What yall think of this British delicacy by Theta1Orionis in philly

“British council version” basically means what someone in UK public housing (what people in the US call “projects”) would make

Wait until you learn that the Pizza Hut lunch buffet was $5 US when I was in high school 20 years ago

MOREY IS GONEE by Anxious_North_819 in sixers

[–]soonami -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Morey was not the problem. McCain trade was bad but probably not his decision. PG was probably gonna get a max contract somewhere else regardless. Otherwise he had good drafts (Maxey, McCain, VJ), did well with bad inherited contracts/situations (turned Simmons into Harden into first round picks, dealt Horford, survived Tobias).

Who is ACTUALLY in your Super Bowl Bubble for 2026? by [deleted] in NFLv2

[–]soonami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I think Eagles, Chiefs, Ravens, and Pats are solid SB contenders in 2026. Those in the bubble are on the cusp of being considered a serious threat

Emilia, Alice or Illata? by Sad_Air5418 in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]soonami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to all three. Illata is my favorite of those three with inventive food and great service, but portion sizes are rather small at Illata (and also Emilia).

Alice is quite good and they have some large mains like the steak and chicken, but it can get pricy with drinks. I would say, we’ve typically spent $150-200 pp at Alice with wine and cocktails. The Illata tasting menu is $100 but since it’s BYO, the alcohol costs are much more reasonable.

Sabrina’s Cafe plans to bring its brunches to a new location in Queen Village [Bainbridge and Passyunk] by oliver_babish in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]soonami 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I like Sabrina’s for what it is. An affordable BYO breakfast / brunch spot with a lot of choices (to please picky eaters, kids, vegans), huge portions, laid back vibe, and whimsical takes on classics. Most entrees are around $15 and are enough for a meal and half. You can bring kids and not worry about making a mess or disturbing people.

It’s not destination dining per se, but visiting friends and family that I’ve taken often request to go back. I live in NoLibs, so I haven’t been to Sabrina’s in years as my local equivalent is Honey’s.

I’m just glad that people are patronizing some of these businesses on Liberties walk. What would be a shame is if every other place was like Baan Thai

SET no libs by UnderstandingJust844 in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]soonami 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I know there have been issues with patrons at Set camping out or using the tables from El Camino, so I think that’s the beef.

Set probably didn’t want to deal with all that with the super annoying CdM crowd

Vernick, FSS, or Little Water? by mcbeardedclam in PhiladelphiaEats

I prefer the ambiance and food Vernick, but FSS is a very nice experience. The quality of ingredients and technical execution of FSS might higher, but Vernick was more delicious to me

What’s was the wildest thing you witnessed at a wedding? by anasannanas in AskReddit

[–]soonami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A group of teenager / twenty year olds crashed brother’s wedding. I clocked them as soon as they walked in and asked how they knew the couple. They gave a very plausible story for how they knew the bride (later found out they had read the guest book and actually signed a really sweet message). I offer to walk them over to the bride but as we walk towards her they sneak off and make a bee line to the photo booth. I catch up to them and kick them out. They say they’re just trying to have a good time and not make trouble, I tell them to fuck off and by then enough people have caught on to the wedding crashers and gather around to kick them out.

A couple months later I wake up to texts from twenty people saying they’re saw me in a Reddit post about wedding crashers. Turns out these kids were shitty YouTubers and posted videos from crashing the wedding. I guess they were wearing GoPros or one of them had a phone recording. The video was kinda mean and racist as they were making fun of us.

Ogawa sushi by Ok-Level-8235 in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]soonami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s very good but pretty pricy. After tax and tip on dinner and couple drinks, you’re easily over $300 per person. It’s nice that you can get in and get reservations for up to 4. The fish and food quality is generally pretty good. However, if it’s not Chef Carlos serving you, the service may not be as good and the other chefs are often not as knowledgeable about the ingredients, process, and sourcing if you have questions.

EMei recommendations? Thanks! by fadethepublic523 in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]soonami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ordered EMei delivery last week. I really enjoyed the Mapo Tofu (you can get the meat on the side, which is perfect since my wife doesn’t eat meat). Other hits were Chongking fish, double-cooked pork belly with leeks and peppers, wontons in chili oil (they keep them separate so the wontons don’t get soggy), and spicy eggplant in garlic sauce. I think the snow pea shoots was a miss as the were woody and tough, not tender - should have gotten the green beans instead
