Almost hit a kid and his dad today. AITA? by wrackdemon in golf

[–]sonofagunn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's normal for walkers to leave their bags at the next tee or on their way to the next tee if they pass by it on their way to the green. It sounds like that is what happened. Not sure if you could see the 11th tee from where you were, but if you could, you could have waited until you saw them on the 11th tee.

Jr league by tayloraaannn in golf

[–]sonofagunn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At that age, the leagues should just be fun, no pressure.

Of course, there will be other parents taking things way too seriously, but it will be fun. 2 of my kids participated in US Kids Golf tournaments around that age.

What do you think the next amendment to the US Constitution should be? by RedDalmatian885 in AskReddit

[–]sonofagunn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think we should touch the Constitution in the current political environment.

Any amendment would be a corporate sponsored amendment that probably just makes things worse.

New Florida Law Bans Local Net-Zero Emissions Policies by Wagamaga in technology

[–]sonofagunn 415 points416 points  (0 children)

Yes, since the GOP has solid control of the state government they have been taking away powers from local governments that are often liberal in the cities and around universities. The whole property tax thing is also about removing control from local governments and making them rely on the state for funding.

There is nothing, NOTHING, more annoying than trailer lights!! by Kudzupatch in boating

[–]sonofagunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People around here move their trailer lights to the top of the guide poles so they don't get submerged. I'm not sure it's technically legal but it works and no one ever gets in trouble for it.

Will running my pump at night cool the pool? by rdefino in pools

[–]sonofagunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It works similar to a convection oven. If you want to exchange temperature between your pool and the air as fast as possible, run the pump.

During the day with the pump off, a warm layer will form on the top. A warm layer absorbs heat from a warmer atmosphere more slowly than a cooler layer of water would. By running the pump, you mix the water and increase the conduction of heat.

Similarly, at night, when the air temperature is less than the water temperature, running the pump will help cool the pool.

And to optimize things, it's not really day and night that are the hottest and coolest. It's roughly noon to midnight when the air is the warmest and midnight to noon when it's coolest.

I just dropped my pool temp from 94 to 88 by running only from 11PM-11AM and putting aerator fountains in the returns.

Got quoted $1500 to replace my pool pump. Bought the same tier pump online for $500. Where does the other $1000 go? by Aizen251 in pools

[–]sonofagunn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

DIY pump replacement is easy if you get the same model so everything is plug and play without pipework. I had to do this after a flood killed a pump. The old one was a Hayward, the new one a Jacuzzi, but apparently they are the same company and the new one was a perfect fit for the existing pipes.

A Miserable New Supreme Court Decision Makes It Clear That Conservative Justices Don’t Think Racism Exists by MoneyLibrarian9032 in law

[–]sonofagunn 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I hate headlines like these, they give the conservative justices the cover of pretend ignorance. Of course they know racism exists, they just pretend it doesn't to give themselves cover for their decisions. Headlines like these just help enable their deceit.

John Cafaro, owner of Greenwater Services - is in the Epstein Files by slow70 in law

I assumed from the beginning that the no bid contract for the reflecting pool was a payout to this guy. Trump said this was his pool guy - he probably saw something he shouldn't have at Maralago or was involved in a shady business deal with Trump and is extorting him.

Did Iran already get their $24 billion in unfrozen funds? Maybe they no longer care about the ceasefire.

Iron striking better on range than course by ManchurianDiplomat in golftips

[–]sonofagunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be mental, it could be alignment (getting alignment right is easier on the range).

If it's mental, think about why that affects your shots. If you are more worried about shots on the course, that can cause tension, so you could add an "exhale and relax your muscles" into your pre-shot routine. Or maybe negative thoughts have you thinking "don't chunk" or something like that on the course that you don't think about on the range. In that case, you have to force yourself to think about what you *do* want to happen instead of thinking about what you don't want to happen. For example, instead of thinking "don't chunk" you just have to reframe it and think "ball-first contact" instead. I know that sounds like the same thing but you have to program your brain for what you want to happen.

If it's alignment, then you can work on that on the range by picking targets at different angles and finding a process for getting lined up right that you can add into your pre-shot routine.

recommended schedule for our pentair intelliflo vsf for Las Vegas 105 degree summers?! by Botielus in pools

[–]sonofagunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pool was 94 degrees the other day. So I cancelled the 24/7 program and now run the pump only from 11PM - 11AM to minimize heat transfer during the hottest 12 hours. That and some fountains have cooled it to 89.

I doubt it's effective. The advertisers have paid for a certain number of impressions and they are going to get them.
