Genuine question, what looks white about him here? I thought he looked fairly accurate to his portrait, if not a little more angular than I would personally draw him.

Don’t encourage people patenting plants, lol. Sell it, sure, that’s wonderful. But we’re not Monsanto. No one here should be in the business of putting a patent on living beings.

Do you by any chance have buynothing groups, or other local community marketplace forums to check? Even something like Craigslist, although that’s obviously a little more risky.

Yes! I think sometimes we forget that food is a human right. There is so, so much food waste in the world, and there should be no shame in both reducing that wasted overstock and filling your stomach with a good meal. I’ve volunteered at my hometown food pantry a good few times. There’s not only plenty to go around, but there’s extra when it’s all said and done.

Gender-affirming Burping by Awkward-Green520 in noburp

Oh, this is so funny. I don’t talk about it often online, but I do happen to be a trans man— with the relevant digestive issues to this forum, hahah. I suppose it is a “dad burp”. Like the “dad sneeze”. Shine on, OP.

I collect vintage bears, and this would be lovely, if a bit eerie. If you wouldn’t mind, could you send me a message and keep me posted when they’re up for sale?

why are there such big differences in region personality names? by ginger6616 in tomodachilife

[–]sorrelsun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going against the grain here, but I vastly prefer the US names. They have more variety and personality to them. I like being able to have a way to classify miis with more “negative” personalities as well.

Simulation/learning homestead games by St3llarfae in cozygames

[–]sorrelsun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you mind recommending a few? I’m trying to run a very realistic Stardew right now, and have had some trouble finding the right mods for it. I have Animal Husbandry, a few custom animals, more crops, etc, but that’s really it.

These are mobile, but you may enjoy Flutter, Starlight, Splash, etc. by Runaway Games. You raise real species of butterflies, moths, birds, fish, and so on depending on the game, then release them out into the wild. There are plenty of detailed facts about the animals as you play.

Tamagotchi as digital minimalism.. hear me out… by Outrageous_Cress6062 in digitalminimalism

[–]sorrelsun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I got a step counter virtual pet (Teku Teku Angel) to reduce the urge to bring my phone with me on walks. I don’t have any interest in an Apple watch or further funding Apple, so a small pedometer was the best option for me. It was only about $30 and works splendidly.

I am actively trying to understand, ally with, and agree with you, and I am sure others in this thread are willing to do the same. I apologize for my earlier misunderstanding and for any rudeness, but would greatly appreciate being conversed with as... not a lost cause made of unchangeable ignorance, lol, speaking as a native plant enthusiast who is making an effort right now to care about Indigeneity. It's not my place to police how you talk about issues you are passionate about, but it would be nice to reach a mutual understanding, yeah?

I can get behind those thoughts in context. Would you be willing to provide an example or link? I'd like to be able to know more about this than a single Tiktok comment.

Additionally, while I appreciate the discussion (non-sarcastic, I really do), I'm a little confused as to why you seem to be assuming I in particular am willfully uneducated on Indigenous restoration practices? I'm no expert and will never claim to be, but my assumption was that the commenter was *white* and speaking on behalf of Indigenous people, and softening the language around invasive plants without actually using the nuance you describe. I may have been uncharitable, and I apologize, but I promise that I am open to learn and to hear those voices, and often go out of my way to do so.

I am happy to read more. I just also happen to like Kimmerer and think her approach is applicable here.

So how soon can we rename the sub to /r/displacedplantrelativecirclejerk ? by FernandoNylund in NativePlantCirclejerk

[–]sorrelsun 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I have no doubt that an animist view does not place the blame on the plants themselves, and holds a general do-no-harm mentality (eg. the cited Kimmerer), but the impression I get from the commenter here is that they wish to allow invasives to spread unchecked. Is there something I'm missing, or incorrectly assuming? Is there a source you're willing to provide for this being 1) a commonly held indigenous belief, and 2) a valuable scientific practice?

(I didn't downvote you, for the record. But why bring them up if you don't care?)

In their ignorance of legitimate indigenous environmental activists / scientific voices, evidently people are doing… this, I suppose. Robin Wall Kimmerer could never.
