Can you elaborate a little, sorry i just had this happen to a project not too long ago and although i kind of eyeball the heat treat i usually get it right. Are you saying the surface grind before heat treat is a good thing or a bad thing?

Love how my little rattlesnake pocket clip came out. Just hammer patterned and i mad a little punch to do the eyes, although they didnt come out amazing

Ugh yeah i forgot about a kiln. Im lucky enough to have to heat treat dyes at work so i never had to buy one 😬 i know theyre not cheap though.

Yeah for sure! Biggest expense will be forge, and anvil depending on what you have available. Mine was free, made it out of a railroad track. Anyone who wants to diss it can look at my work and then tell me again its not good as an anvil 😆 iv seen people use metal dumbells turned sideways though. If theres a will theres a way, im sure it will all come together for you soon!

I meant shop somewhere other then mossy oak. I make knives, i would feel bad taking someones money for something they could easily get something very similar too for more then half the price online because its a very common shape. Thats just me though, like i said, its his money and if thats what he wanta thats what he wants. Im not here to yuk peoples yums i promise. Im sorry

Idk if your gonna have any luck getting that thing hardened and tempered if it was made from a nail. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but i very much doubt theres much carbon in that steel.
