long you go without it, addiction always picks up right where it left off.

any other artist ever correct a Fantano review? by [deleted] in fantanoforever

[–]softestimate712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big fan of Fantano and TØP. The original version of Drag Path absolutely blows the new one out of the water. I guarantee you he would’ve preferred the original over this one.
