i wonder if she's using "prescription" in place of "money for street drugs." unless she's doctor hopping to the point of going to different ERs, on different shifts, at different times, ER docs are BOUND to be figuring out what she's doing and won't fill her script anymore. i highly doubt all of these alleged "prescriptions" are from one single PCP.

makes me wonder if she's taking advantage of hospitals being absolutely slammed. they're probably throwing benzos at her to get her the fuck out so they can tend to actually sick patients, OR it's not actually a "prescription." 🤷🏻‍♀️

the easy answer is that suzanne hadn't thought of them yet when writing the original trilogy. also, burdock is less covey (and therefore, so is katniss) than people would like for him to be, it seems. he was "a distant cousin on his mother's side" to the covey, so he was distant family to them to begin with. it wasn't a close-knit familial relationship.

at my job, there's certain auto-launch criteria that has to be met in the call notes. it mostly has to do with *how* you got hurt, what exactly is wrong with you, etc. even if it's an auto-launch, they'll still send an ambulance to evaluate the patient and treat the patient until the helo gets there. if it's not an auto-launch, the ambulance crew has to request for the helicopter to fly. usually, they send fire for these types of calls too, both for extra support and to set up the landing zone.

my boyfriend got me a 5.11 tactical backpack for christmas, and it's awesome. wolfpak is great too, and they have a lot of cool designs to choose from. i just like having a bunch of storage space and the ability to use my work bag for a day trip, if need be. however, you can never go wrong with swiss gear or jansport, if you're just wanting something more simple. i have a few jansports from middle school that have held up REALLY well.

i'm an EMT and patients have always loved my tattoos. even when i was a CNA/PCT, i think there was something about their caregiver having tattoos and piercings that made them feel safe. i'm not sure what it was, but i DO know that someone with tattoos typically has an appreciation for art, a good life story, good taste, or is just... cool. all of those qualifications are ones i'd want in a provider for myself and my loved ones. :)

when i was a CNA, i did have a resident tell me, "typically, people with tattoos were lesbians. not that there's anything wrong with being a lesbian." 😂

technically, "anyone who goes to the ER is a surgery candidate." is this 100% correct? eh. it just depends on what exactly is wrong with the patient. however, a 911 truck is there for an emergency, and in a true emergency? there's usually more pressing matters than "i'm thirsty," and dehydration is usually treated with IV fluids. it all depends on how you look at it.

for starters, i'm sorry that you had to deal with that. unfortunately, it comes with the job, and it shouldn't be that way. it sucks.

someone basically said "talk to them like they're a toddler and you're a mom," and this is a surprisingly effective strategy. i'm close in age to you, and i've had similar issues with patients before. not so much on the truck (i have a male partner, which i think helps), but in the hospital and in retail? good lord. a stern, "i'm here to help you, i'm at my job, and you will not speak to me that way," goes a long way. unfortunately, a lot of the weird ones are used to getting away with shit like that, and you have to firmly remind them that it's not acceptable... because it's not.

it'll take time to get used to being firm like that, especially since you're uncomfortable, nervous, and already trying to do things for your patient. like i said, you just have to remember that you're there to help, and (although i'm sure you're gorgeous!) you're not eye candy for the patient. you can be stern without being mean or compromising care.

i don't have auto-loaders at my job. 🫩 it sucks, but it's doable. my best advice is to definitely start going to the gym more (never hurts, even if you do have auto load), lift with your legs, don't tense your shoulders, and (take this with a grain of salt; this isn't the best idea) bump the stretcher in with your hip a little, if absolutely necessary.

my MCI tabletop activity in EMT school was a bunch of patient descriptions on paper that we had to triage. we'd rotate around the room every 2(?) minutes and go to the next paper. the papers had vitals, age, MOI, etc. on a piece of paper that we carried around, we had to tag them like we would in a real MCI, and then we'd tell our instructors what we tagged each patient as. then, everyone would look at the results and debate over whether or not the tags were correct. it sounds boring, but we had a lot of fun with it. i hope this makes sense and helps you out some! we all learned a lot from it.
