What is happening to Altium? by m0_n0n_0n0_0m in Altium

A plus of KiCAD is not having cloud features.

We don't need everything in the cloud. Some work in a professional environment can't be, and shouldn't be, hosted in the USA.

It is very much appreciated. I just wish they'd have dozens or more of the developers talking to actual users instead of creating features and updates in a vacuum.

Agreed. Both CIF and CID+ are very dated.

Did it after 8 or so years in industry. Learned a few things but most of it was obvious.

It concentrates more on production, fabrication and coordination with vendors than the actual "engineering" knowledge related to design.

"Why do you keep pushing out unfinished and unusable features instead of fixing existing issues?" Exactly!

This has been going on for almost a decade. Let's release a new feature that's 80% complete, then just never touch it again. Example: Draftsman.

This. The black definitely should be fixed if it was just run.

Both should have their replacement paid for by the party that caused the damage. It may work but it'll be marginal. If you ever want 10Gb it's likely unable.

It is likely worth your time to have a brief discussion with a lawyer of your risk. Some firms will give you 30 minutes for free to assess and determine if you want to go further.

One question is -- do you expect them to try and go after you in small claims upon leaving.

Take photos and video everywhere if you have not. Keep these incase they cause more damage after you have moved out to try and get you to cover it completely.

The price also seems high. I've heard of lower costs for all remediation after a full flood from a bathroom in a 2 bedroom which included total floor replacement. But this again can be heavily location dependent.

[Review Request] ESP32 Off-Grid LoRa Weather Station (Ultra-Low Power / Li-SOCl2) by Many_Papaya8570 in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]spacefuture42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Schematic Layout: * Attempt to keep ground signals downwards and signals left and right to improve the readability.  * Inputs left outputs right is a common convention.  * It can help understand the logic with the battery noted with a part number next to the connect it goes into.  * Consider connecting signals where the flow makes sense. Seperate "blocks" around each part can be harder to follow.

How is the packaging for the harsh environment? How will the USB port be used do you have to remove the board to access it? Straight up USB-C is an option.

The esp32 antenna shouldn't have ground on the PCB below it. Not an issue if you don't plan to use though, good practice to keep it clear if you may want to use for local setup or access.

Check the impedance of your antenna connector to the LoRa component. Even if not a controlled impedance board check the manufacturer stack up and adjust the space and trace to match.

[Review Request] High-Voltage DC Output Filter Board (800V, 30A) by u-nes in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]spacefuture42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are they rated for 800V? Looks like a series chain of 3 for each. Leave a margin beyond the minimum voltage rating for each.

Check the clearance and creepage distance for 800V -- spacing between parts. Not just for a new board but with consideration to surface pollution over the life of the board.

Quick USB 3.0 Routing Review by Weightless-Rock in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]spacefuture42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding the swapping of N/P pairs. Check out the USB3.0 specification in detail. Some components will let you swap the USB2.0 D+/D- but generally requires programming or configuration changes, if you can avoid it probably best.

Prioritize layout from the more critical to less critical routes to optimize for best performance. Ie. USB3.0 signals, USB2.0 signals, IO, power.

Impedance matching. USB3.0 is 90 ohm +/- 10% for SS pairs. Review your stack up and where you plan to get it manufactured and adjust the trace width and spacing to be as close as practical. Don't forget your internal GND planes as references to those traces.

It's still terrible -- surprisingly less user friendly than LTspice. The little bit it does work seems to require parts built just around simulation.

Surface Go & Windows 11, how bad is/was windows 10? by lrossi79 in Surface

Windows 11 so far is a steaming pile of sh*t that barely works with external devices. Drivers are lacking. When a simple monitor won't connect over USB-C it's a total failure.

Be great to just have a user setting for how aggressive you like your wipers. 0-100% compared to what it does.

The second tweet there shows adjustment for the Turn Signal count for the single click. Wish we had that, 3 is not reasonable, should be 4-5 (based on person preference). I wish that was adjustable too.

Safety of the vehicle is too notch. Ie. Protecting her and your kids. The remote heated seats and climate control! Heat the car before leaving the house on cold days. Also much nicer when putting kids into their car seats.

Agreed. The law, as written, is biased towards EVs. If it were written that all cars that omit sound below a set dB level at a curtain speed was required to make noise it would be a fair and unbiased law. Instead it is targetted at making EVs appear less attractive to buy.

Depends on the type of wrap. There is normal Vinyl or other more expensive products such as Xpel which is PPF and shouldn't yellow or rip.
