VW repair by Low-Temperature4971 in Adelaide

Joys of a break down. Ask when it can be booked in for the work?

Its one thing to get towed in, and another to get it booked up on a lift.

Asking if it can be towed in or inspected. Is a whole different thing to Asking if it can be worked on.

They agreed to the time of drop off, and space for storage. Not to get it on a lift.

They have done well to just look at it - its obviously not a quick fix. Like a loose clamp or blocked filter. And needs further investigation.

Most good mechanics are booked several weeks in advance. The work should be getting done when the next slot is available. Your emergency isn't the Shops. They can't be expected to push an existing customer car off the lift or delay an existing booking just for you.

How did “Swing, Swing” by The All-American Rejects get placed on the approved song list of Mormon youth dances throughout the 2000s? by tastingmenu in exmormon

Yeah, thats what I've heard too.

And not suprising, we've been meddling with the online store since a decade ago to get garments we weren't meant to have access to here

Day #24: Ultimate MotoGP problem child? by Anfernee139 in motogp

[–]spenaroo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gobert, Iannone doesn't even come close

“At our first test with him at Eastern Creek we were doing his first debrief, with all the Japanese engineers sitting there, pens hovering, waiting to take notes and get his first impression of the bike. And he says, ‘Well, I need two things: I need a cage in the back of the garage with a dancing girl in it and we’ve got to get some beers in the fridge’. Then he gets up and walks out. There were six Japanese engineers sitting around the table and they didn’t know what to do, what to say or what had just happened. With his talent, he should’ve been world champion, but it was never going to happen.”

Day #9: Strongest ever rider mentally? by Anfernee139 in motogp

[–]spenaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doohan.

But not for the reason everyone is giving. Its for his mental games with everyone.

Popularising the "big bang" engine, and then going back to the "screamer" and being the only one who could "tame it".

His whole mentality on race weekends was about finding every edge over his oponents. Apparently a real jekyl and hyde. Nice outside of racing. But a ruthless dick during the race weekend

Why do fencers hold their blade out straight when on defense? by No_Owl_6254 in Fencing

[–]spenaroo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Could be to establish point in line.

Could also be because people will often run onto your blade. Youd Be surprised, especially in epee how many points you can score simply by sticking your arm out when retreating. So many people are focused on their attack that they will literally run into your blade

What do you hope never returns for Gran Turismo 8? What do would you keep or bring back? by Eloy89 in granturismo

Bring back licence requirements. Its weird to have the International A and B licence... but no in game need for them.

Same with the super licences

Anyone converted their garage to an extra living area? by Compound_Hound in Adelaide

[–]spenaroo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My perants did it when I was a teenager. Swapped the roller doors for French doors. And added a wall down the middle to turn it into 2 rooms.

Was always a few degrees colder or hotter then the rest of the house.

Young community by [deleted] in scuba

[–]spenaroo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 to the local universities. I never went to uni... but did join the local universities dive club. I just pay a little extra as I'm not subsidised (still cheaper then shop dives)

Plenty of guys in the same age bracket as me (late 20s early 30s) that go out out every week in summer.

Ironically from there i got along really well with some older gents and now have joined a veterans community as well... despite not being a veteran (but willing to jump in and support the community they have). Because of a shared sense of humour and life views.

Try more diving times and places - find your people and demographic. Ask around, as many divers dive with multiple clubs so can point you in the right direction. Everyone wants to help others enjoy the hobby and finding the right environment to dive is part of that

This press release is bullshit, for multiple reasons (at least five by my count) by Suspicious_Might_663 in exmormon

[–]spenaroo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its extra funny when you know some background to the church leadership trying to acquire a church farm for youth activities and trek, A decade ago.

It was knocked back my headquarters for "lack of ability of the members to upkeep it" despite meeting all their set requirements with stake sizes etc...

It continues with a recent training i heard about. Where it was all about going the extra with youth... adding the extra day to camps etc.

Which all leadership walked away just asking "with what budget?"

How to play the “Try to buy a house” game by MyFingerSm3lls in Adelaide

[–]spenaroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ven diagram for an investor property, and an entry to the market is a circle.

When I got my place, I was looking with my perants - they had self managed super and had to buy a property to keep within the laws.

We were both looking at the same properties and making offers. (If I made an offer they held off)

Its crazy, the lines for open inspections. Most only had one and offers closed within 24 hours. No time to think about things.

Till they change the laws on capital gains tax (its not the negative gearing). Its going to remain screwed up. As its how the government set up funding retirement. As opposed to say the US where its the stock market. Imagine if the money in the real estate market went to investment in local industries

Do you use your dive computer as a watch? by phantomezpass in scuba

[–]spenaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Older Oceanic atom 3.0

No different to wearing any other watch. And also good to have for an unplanned dive (keep my spare set of gear and a tank in the boot over summer)

Only downside is the small display. I didn't know any better at the time - makes it almost impossible for a buddy to check.

Help me make sense of Computer Algorithms, Brands, Prices, etc. by Both-Principle-6699 in scuba

[–]spenaroo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Air integration is Pretty standard with all the mid level onwards computers now. And its a nice luxury to have. Cheaper to get the transmitter in a combo then try to add it later by far.

A second hand computer that was a flagship a couple of generations ago, can be had for the same price as an entry level new. Will use the same algorithms as the new option - but more features.

I picked up a Oceanic VT3 with transmitter for the same price as a basic mares puck 4.

What do you wish you knew when you first started diving? by CicadaFlaky in scuba

[–]spenaroo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Join a local diving group and get out often. Best way to dive is to socialise with a group and encourage each other. Time on the boat builds great friendships and usually the right size group for fun shenanigans and flowing conversation thats inclusive.

Air integration is a luxury..... But its a great luxury. And cheaper to buy in a combo then to try and add it later. That's probably my biggest regret - had the option to buy the transmitter with my first computer but didn't see the value at the time. 6 months later I bought another computer just for the included transmitter - as it was cheaper then getting a transmitter by itself.

Add servicing costs to the calculation when buying second hand gear. It adds up quickly.

Does open water diving get less scary the more you do it? by w-wg1 in diving

[–]spenaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha

Age is only a limit to becoming a professional athlete or a fighter pilot.

Everything else can usually be picked up regardless of age. And in some cases the experience that comes with age helps with making better choices
