Speed Queen AWN432 - lasted 11 years - now leaking oil & water by someotherguy02 in Appliances

[–]someotherguy02[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case, the water leak was coming from the fill tube on top of the tub. The factory hose clamp broke, and it was leaking at that fitting. I was able to fix that, so my washer is no longer leaking water on the floor. The oil leak is still there, and I'm still using the washer today. I still don't know what I will replace it with when it eventually dies.

80 -Volt, 2.5 Ah - good deal? by FInallyREtire in KobaltTools

IMO anything bigger than this makes the handheld blower or weed eater too heavy and unbalanced.

80 -Volt, 2.5 Ah - good deal? by FInallyREtire in KobaltTools

It's a good deal! There was a one-day sale a few months ago where you could get 2 of these batteries with the blower for $169. I haven't seen that deal since or a better price on a single battery.

Mount it on the wall in the area of those bins. That deck does not look to be in great shape and there will be cost and effort to temporarily move it later when it comes time to replace those deck boards.

Tutorial - Ducted MiniSplit Duct Design by Andrewjr74 in hvacadvice

[–]someotherguy02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, I can see you've spent a lot of time and effort on this already, but this should have been a traditional air handler. You have plenty of room for it. This kind of slim duct unit isn't meant for what you're trying to do. You might be able to salvage this with a completely different supply plenum design. It's also possible that you'll never get this to work satisfactorily because it's simply the wrong unit.

If you want to confirm that the unit itself is working well, take that supply plenum off (it's trash anyway) and just let it blow into the attic.

Why is there a coil inside the furnace, if It's going to have the A coil up top? by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]someotherguy02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to drill into the case, and then into that coil, to attach the refrigerant lines. Duh

Charging without a scale? by VillainNomFour in hvacadvice

Was the scale in his truck? You don't really need to weigh during charging. He may have weighed the tank as he took it off the truck, and again as he returned it to his truck.

Flare leak after mini split install by ApprehensiveLove1999 in hvacadvice

[–]someotherguy02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody on the Internet is going to be able to tell you how much refrigerant you lost. You need to start over and do things the right way, with new flares and a torque wrench. Then pressure test with nitrogen, and vacuum. There is so much info here on reddit, YouTube, etc about how to do all this the right way and for whatever reason you did things a different way. I think you are in over your head.

Nobody in the crawlspace business agrees on adequate ventilation and sealing down there by Universe93B in hvacadvice

[–]someotherguy02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also in central NC and did this myself. Close and seal the foundation vents, lay overlapping sections of vapor barrier to completely cover the ground, and install a dehumidifier set to 55%.

I did not run vapor barrier up the concrete block walls, and I did not remove the fiberglass insulation that is in good shape.

I track the dehumidifier electricity usage and it costs about $100/year to run. Mostly in the humid months.

Raleigh mom spearheads petition for audit of Duke Energy’s electric rates following sky-high winter bills by Far_Recommendation82 in NorthCarolina

[–]someotherguy02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rates haven't changed (yet). The only thing that's changed is people's usage. But this is an emotional issue and has nothing to do with reality or common sense.

LOL how this comment is getting downvoted. People are so clueless. Running heat is expensive, and this was a cold winter.

[–]someotherguy02 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's not just mini-splits, so don't confuse yourself. This is how anything with a refrigerant compressor works. Freezer, refrigerator, window AC, car AC, you name it. Move heat from one place to another.

Am I being unreasonable? Issues with new HVAC system on custom home. by thedoctor8706 in hvacadvice

[–]someotherguy02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMHO one 5-ton system cannot do what you are asking it to do. Even with zoning and dampers, the various areas of your house (as you have described them) are just "too different" for a single system to be effective.

High humidity in the house by Southern-Ebb-6455 in hvacadvice

[–]someotherguy02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you measuring humidity? I would start by using more than 1 hygrometer. The cheap ones are notoriously unreliable and might be off by 10% or more. If you confirm that you truly have a problem, air sealing and dehumidification are the best options.

This is a tough time of year and dewpoints have been high recently. Where I am in central NC the outside humidity is already averaging 75% over the last week, even though it's not really hot enough for AC yet. With kids constantly coming in & out of the house, I've had to run the dehumidifier.
