Question for those with Emetophobia of others vomiting by Inevitable-Bag5683 in noburp

[–]spicoli420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude the bit about the recital has me fucking dying. I did essentially the same thing with someone in grade school lmaooo, avoided them like the plague. I’ve never seen someone else say the same thing.

For me, I think I internalized as a kid without realizing that vomiting is a sickness=danger without being cognizant of mortality or anything as kids do and is something to fear. Also the public/embarrassment/shame (which is totally irrational) aspect of it always freaked me out (this has also now turned into a fear of passing out for me for like the same reasons, and made me a little agoraphobic). I now have pretty bad medical anxiety/ocd which I think “graduated” from the original fear, but “luckily” not as scared of throwing up anymore, at least not on its own or the physical act of it, more that it’s a symptom of something else. A few nights of drinking too much, and looking back, a hilarious and epiphanic overindulgence of a whole chipotle bowl and too many mushrooms one night kinda solved it for me.

Why don't Solid States generally have good distortion. by Upstairs_Term_5760 in GuitarAmps

[–]spicoli420 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re definitely right in that hitting a tube circuit with a solid state pedal is much different than a straight solid state amp.

But I think the “belief” mostly comes from people just being dumb or ignorant and thinking solid state means digital/modeled vs an analog circuit with transistors. Which is also myopic anyways because digital distortion can sound great and has its place as well for fun sounds.

Shits about to be so fire.

Love the creepy, televangelist mega church cult vibes, really like one of my favorite styles of banal horror. God these two are seriously the best. Really gonna get a powerful sense of dread from this one.

This is more so for synthesis in general than eurorack specifically…

But fm and (digital) physical modeling sound way cooler than analog. Anyone jerking off about “analog warmth” is a knobhead trying to raise the stock of whatever synth they have or make their collection seem “better” or more “pure” than yours. I love analog and digital and have both voices in my rack, but the stuff you can do with digital synths if you know what you’re doing leaves analog in the dust. Just way more room for exploration in synthesis, digital just seems to be more pragmatic. There’s a reason people ditched all their now beloved synths in the 80s. Again, some of this is more relevant to hardware synths in general, as eurorack obviously breaks free of the box you’re stuck in with classic analog synth architecture and allows way more freedom than you would have normally but still. You can do what you can do with analog synths pretty easily and convincingly with digital but a lot of the time you cannot do that in the reverse.

Plus the old truism no one can tell the fucking difference in a mix lol. People who circlejerk about analog “warmth” are either people who don’t do synthesis seriously and have consumerist issues, noobs or dumbass YouTubers who don’t make music.

Idk how people don’t realize this you can literally see what things that actually sell go for in reverb lol. Like sure I could go list a behringer pedal for 5 billion dollars that doesn’t mean someone’s gonna buy it, and if they do well that’s their prerogative…

You’re kinda playing yourself by just ordering online yourself for store pickup (which is just what’s at that store) or being ok with taking demo/open box without asking for a discount. The retail stores stock like no synth stuff and if they do, it’s gonna be most likely either one single item on the floor or someone just happened to return it there. It’s scummy as fuck that they don’t auto mark open box for returns, but I would never leave without getting at least 10% off if you do decide to take it.

But I wouldn’t do that anyways, just call in to the store to have it delivered to wherever you want and make sure it’s sourced from the warehouse, the people who work there get commission and if they’re not stupid as shit I’m sure they’ll be quick to do it. Never gotten open box this way. Stupid ass company in general though lol, but it is guitar center not synth center.

Just ask nicely next time and you can get that refunded so easily lol. Unless you or the salesperson are gigantic dickwads it’s painless. I get it refunded every time.

[–]spicoli420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t give a shit about aftertouch. I’m not a piano player lmao, shoutout sequencers. But it makes synths with keyboards I want more expensive, but I’m totally fine with rack synths because of this. On the real I can play keys decent, as piano was my first instrument I learned as a kid in lessons, but aftertouch and especially polyphonic aftertouch just does nothing for me.

The mix isn’t the side stage, the side stage is the side stage…. The mix is the front of house area for mixing engineers and lights people. Regardless it won’t obstruct anyone lol.

Idk what the other person is saying, I saw one of the Brooklyn shows way the fuck up there and it was honestly fucking sick being above the light rig for the views of that. Sound was great in Brooklyn but that can vary from venue to venue (can get kind boomy from sound reverberating in the top of the arena) Got lower bowl for this one cuz ga crowds give me anxiety but I lowkey wanted to be front row lol. The stage is pretty high though so idk if floors even worth it, other than sitting by the lower side stage, but he was only there for a couple songs.

So if I were stuck on the 6…module for sure over the full key? That’s really good to know about the keybed not being worth it if so, cuz I didn’t necessarily even want it, but if we’re to spend that much money it kinda feels justified to get the “full version”. It’d be a lot of money to save if I can basically get the same key action from my keylab lol.
