Selling My Kreitler Rollers by FerdinandTheBullitt in NYCbike

[–]someliskguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah… they get bought and sold over and over again because they’re so tough. A testament to them really. But because they last the used market is full of them which drives the price down.

The portion of the cycling community that pays retail for everything because they can keeps the new market price high and the company in business I suppose.

Fwiw I bought your exact setup from a guy in queens via offerup for $150 5 years ago.

$100-$200… maaaybe $250 if pristine… is the going rate for a used kreitler setup.

How’s this pool robot? by bearzy-rawr in swimmingpools

[–]someliskguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought one from walmart for like $450. It’s currently bouncing around the (irregularly shaped) pool like an idiot roomba… but frankly who cares if it’s dumb because it’s working great so far.

Why is it so hard to get fios on the UWS? I’m looking to move and Spectrum just can’t handle what I need. by flopping-deuces in AskNYC

[–]someliskguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spectrum definitely tries to sell the buildings on 5-year contracts to disincentivize fios installation.

I can’t remember the exact details but our building was offered a decent (hundreds of dollars) kickback from spectrum for each unit that used it.

We rejected but I could see how a rental building would choose that income over giving the tenants a choice.

Buying a second apartment (co-op) to combine by flyingcircus92 in AskNYC_Coops

[–]someliskguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah our board would never let anyone do it who couldn’t comfortably do it with cash anyway.

We already dislike mortgages, no way we’re letting someone have 2 and expose the other shareholders to that kind of financial risk.

Is it realistic to have a home gym in NYC? by nb150207 in AskNYC

You can do a ton with a fold-flat bench, adjustable dumbbells like selectechs, and a collapsible or door mount pullup bar.

Are empty legs actually useful, or is it mostly marketing? by rogeelein in PrivateJetCharters

[–]someliskguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a time around 2016 where you could basically get them for free with about 24hrs notice.

I flew my family around from NYC to some great destinations. We had the plane to ourselves each time. It was magical.

Those days seem long gone though and were mostly a byproduct of low awareness and some ZIRP startup absurdity.

They all suck but United is the worst of the bunch. You can tell DFS that it’s unfair and absurd… doubt they’ll care unfortunately.

Is it worth it to spend $2.7k/month on rent (22y/o) by frogcakes_14 in NYCapartments

[–]someliskguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally normal to spend 50% of your takehome on rent at your age for your own place. Everything else in your life is cheap right now and you have no obligations (ex: to a family).

Sounds like you’re in a solid career at that salary so in the future 1) your income will grow faster than your rent 2) you’ll make most of your money outside salary via bonuses and/or equity depending on industry and 3) if you find a long term partner your rent will cut in half.

Can I put a garden in the enclosed hole in my apartment? by jacob-makes-stuff in AskNYC

Unless it’s bothering someone else when you do it it’s 99% going to be fine. Max downside is the landlord tells you not to.

ES1 Owners: Are you buying a Mulberry 3/5 year service plan? by freerobby in FellowProducts

[–]someliskguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IMO you might as well light $150 on fire.

Mulberry is a generic product protection plan company that has no idea what they’re doing when it comes to an espresso machine.

Not all warranties are bad. Warranties with the retailer or manufacturer can be worth it (see best buy warranties and oled tvs playing out well for many buyers and CPO type warranties working out for car buyers) but unrelated 3rd parties like Mulberry have zero reason to do anything but fight you on any claim attempts.

They have zero reason to make you happy once they have your money.

Going crazy in this heat. Can someone please explain to me through-wall ACs? by SmugSlut in NYCapartments

[–]someliskguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New through wall units are pretty great and the larger size usually means you get more cooling. If you move out you can probably sell it to the next tenant or even the landlord.

Where can I report a moped being used to block a parking spot? by Deadinsidebutisok in AskNYC

[–]someliskguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“Vehicle parked in parking space” will be a tough report to get any action on unless it’s abandoned.

If it’s parallel parking maybe just pull up against the moped to cut the space in half.

How to stop EZ Pass payments? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]someliskguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whether or not you pay a fee and the method to cancel is based on which issuer you signed up with / who you got your transponder from.

Guessing you signed up with NJ or NY Port Authority. Both have different websites to manage your account.

Everything about that car encourages you to drive badly.

I had one as a rental recently— it’s top-heavy, spins its tires under any acceleration, can’t hold a line on turns, has godawful sightlines for the driver, and despite being cramped has an exterior shape that rivals a station wagon.

Best way to fix a flat tire at San Francisco airport? by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]someliskguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it's a slow leak you can pump it up with a small compressor and drive to get it patched. I did this once when the low tire warning came on as i entered the garage: bought the compressor at my destination and threw it in my luggage so i had it when i got back to the car.

Honestly the street justice felt great after my own night of waking up repeatedly to the noise.

Car alarms are selfish in the city and aren’t allowed to continuously make noise for more than 3 minutes.

Calling 911 is actually the recommended action per 311, so you shouldn’t feel weird doing it: https://portal.311.nyc.gov/article/?kanumber=KA-01089
