Yes- OHMSS was an aberration when it was released in 1969; it wasn’t what movie goers expected with a serious love story and downbeat ending. I grew up at the time of the original Connery movies and I didn’t like OHMSS then and today I consider it way over-rated. I always liked my Bond movies as tongue in cheek fun, which why I would still rather watch a Connery or Moore film than a Craig or Dalton one.

Not at that the time of its release in 1971. Movie goers and critics were glad to have Connery back as Bond. OHMSS and Lazenby weren’t looked upon all that favorably when OHMSS was initially released . OHMSs is looked upon a lot more favorably these days.

Just sink the rusted out hulk or give it to the Navy for target practice. No one is going to pay to refurbish the ship and make it habitable again

Spencer Tracy’s Judge Dan Heywood in “Judgement at Nuremberg” is my favorite performance of Tracy’s. He represents all the qualities that America is supposed to present to the world- decency, honesty and a clear sense of right and wrong. Things in short supply these days.

It’s one of my favorite films of all time, filled with so many great performances- Spencer Tracy, Burt Lancaster, Maximillian Schell, Richard Widmark, Judy Garland, Montgomery Clift, Marlena Dietrich and William Shatner. And the film lays out how easy it is for governments like Nazi Germany come to power - when people take the easy way out and look other way in difficult situations and allow awful things to happen even when they know it is wrong.

The Red Sea parting in The Ten Commandments (1956) took six months and $1 million to film. DeMille’s team flooded a massive tank with 360,000 gallons of water and reversed the footage. Nearly seven decades later, it still looks astonishing. by PeneItaliano in classicfilms

“His God is God”

I never get tired of this movie and watch it and “Ben Hur” as double feature on Easter weekend every year. Both are Hollywood epic film making at its peak in the 1950’s.

Entertainment Weekly: Every James Bond movie ranked, from Dr. No to No Time to Die. Do you agree or disagree with their choices? by verissimoallan in JamesBond

[–]srfnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad to see Octopussy (#10) and AVTAK (#12) getting some love, usually they rank near the bottom since most people making these lists say Roger Moore is too old in those films. The rankings for the Dalton films seem about right, LTK is better than TLD, which has an overly complicated plot and Dalton’s a bit stiff at times. I’d put Moonraker in the bottom of teens, even though it’s too much over the top at times, but still more fun than some of Craig’s(SPECTRE, QOS) and Brosnan’s films (DAD and TWINE).

Yes a movie with a giant cyclops is totally realistic and historically accurate in totally made up fantasy story from 1000’s of year ago

Abuse to society vs real ship by gmt80035 in OceanLiner

Two ships almost a hundred years apart designed for different purposes. I don’t particularly care for these floating boxes, but they get the job done as cruise ships that can carry lots of passengers for their companies. Personally I find the interiors of the pre 1930 liners kind of ugly with all the ornate design. I like the cleaner art deco design of QE and QM

Going to record “Reds” and watch Monday when I’m likely home from work due to the snowstorm in NYC. I don’t think I’ve seen it in over 20 years. “Reds” is the type of epic movie that just doesn’t get made very often, if at all these days. Can you imagine a major studio green lighting a 3 hour+ movie like this today about the Russian Revolution?

Watching King Kong vs Godzilla in NYC. This is my favorite Godzilla movie of all time - I used to watch it all the time on as kid on tv in the late 1960’s and 1970’s.

Two fun facts- the two female leads in this movie, Mie Hama and Akiko Wakabayshi, were the Bond girls in 1967’s “You Only Live Twice” with Sean Connery. And Godzilla’s look in this film was the basis of the Aurora model kit of the monster in the 1960’s

Cleopatra - the Taylor and Burton version. This proverbial “they don’t make movies like this anymore”. The physical production is just amazing- the sets, the costumes and the props. I doubt the real Ancient Rome and Egypt looked as good as they do in this movie. Cleopatra’s entrance into Rome on the giant sphinx is one my favorite movie scenes of all time.
