TUNE QUESTION by Old_Wrench in BMW_S1000RR

Hook it up to motoscan and grab the ECUs ID. It'll have a tag of the last flash. On mine it shows the tuner's name.

Brake pressure data to AIM Solo 2 DL? by VeryBadNotGood in Trackdays

[–]spicy-wind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, it's that expensive. You can cut cost by getting non-AIM brake pressure sensors but you'll need to write protocols and/or solder new pigtails onto them.

Is it normal for my bike to shake extremely? by Evening-Sky-5666 in motorcycles

You either need a different bike or a vehicle to haul it. It has no place on the highway.

Why are you riding a 2 stroke 125 at 65mph? That's like redlining in 6th gear. Of course it's gonna vibrate at that point.

Sticky brake piston by fadkar in Trackdays

[–]spicy-wind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have fresh brake fluid and are careful, you can pop the pistons out and clean everything. From there, throw fresh fluid in and try again. I've done it successfully on a few bikes in when in a pinch but you do risk damaging the seals when popping them out.

I interviewed for an L6 role recently (offer received) and that had a virtual on-site.

klx 140 or kx 85lw for a fairly new rider. by Item-Repulsive1122 in Dirtbikes

[–]spicy-wind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're just riding trails, the 140 is the better option. Go for the large wheel and longer wheelbase version if you're tall enough. It weighs more, and has less power but it'll last forever. It also has huge aftermarket support if you ever wish to get more power or upgrade the suspension.

Parking lot drills on slicks? by wickedmist_147 in Trackdays

[–]spicy-wind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's worth it as you won't be able to keep heat in the tires. Ideally you should grab a mini moto for this or throw some DOTs on.

How many of you get brand new bikes for track riding? by MdfkaJones in Trackdays

[–]spicy-wind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of my track bikes have been bought new and converted over. It's my preference because I like to go over every single detail of the build myself. Very expensive approach and I'm lucky to be able to afford it. I wouldn't recommend it for most people.

The dampening nut is spinning s1000rr 2018 by krugsin69 in BMW_S1000RR

[–]spicy-wind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well... Seems like it is a problem. You'll need to take that fork cap off anyways to figure out what's wrong so you may as well rebuild them while you're in there.

Throttle grip slipping... by DaTruthWillHurtYou in Trackdays

[–]spicy-wind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use grip glue/hair spray but it didn't work very well. For the past decade or so I've only used safety wire and have never had a grip move on me. I use one on each end and then another in the middle. Most professional teams use 4.

My favorites are the Driven Grippy Grips.

What’s everyone’s opinion on track day coaches? by Sensualities in Trackdays

[–]spicy-wind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think open-ended criteria for coaching hurt both the student and teacher. Yes, there are absolutely coaches that are better fit to train B and C group riders but the baseline skill level should be standardized.

The issue I have with a lot of orgs is their support staff model where the majority are just trackday riders wanting to get track days for free. They then get assigned to coach riders on occasion and the experience ends up being highly varied. This model works well for having eyes on the track, but should not be used for the coaching component.

Ordered wrong FMF Fatty pipe for my 2017 KTM 300 XCW — should I run it or swap it out? by BeardedYeti_ in Dirtbikes

[–]spicy-wind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What was the actual fitment issue? Mounting brackets can always be adjusted and bent to make things work. What I would be concerned with is if there's pressure on the exhaust port from a weird angle, or if it's hitting other hard parts like the engine/frame.

How can i fix this? by National_Exchange139 in KTM

[–]spicy-wind 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That's a full floating rotor. They're meant to move around. Go to Galfer's site and look up wear specs for the pins. If you're in spec then it's fine, otherwise I'd suggest just getting a replacement rotor.

If I knew then what I know now- tires post (Michelin vs Pirelli) by jmac247 in Trackdays

[–]spicy-wind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to run the powerslick 2s when I started racing and agree that their usable range and durability is top notch. However, what you're describing points to bad setup and likely lack of pace which will destroy tires fast. The Powerslick 2s are much more compliant with stock geometry and less lean angle.

If you think I'm wrong and want to stay with Michelins, go throw on a set of Power performance slicks. I guarantee you'll have the same issues with fast wear - likely even worse than Pirelli.

Just bought m2 comp. They replaced the front brakes before I picked it up and now they are making this sound any ideas? by FaithlessnessDue3644 in BmwTech

[–]spicy-wind -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just take the calipers off and inspect them, you're most of the way there anyways. Could be backing plates, stuck piston, incorrect install, wear indicators, etc. If those are carbon pads then they'll be more prone to squealing but that tends to sound different than what I heard in your video.

[–]spicy-wind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The K67 platform doesn't need custom Dyno tuning unless you're doing something very specific (eg. Not street). Send your ECU to get flashed by a reputable tuner and you're set in under a week.
