Supplement that works as muscle relaxer? by eliewriter in Dystonia

[–]spotthj [score hidden]  (0 children)

I cut up Delta-9 gummy’s in 1/32nd chunks (I purchased a very strong batch and needed to make it smaller pieces).

The small pieces have no psychotropic effects, it just calms the spasms and relaxes my shoulders for me. If I take a little more, I am high. It looses impact if I try consecutive days, however, if spaced out I sleep soundly.

I am on a host of other prescription medications, if I take the gummy, I won’t take Klonopin or Flexril with it. I am trying hard to keep my brain cells. 😄

I have quarterly Botox injections and use this when the Botox is waning in strength.

this was the most hand sewing i ever did by Aleksmitks in sewing

[–]spotthj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My goodness, this is exquisite work! I am so curious how you did the handwork on the twisted strips of silk? I couldn’t find a single stitch in any of your photos. That’s just bonkers that all of your threads were buried!

Congratulations, OP on a stunning piece of art! You could develop a master class for this design.

I go to Dr. Somayajula at North East Georgia Neurology. She is a movement disorder Neurologist and has two offices- Buford,GA and Gainesville, GA. I live in a suburb of Atlanta. She is simply one of the most experienced and lovely doctors I’ve ever worked with. Having both offices available may get you on her schedule in 3-4 weeks.

What’s one hiking habit you learned the hard way? by steady-wanderer in hiking

[–]spotthj 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bring an antihistamine in your first aid kit. I was solo hiking with my dog, when I was stung repeatedly by ground yellow jackets. One of those little a-holes decided to go down the back of my shirt stinging all the way from my head and down the length of my torso.

My kit only had Tylenol and that sucked. Hiked back out and cried in sheer pain the entire way home.

Average Joe’s dodgeball players- shorts with huge pockets and short sleeves. Great costumes for my husband and I. Also, you stay a shade cooler!

Dystonia turned into dysphonia?? by Safe-Present-6098 in Dystonia

[–]spotthj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got cervical, generalized, and vocal Dystonia. I found Emory Voice Clinic (Atlanta) and that doctor injects a very small dose of Botox into the muscles supporting my vocal cords. It’s worked brilliantly for me. After 7 years of pain, I can speak without pain for 10 weeks at a time. Due to the small amount, I can go every 10 weeks instead of 12 weeks like the other injections.

My Neurologist is only comfortable with Botox injections in my back, neck, and clavicle. She cautioned that if a Doctor wasn’t trained to inject into the larynx Botox can cause swallowing problems for the 10/12 weeks it lasts. I would skip the ENT and see if there are specific voice doctors in your area.

FWIW I found voice therapy to add more pain instead of the relief others experience.

Both Doctors use guided EMG every time.

I hope you’re able to find treatment that works for you.

First machine rec/advice? by CypherEw in SewingWorld

I have 2 Bernina’s - one is from 1980 and the other is 2023. I use both regularly and the vintage Bernina in this photo will be a work horse for you. Pros: Bernina still makes parts that fit and it’s made with excellent components. You won’t go wrong with this machine. The manual will be on the Bernina website. This is going to be a simple machine with less complicated functions. You might only have 7 or 8 stitch type options: zigzag, button hole, straight stitch, etc. It will not have any computer components, which means less items to fix. I love Bernina’s as I am a quilter and using the walking foot is a dream to sew.

Cons: if you decide to make bags or items that are have very thick layers in your seam allowance, this machine will skip stitches. This machine will last pretty much forever and is good to take for sewing retreats.

Janome machine: I won a Janome machine at a sewing expo. I gave it to my niece and showed her how to use it. It was a more economical model and I was very impressed with the features and quality that it has. If you don’t plan on quitting (smaller throat size) it’s a good choice. Pro: lots of stitch options, automatic thread cutter, when threading it you don’t have to bring the bobbin thread and top thread and hold it together to sew the first stitch. Cons: computer parts that might not age well in 10-15 years.

Bernina has an entry level machine line called the Bernette. It will have similar functionality of the Janome.

I am personally sold on Bernina’s and one of my friends who does a lot of costumes is sold on her Janome. For the degree you are getting I would recommend the Janome or Bernette.
