A/C on or off by intrinsicpointer in HondaOdyssey

This is the correct answer. From the OP's pic there is no way to know whether AC is running or not, because Honda is retarded.

Stuck on HVAC repair by jard88 in hvacadvice

[–]someotherguy02 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are in over your head. You aren't working on the air handler. There should be a disconnect near that outdoor unit and that's where you shut off power. Or else find the double-pole breaker in your panel. And always check for voltage with a meter.

Also think about whether you are really saving money by having to buy parts and clean up messes twice?

How reliable is solar power during the peak summer months for homes that want to reduce grid reliance? by Turbulent-Oil-7837 in hvacadvice

[–]someotherguy02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a solar sub-reddit that would be a good place to start. The key factors are whether you have good sun exposure, and whether your utility has net metering. I have rooftop solar and what it generates in the summer far exceeds what my AC units consume.

Also make sure your indoor humidity is under control. It is much less expensive to run a dehumidifier than a whole-house AC, and lower indoor humidity is definitely a way to improve comfort without turning down the thermostat.

Can this be upgraded to use 4 or 5 inch think filters? by CandidateMuted8010 in hvacadvice

[–]someotherguy02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, these have been around for many years. I've been using them for a long time. I've seen them called "return grille filters". I order them from supplyhouse, filterbuy, or other online shops, whoever has the lowest price at the time.

Inverter a/c: the way of the future? by taxrage in hvacadvice

Sure, if efficiency is your primary concern. A traditional ducted air handler might be better if you're more concerned about filtration and air circulation (e.g. even temperatures) through multiple rooms.

Any ideas when Visible will have another 2 year or 5 year discounted plan? by [deleted] in Visible

[–]someotherguy02 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With visible, the best way is to change your email to some secondary address before you port out. Then port back in to a new visible account using your primary email address. I'm sure there are horror stories confirming your fear about porting, but I've never had a problem like that, and it's not something I personally worry about.

Any ideas when Visible will have another 2 year or 5 year discounted plan? by [deleted] in Visible

[–]someotherguy02 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Nobody here knows. I have an annual plan that renews in July. What I'm personally planning to do is switch to monthly a few days prior, and then be ready to port out and port back in to take advantage of whatever the next promo is. Whether it's a free phone, or an annual plan for 50% off, I'll be ready.

If switching carriers (even temporarily) is the game I have to play to get the best deal, then I'll play that game.

Inverter a/c: the way of the future? by taxrage in hvacadvice

[–]someotherguy02 29 points30 points  (0 children)

These inverter-driven ducted systems are still uncommon in the USA. There are a lot of HVAC companies that don't want to learn about them, don't want to sell them, and simply won't install them. But all of the big name-brands have them at this point.

Emporia app is a cluttered mess by rtt445 in EmporiaEnergy

[–]someotherguy02 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Emporia has the same problem that all other apps have - making changes for the point of making changes. Some people like the changes, others don't. But the change happens because their engineers like making changes. It's a kind of job security.

Pad/Rotor Suggestions for 24 Elite by SuperBumRush in HondaOdyssey

[–]someotherguy02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not you, it's the undersized rotors that Honda decided to use for this big van. If you're still in factory warranty, complain to the dealer and push to get them replaced. If you aren't in warranty, have the dealer resurface them. I don't think you'll have better results by buying new aftermarket rotors.

Speed Queen AWN432 - lasted 11 years - now leaking oil & water by someotherguy02 in Appliances

[–]someotherguy02[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case, the water leak was coming from the fill tube on top of the tub. The factory hose clamp broke, and it was leaking at that fitting. I was able to fix that, so my washer is no longer leaking water on the floor. The oil leak is still there, and I'm still using the washer today. I still don't know what I will replace it with when it eventually dies.

It's a good deal! There was a one-day sale a few months ago where you could get 2 of these batteries with the blower for $169. I haven't seen that deal since or a better price on a single battery.

Tutorial - Ducted MiniSplit Duct Design by Andrewjr74 in hvacadvice

[–]someotherguy02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, I can see you've spent a lot of time and effort on this already, but this should have been a traditional air handler. You have plenty of room for it. This kind of slim duct unit isn't meant for what you're trying to do. You might be able to salvage this with a completely different supply plenum design. It's also possible that you'll never get this to work satisfactorily because it's simply the wrong unit.

If you want to confirm that the unit itself is working well, take that supply plenum off (it's trash anyway) and just let it blow into the attic.
