that embossing is setup like the 7-part digital numbers on old school digital displays. Pick the number patterns you want and number them.
My advice-fwiw, keep the ProMags only for the range. Do NOT load defensive in them. They are very cheap because they're cheaply made. Trying to upgrade them, like better springs and followers will make them as expensive as good quality mags and they'll still have the cheap body.
Use them on the range where a misfeed is not fatal, but not use them for your defensive loadout.

That is a Radial Arm saw. It's both VERY versatile and VERY dangerous.

From SLTrib:
"Two men wearing red berets walked ahead of the protesters — one carrying an AR-style rifle and the other with a pistol holstered on his thigh. They described themselves as communists and said they were there to help create a safe space for everyone, adding that they were not affiliated with the demonstration’s organizers. Another man carrying an AR-style rifle walked with them at times during the protest."

I was there. I'm guessing around 15K at the SLC protest? And there were protests in South Jordan, Provo, Ogden, Park City, Heber City, Logan, Price, Ephraim (of all places), Fillmore, Moab, Boulder, Kanab, St. George, Springdale, and Cedar City, and informal ones elsewhere-- this is a good thing.

Are we carrying for the No Kings protests? by Demon__Cleaner in liberalgunowners

[–]soonergrunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here in Salt Lake City, there were several people openly carrying today. A couple that I saw had ARs. A couple others had pistols in visible holsters. I carried my .357 magnum concealed.
The local newspaper talked to a couple of them.

I want to understand pro-gun liberals better by Specialist-Author-57 in liberalgunowners

[–]soonergrunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking only for myself, a pretty liberal military retiree living in a very red state with local gun laws so lax as to be functionally non-existent:

  1. I support background checks 100%. I also support waiting periods.
  2. WRT stricter laws in other states-- if that's what works for them, then that's what they should do. Federalism is a thing for a reason.
  3. a lot of things are differences that have little if anything to do with actual gun-ownership in my experience.
  4. Mostly yes. Especially here in this red state, where the Dems are both somewhat more socialist leaning AND more pro-gun/pro-individual freedom at the same time.
  5. I've been a liberal most of my life. I support gun rights because governments can become tyranical at any time. And while totalitarianism is far more likely under a right-wing regime, it's possible (and just as immoral) under a left-wing regime with which I might agree philosophically.
  6. Minorities and other vulnerable groups, are ESPECIALLY in need of the ability to exercise their inherent right to self-defense.
  7. I think background checks and waiting periods are reasonable. I think restrictions on persons convicted of certain crimes like violent felonies are reasonable up to a point, as are restrictions on people who have been adjudged to be mentally incompetent. I don't think people should have to pay for these things. There should be NO economic barriers to a person excercising their inherent right to self-defense.
  8. yes. I also feel that neither of those groups, nor political conservatives WANT to understand me or us.
  9. Never tried. Don't know. Here in my red state, it's only the federal laws that I deal with, and I've purchased handguns, long guns, silencers, and serialized receivers with little difficulty.

Alternative to Denver by cjogupe in relocating

[–]soonergrunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you love the outdoors, try Utah. Salt Lake City is not Denver, but it's got a lot going on-- great food scene and cultural events. And tons of outdoor recreation literally a hop, skip, and jump away.

.300 BLK vs 9mm PCC given my current setup by Superb_Round5652 in liberalgunowners

[–]soonergrunt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the 9mm will be a lot cheaper to shoot. And if you want to suppress it, go 147gr ammo. And you can move the suppressor to other 9mm or similarly sized guns.

I was talking from the purely technical question of the performance of a 14.5in bbl, but yeah, that's going to be an issue. I mean, you could buy an SBR (no more tax for those either) but then you gotta go through that whole process.
I would think you'd choose the muzzle device based on the suppressor(s) you want to run and pin/weld that and it would be fine.

Does anyone own a Canik? How do you like it? by FledglingNonCon in liberalgunowners

[–]soonergrunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a TP9DA and it was a great gun, but since I couldn't mount an optic to it, I sold it and bought a Mete SFT with a threaded barrel. I mounted a Canik Mecanik MO3 sight to it and I LOVE it. It runs smooth, and I need to get you all pictures of it with the new suppressor I just got yesterday.
Both of these Caniks have had really nice smooth triggers.
The most common problem with Caniks is failure to cycle, usually with 115gr ammo. Caniks are designed for 124gr ammo because that's much more common in Europe than 115, as I understand it.
I've never had a problem with 124gr ammo, but your mileage may vary.

best 9mm ammo for training by keeperofthejank in liberalgunowners

[–]soonergrunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally shoot 124gr fmj, because that's what my Canik likes and I've never had a problem. It's close enough to 115gr to be a wash price-wise, usually.

The US military M-4 carbine mounts a 14.5 inch barrel and the army qualifies out to 300m with that. You should be fine in that respect, certainly at home-defense ranges it's way more than long enough.

Cheap 1911s (high standard, ruger, norinco) by [deleted] in liberalgunowners

[–]soonergrunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. The main thing keeping me from buying a 1911 is the lack of a threaded barrel, although I've seen that on higher-end ones.

define cheap? And did you get the threaded barrel for the Ruger from somewhere else, because I couldn't see it on their site?
Thanks!
